ANYWAY, on to Doom. First things first, download SLADE, it's in the OP. FOR EVERY SINGLE ZDOOM-RELATED MODDING NEEDS (Zandronum also included), Slade is what you need

You have Slade? Good, now, go to File > New, and then select WAD file. PK3, WAD, it doesn't matter, or at least, for what you want to do.

Now, inside the WAD file, create a new lump. "What's a lump?" A lump, generally speaking, is any file inside a WAD. Either go to Archive > New > Entry or click on the "E" icon in the toolbar

If it asks for a name, put "MAPINFO". Once the new lump is created, go to the right and you'll see a button which reads "Edit as text"; click on that and you're set to create your custom MAPINFO, provided that you already know how to edit one for Doom

I dunno, I'm in x64 Win7 too. Between BASSMIDI and VirtualMIDISynth, BASSMIDI has a weird rare bug where it starts a song and all of the instruments are piano (easily fixed by typing snd_reset into zdoom/Z& console), but VirtualMIDIsynth straight up crashes, freezes up my games, and runs like shit. So BASSMIDI it is, with the once-per-month minor inconvenience.

At least both are miles better than Timidity. That shit can't even handle half of the soundfonts out there and has some abstract installation and setup compared to the others.

Well that was fun, 3d graphics were nice, gameplay is your typical doom experience (only with melee weapons), and it has a interesting story and setting, something you rarely see in doom.
It's not without it's flaws, the gameplay is WAY to linear, leaving no space for the player to move around most of the times, this becomes a real problem with enemies that shoot projectiles.
Ranged weapons you have are really, really weak, or I was doing something wrong.
Bosses are MUCH easier than enemies, fuck, the environments were much easier than the bosses.
I would recommend this, but it really doesn't deserve a spot in the top 100 wads of all time, 7/10.

The short of it is that it executes a script that checks the cluster you're currently on; there's this monster spawner that replaces the desired monster, which checks the result of said script and then based on the result (or the absence of it) jumps to a state in which spawns a monster based on the Episode.

Say, you're in The Shores of Hell, and instead of getting the regular Imps, you get green-colored ones, because the script delivered a result of "2".

THAT, my friend, is something that I've been hoping to see it being possible to do with the modding tools that we currently have in this era.

Since the very moment that I could get this monster spawner done I've been wondering myself that very possibility. (I must mention that this script was finished thanks to the help from a bunch of people that practically did everything, since I have almost zero knowledge in ACS -but I KNEW it was possible to check for the current cluster, so that's why I asked if this monster randomizing idea was even possible to do-)

Just think about it! You wouldn't even need to check for episodes or whatever, if the monster spawner is near a marble texture, then the game will spawn either a green marble-colored demon or a red one.

But then again, I must ask first if it's even possible to do. About the spawner script itself, I shall post it properly tomorrow, it's almost 4AM and I'm too tired to write about this thing properly.

Customization is nice. There's a reason it has so many options in games like Quake, Serious Sam, Unreal Tournament and the like.

Zdoom's default crosshairs can get pretty small on bigger screens compared to other games. It basically started off because I wanted a bigger dot than that 3-pixel-wide thing on a 1680x1050 window.

Open it up in your fancy image editor; start a new layer. Airbrush some black shading towards the very left end so it helps look like the thigh area is curving inward/downward. Now set that layer to some filter or other--multiply or overlay or something similar. Mess with it and mess with the amount of fading until it looks good. Beautiful doom is pretty fantastic. It does change SOME stuff, pistol fire rate is a tad faster, same with punching. Double barrel can fire one barrel at at a time, and you can spin up the minimum to make it fire much faster. Aside from those few minor things it's pretty much all vanilla, and it's the only way I can play doom "vanilla". There's also ketchup, which adds all the blood and guts, and the person who meed realism did a mod that retains vanilla gameplay while adding a bunch of visual flair, but it felt really fucking rough around the edges.

If you want WADs that are as close to vanilla as possible, you'll have a hard time doing better than...the vanilla WADs. KDITD is still one of the best crafted, most intense experiences out there.

That said, there's always Doom The Way id Did It, plus the "lost episodes" of rejected maps that were recently put out. Any kind of "vanilla compatibility" megawad will likely offer you a similar weapon and level progression.

There are a lot of Doom maps that deserve remakes. E1M3, with all the hidden machinery and the exit to a secret level, E3M9 with the cyberdemon, every Detroit map in Doom 2 (MAP12, MAP13, MAP16, fuck, remake every single map from MAP12 to MAP20, I hated almost all of them), and MAP30.

Hey, /vr/dg I need help. I have been asked to setup an 8-player Doom LAN (no internet) for a very important event. I can do this in a few ways, but I think the easiest one would be to build a zip file of a Doom install with prdoom, or whatnot, and just copying this onto 8 Windows 7 PCs.

It is also possible that we put this together with 8 old-school CRT iMacs running Mac OS 9...

I never really got the logic that you only buy games to put cash directly into the developers pocket with your purchase. Finished Mooman for Samsara.
Currently stuck at the chances.

Mooman is a lucky class. Everything is generated by random. Damage of your projectiles/bullets, amount of ammo/health/armor you receive from pickups and even the unique item (syringe).

The left chart shows the current chances and what kind of effect they have. I was about to implement the right one, but I am afraid that he might be overpowered then.

What do you guys think?

They're alright. The third one felt like chex quests level 2 or 3 or whatever. Like it was just kinda hacked up into a new level.

The 2nd one had a shitty goop area to run through for a secret super shotgun, and I kinda hate that shit.

And there were technical errors around too. Pic related.

If it is it could be an attempt to make sure that no players miss that things that look like this are in fact interactable buttons. Yeah, the third one is indeed based on the layout of the warehouse level in Chex Quest; forgot to mention that. It was my favourite map from the game as a kid; wanted to beef it out a bit. Could probably use more dudes on UV.

You also, y'know, don't have to go through the nukeage. The radsuit is hidden in the level nearby for you to get if you're intending to get all secrets--and to ensure that you don't miss it, I put it in the same area as the very visible chainsaw secret. The player will, in theory, be trying to find the chainsaw secret, find it, but also get the radsuit on the way, and head down into the cavern as a result.

Thanks for the advice guys; I have a few more maps planned so these are kind of intended as "introductory" maps. That's why they're a bit on the easy and small side. I always hated when a megawad or even a single map would just start dropping in shit like Barons and Revenants right off the bat. Lead up to that shit, give it some progression. Even though we've all been through the games thousands of times, you can make things tense with just Zombiemen and the right amount of ammo.
