Alright, so I'm going off the General guide for recommended episodes, just finished seasons 3 and 4. What does it mean by "spoiler heavy"? Does it refer to Arino gaining, losing, and re-gaining chief status? It honestly doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me, but I suppose that's what qualifies as spoilers for a show like this Is that all there is to it?

That said, should I watch this is seasons, or go by individual episodes? Does the continuity matter that much? Any seasons to avoid/definitely watch?

They often mention the results of the previous challenges, either during Tamage ("Here's an arcade version of the game that Arino cleared back in 2006!") or when he plays a sequel to a game he challenged in the earlier episode. Mario, GNG and Ninja Gaiden are the worst in that aspect; each episode starts with a short recap of the results of previous titles. I was so pissed off when I watched SM64 and got the ending of World totally spoiled.

I don't really get why anyone wouldn't watch the show chronologically, though. If you're a big fan, you'll most likely end up watching every single episode you can find and watching them chronologically both spares you from spoilers and makes sure you don't accidentally miss any. Back then subbers did the episodes on completely random fashion so there were lots of gaps, but now the first 12 seasons are completely translated so the amount of things to watch isn't really an issue.

I suppose when people are new to the show, they tend to check out popular episodes or ones that feature games they personally like. After that, though, most will probably go one season at a time.

There's not much continuity, but sometimes there's mini "season" stories, like the beginning of Season 4 or the stuff that goes on in the segments, like the classic Ring-Ring-Tactics with Super Monkey Daibouken.

Just watched The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, haven't played the game in close to 25 years and still remembered all the music like it was yesterday. I think I'm going to give it a play through this weekend. I actually remember the game being kinda popular when it came out, or at least more popular than you would think it would be based on the license and developer, but I rented it a couple times and remember a bunch of my friends renting it too.

question to the japanese-speaking anons: have you watched the new episode already? Is it only me, or was it really mediocre? I think they picked a wrong game for Arino to play, even the bad ending parts were boring, and the ep wasn't even particulary comfy despite Arino playing a vn game.

It was definitely subpar. The previous adventure games have been either mystery or horror, but this one was just an adaptation of a gourmet manga.
The biggest laughs I had was when Arino emphasized the space in foie gras (フォア ・ グラ) every single time it was mentioned.

Like Kakaricho said, the first half was funny, especially the part where Arino is confronted by the cop for trying to peek into the bathhouse and inadvertently fights him when he thought he was choosing the talk command, gets a game over and loses an hour and a half of progress. But yeah, it got kinda boring for me and I actually dozed off a bit during the middle of the episode.

Like someone else said, it's like a Let's Play but done well. It's also edited in a way to give it lots of tension and good moments, and the cast and crew are all funny and likable. Really it's Arino and everyone else that make it worth watching; even a game I don't care about can be fun when they play it.
Also, the TameGe segments are almost hypnotic, the trips are amazingly fun, and some of the segments are funny.

Just watch it chronologically. The second season (ie. the first season with full-length challenges) is full of great games (Metroid, SMB3, Prince of Persia, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Mega Man 2 etc.). That way you'll also be able to follow the minisegments properly and not get spoiled when they recap previous challenges in some game series (ie. >>1372524).

The 1993 port of Wolfenstein 3D both looked and played better. Hell that at least ran at a stable 30fps as opposed to the 10fps SNES Doom barely handled.

Anything that requires re-loading an entire screen-full of data will run very poorly on 16-bit consoles. They aren't meant to replace all the pixel data every frame - you can push maybe 15 or 20fps into an SNES or Genesis video chip. That's not even rendering - just getting the finished data into VRAM. No amount of coprocessor help can fix this; this is why Sega originally wanted the 32x (so they had a way for external coprocs to overlay a new video signal).

Wolfenstein was rendered on the bare SNES while Doom uses the FX2 chip. That's a big difference.

And the difference in graphical complexity really isn't that big. Certainly not enough to justify needing an extra graphical accelerator while still running at a much lower framerate.

The NC episodes are just commercials for the eShop, really. They're not real challenges. Some are fun, namely the NES Remix one, but most are just "Watch Arino play this new eShop release on Wii U for 20 minutes".

As for the DVD challenges, they're not full episodes so I guess they're focused on those more as they've got about thirty to do.

That's not a proper challenge of Spelunker. That was just a snippet from the Quest of Ki live challenge, where after a few hours of playing with zero progress, they decided to say screw it and try playing Spelunker. After a bit of that they read the faxes telling Arino to go back to Ki and decided to do so. The way I see it, there's a good bit that's scripted, but it's only scripted so Arino can go off script, if that makes sense.

Most things that don't involve Arino directly are probably scripted (when the ADs interfere, all their gimmicks and that kind of stuff), and when the scripted stuff gets bounced off of Arino's natural comedic talent, that's where the magic happens.

I think that's story connected to Tsuruoka, who almost completely fucked up the Ki live challenge, but Arino's quick thinking saved the day. He was also the guy that made the diorama, but he stuck around for a season and was brought back once after leaving (during the Pilotwings special - the first one that is), so I'm not entirely sure whether he was liked or not. Though if there were two beside the mysterious first episode AD that were disliked, then Tsuruoka would be my bet for the second one - he was the least notable, probably.

It's the stage where you need to get Rick all the way to the end, you have to use many many walljumps to get there, and it is a little finicky. Only took me two tries, but remember this is Arino, anything involving finicky controls and timing of any sort will stone wall him. The feather duster is easy, all the flower ones are.

You can see ギザ giza on the screen, at least in the raw. They chose to change it. I guess they were trying to preserve the humor in Arino's name edits as well as possible. Most of the names just had him inserting uma (horse) somewhere. That definitely doesn't translate very well to English, so they made most of them puns instead.

The demo of "Game Center CX: Arino on 3rd Street" was released on the Nintendo Store in Japan today. I recently got a 3DS, so I gave it a try. (Disclaimer: I haven’t played the second game, just the first one)

In the menu there's Story Mode (playable), as well as Free Mode and Multi Play (locked in the demo). There's also a Famous Quotes List (which is locked in the demo), and when the staff say their famous lines (for example, Arino's "gamay obera" and Inoue's "A normal amount"), they get added to it. There's also a Strategy List, where hints on how to clear the challenges get stored (also locked in the demo)

The demo starts in Nostalgia town, at a candy store run by Watanabe who "keeps eating all the merchandise". Kan narrates, explaining you're a friend of Arino, who's lost his memory, been turned into a kid, and sent back in time (You and Arino break the fourth wall, being able to hear him). The aim is to find out why he was sent back, and see if you can return him to his own time.

Only one of the games is playable, "Roomy and the Magic Broom", and Inoue arrives (in a shirt saying 'Max') to explain how the challenges work. The demo only has two challenges, 'defeat an enemy', and 'defeat three enemies in a row'. After you clear the first challenge, Urakawa shows up and tells you how to defeat multiple enemies in a row, which gets added to your "Strategy List".

You can exit the candy store and go to the station, a book store (Arino sees if he can buy any comics ahead of the release date), Toujima Plastic Models where Toujima is (according to Arino) "an unreliable clerk", a shrine, a stationary store (where you can meet Inoue again), and your house, where (in the full version) you can play the games you've unlocked, as well as talk, look at strategy guides, etc.
