Alright, so I'm going off the General guide for recommended episodes, just finished seasons 3 and 4. What does it mean by "spoiler heavy"? Does it refer to Arino gaining, losing, and re-gaining chief status? It honestly doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me, but I suppose that's what qualifies as spoilers for a show like this Is that all there is to it?

That said, should I watch this is seasons, or go by individual episodes? Does the continuity matter that much? Any seasons to avoid/definitely watch?

>> No.1372440

>>1372427
They often mention the results of the previous challenges, either during Tamage ("Here's an arcade version of the game that Arino cleared back in 2006!") or when he plays a sequel to a game he challenged in the earlier episode. ("It's Mega Man 4. Let's see Arino's history with the series!"). I guess that's what the person who created that paste by heavy spoilers. Also, they actually stopped doing the ranking stuff back in Season 4.

>> No.1372524

>>1372427
Basically what >>1372440 said.
Mario, GNG and Ninja Gaiden are the worst in that aspect; each episode starts with a short recap of the results of previous titles. I was so pissed off when I watched SM64 and got the ending of World totally spoiled.

I don't really get why anyone wouldn't watch the show chronologically, though. If you're a big fan, you'll most likely end up watching every single episode you can find and watching them chronologically both spares you from spoilers and makes sure you don't accidentally miss any. Back then subbers did the episodes on completely random fashion so there were lots of gaps, but now the first 12 seasons are completely translated so the amount of things to watch isn't really an issue.

I suppose when people are new to the show, they tend to check out popular episodes or ones that feature games they personally like. After that, though, most will probably go one season at a time.

There's not much continuity, but sometimes there's mini "season" stories, like the beginning of Season 4 or the stuff that goes on in the segments, like the classic Ring-Ring-Tactics with Super Monkey Daibouken.

I loved that episode mostly because it was finally Nakayama's time to shine.

Like someone else said, it's like a Let's Play but done well. It's also edited in a way to give it lots of tension and good moments, and the cast and crew are all funny and likable. Also, the TameGe segments are almost hypnotic, the trips are amazingly fun, and some of the segments are funny.

Anything that requires re-loading an entire screen-full of data will run very poorly on 16-bit consoles. They aren't meant to replace all the pixel data every frame - you can push maybe 15 or 20fps into an SNES or Genesis video chip. That's not even rendering - just getting the finished data into VRAM. No amount of coprocessor help can fix this; this is why Sega originally wanted the 32x (so they had a way for external coprocs to overlay a new video signal).

That's not a proper challenge of Spelunker. That was just a snippet from the Quest of Ki live challenge, where after a few hours of playing with zero progress, they decided to say screw it and try playing Spelunker. After a bit of that they read the faxes telling Arino to go back to Ki and decided to do so. So a 20 minute snippet from a live show isn't really high on SA-GCCX's to-do list, especially when there's a real challenge of the game out now that has an actual conclusion.

There was one in the first season who was never on screen and only last an episode before he pissed Kan off, his name isn't known.

One of the ones who WAS on screen generally wasn't liked by the staff and then fucked up in a live show costing them a lot of time and effort. I want to say it was the one who made the diorama in his first appearance but I could be wrong.

>fucked up in a live show

I think that's story connected to Tsuruoka, who almost completely fucked up the Ki live challenge, but Arino's quick thinking saved the day. He was also the guy that made the diorama, but he stuck around for a season and was brought back once after leaving (during the Pilotwings special - the first one that is), so I'm not entirely sure whether he was liked or not. Though if there were two beside the mysterious first episode AD that were disliked, then Tsuruoka would be my bet for the second one - he was the least notable, probably.

You can see ギザ giza on the screen, at least in the raw. They chose to change it. I guess they were trying to preserve the humor in Arino's name edits as well as possible. The demo of "Game Center CX: Arino on 3rd Street" was released on the Nintendo Store in Japan today. I recently got a 3DS, so I gave it a try. (Disclaimer: I haven’t played the second game, just the first one)

In the menu there's Story Mode (playable), as well as Free Mode and Multi Play (locked in the demo). There's also a Famous Quotes List (which is locked in the demo), and when the staff say their famous lines (for example, Arino's "gamay obera" and Inoue's "A normal amount"), they get added to it. There's also a Strategy List, where hints on how to clear the challenges get stored (also locked in the demo)

The demo starts in Nostalgia town, at a candy store run by Watanabe who "keeps eating all the merchandise". Kan narrates, explaining you're a friend of Arino, who's lost his memory, been turned into a kid, and sent back in time (You and Arino break the fourth wall, being able to hear him). The aim is to find out why he was sent back, and see if you can return him to his own time.

Only one of the games is playable, "Roomy and the Magic Broom", and Inoue arrives (in a shirt saying 'Max') to explain how the challenges work. The demo only has two challenges, 'defeat an enemy', and 'defeat three enemies in a row'. After you clear the first challenge, Urakawa shows up and tells you how to defeat multiple enemies in a row, which gets added to your "Strategy List".

You can exit the candy store and go to the station, a book store (Arino sees if he can buy any comics ahead of the release date), Toujima Plastic Models where Toujima is (according to Arino) "an unreliable clerk", a shrine, a stationary store (where you can meet Inoue again), and your house, where (in the full version) you can play the games you've unlocked, as well as talk, look at strategy guides, etc.

All the gimmick segments weren't that impressive.

The one where they presented game deaths and choosed the one that would be the cruelst in real life was pointless.

Barcode was lame because both played a shitty RNG game.

Game and Watch was boring. Seriously, they may be classics but Game and Watch sucks ass.

The one where they decided on gameboy games that would be cool to remake in color was alright I guess.

The one with Tani, where Arino read fan letters was the best idea, but the execution sucked.

The one where they played Karuta with retro games was alright and pretty funny sometimes.

The one where they voice acted retro game scenes was a good idea but the woman with the old voice and arino's goofy voice didn't carry it well.

How often and how many times did you check /v/? Threads there die within hours at most. Did you check for archived threads? Do that or email the guy who makes the cards.

Yeah, sent my thing to arinocard@gmail. Hopefully there's enough interest to do it again this year.

Nah. Some of them may be a bit hit-or-miss for our non-Japanese sense of humour (though I've always wondered if they're knowingly crap and that's part of the joke), but they split the episode up nicely.

I like having the sections, it stops it being an hour of a man sat in a chair.

>> No.1415165

>>1413967
I liked almost all the sections they did. Especially when they show the games through the years in nearly every episode.

The one I didn't really care for was the one where Arino is 90 and have him look at fake games.

Yes, manga, DVDs, games, clothes, fishing poles, model gun, anything you can imagine. I love visiting them and can spend hours in one.

My copy finally came in, I'll post about in when I read some of it.

Is Kibe the nerdiest guy of the show?

He seems like the collector/retro game (and probably modern games) enthusiast.

While Arino is also a gamer I think he's more of a manga nerd.

>> No.1415409

>>1415406
They're all nerds, it's just a matter of degrees. Kibe's probably pretty normal.

It's funny the way he kept saying that after taking in the sights and local delicacies. He'd suddenly stop and go OH.

The best were The USA and the Paris ones. Northernmost Travelog was kinda shit, and Southernmost was alright. Haven't seen any more

Also what happened to Arino in S9? After the Sanic ep there was a message wishing him well

He was hospitalized with a lung abscess, it's mentioned in later episodes.

He fell off the screen and lost a life on the way to work. It was his last continue.

The ADs were called in to help farm lives so he could beat the deadly commute.

Eventually, Arino persevered, and got to work.

Japanese nerds use some gay wrestling video and mash it up to Kirby/beatmania/Touhou/Mario music. It's both hilarious and disturbing at the same time.
