Someone should make a realistic flamethrower. It'd shoot a stream of gravity-affected projectiles that can bounce slightly off of surfaces, and each projectile would spawn FlameSplatter (or something) actors. So I'm working on a mod for Zandronum, called Respectable Crash. Basically it changes the Crash bot's lines, to remove the sexist humor and make her dialogue more appropriate for an elite space Marine. Any suggestions? Here are a few of the updates lines I've come up with:

So I've checked brutal doom out and it's nowhere as bad as it's made out to be. Both you and monsters deal more damage, which leads to faster fights and more dangerous traps, which is often a welcome change of pace. The only objectively bad thing is the ridiculous 'fatality' animations when berserking, but they are few and far between to be a real pain.

I like the amount of effort that's been put into the mod, but the sound design is just fucking atrocious.

I've used the expression "firehose of jam" to describe any and all gore in the mod, it's seriously louder than the guns. Anytime something gets shot you hear that exaggerated SPLOSH SPLOSH SPLOSH noise, anytime there's a gib animation, it's sound overpowers everything else. It's louder than the rifles, and that's just asinine. And it's just the splash noises too, you never hear the thuds of bodyparts, the impacts of bones, tendons snapping, organs tearing, skin splitting.

He puts all the effort into the gore but he doesn't make sound real. And before anyone says anything, realgore was the wrong kind of effort, really really wrong.

Also, I just wish Mark wasn't such a tit, it for some reason makes me feel guilty about liking Sodom.

scroton here, I think tonight or tomorrow night imma work on a mini mod:

That plutonia server last night was fun, but I think for similar FINAL DESTINATION survival I'd like to make two mods to play along with it, one that doesn't change gameplay except for a minor thing and then one that does but not that much. Both would be intended for any such FINAL DESTINATION survival.

First mod:
--PK's Smooth weapon animations (improved version), but using the chaingun from fractal doom's animations and having the muzzle flashes reversed like in fractal doom (since it looks better imo)
--Marine weapon skins that have the vanilla weapons
--Alt deaths (no gibs or other actors spawned) for enemies that fit in with the vanilla deaths.
--Sprite offset fixes from that sprite fixing project
--PK's HD doom sounds
--Player bullets and projectiles pass through other players

Things I'm on the fence about:
--Possibly samsara's key script to give keys to all players when they're picked up
--Possibly item rotations or items replaced with voxels, not sure yet since it may make it harder to see items
--Possibly zombie skin variants, the ones that look different but aren't any different gameplay-wise
--Possibly shell and casings spawned from weapons

Second mod:
--Intended for use when items are not respawning, however will have extended respawn times if server ends up turning on item respawn (probably from default 0:30 to 2:00, though very open to thoughts on this)
--Items are broken into smaller items that total the same amount of whatever it is that the item gives, like the shells in the new version of space pirate and items in the zdoom version of fractal doom, use item radius to make things only respawn (if respawn is turned on) when all items are gone so you don't end up with a pile of 30 medikits.
--weapons dropped by enemies will give ammo to players that already have the weapon, but if the player already has the weapon they'll drop another weapon when they pick it up, which can only be picked up by players that don't have the weapon and will give full ammo to such players, might flash or give indication it's such a weapon, will disappear after a time so the map doesn't become cluttered with tons of weapons. Not sure yet if this will continue after the first player to not have a weapon.
-----For an example of the above, player 1 has a shotgun, shoots a sergeant, picks up the shotgun he dropped and gets 4 ammo, drops another version of the shotgun mentioned above, player 2 runs over it but has the shotgun already so nothing happens, player 3 runs over the shotgun and since he doesn't have it gets the shotgun and 8 ammo.
--since things like soul spheres will respawn if item respawn is on but not super respawn, since they don't count as a powerup, crank up their respawn rate to either something like 6:00 or possibly high enough that they effectively don't respawn like 90:00

I'm open to any suggestions for either of these, they're pretty much just intended for /vr/ usage. Posting here for feedback on ideas before I go ahead and make it. Making them because Plutonia last night was barrels of fun.

The real kicker is that this shit only happens on my laptop, which normally handles OGL Doom really well, while my desktop renders transparencies as opaque in OGL mode in any engine. Ugh.

Nah, WinTex is ancient. Try a combination of your favourite image editor and SLADE3, which can convert images to Doom sprite format.

Modern sourceports support PNGs as sprites too, but if you want to keep things working on chocolate doom or something, SLADE can convert that shit to work.

Acer 5742 laptop... I think I bought it in 2010 or 2011 or something. Yeah some mods don't run as well for it. For the most part it's totally fine, but on larger scale maps, like the big ones in DTS-T with hundreds of enemies, I can get really big FPS drops, especially when using something like Brutal Doom.

I intend to buy a better compy at some point though.

I've been replacing weapon/ammo spawns with random health/mana pickups and a few powerups. Someone in the last thread brought up chests being dropped sometimes too.

What if the chests contain sub-items that replace the secondary fire for the unpowered versions of the wand and sword? Crashed and burned within a year.

It required a special rimless 12-gauge shell to work, that only they were making. There was no incentive really for anyone to invest in a brand new shotgun, using ammo that's in very small supply, when every other 12-gauge on the market can use any regular old 12-gauge you can buy anywhere in the world.

Hell, if you want high-capacity shotguns, there's Saiga's, Vepr's, Kel-Tec's, hell, even those old Streetsweepers, if you didn't mind an absolute shit firearm (that was made an NFA item through lobbying).

There's always a risk with introducing brand new cartridges.

I mean, if you had both a regular 12-gauge load, and one of those rimless ones, you could compare them I guess, and see if you could modify them, but I'm not sure they even have the exact same dimensions.

Top bar is sword rage, it generates when you hold the unpowered sword, it's going to power some sub weapons too when I get them implemented.

Middle bar is power sword mana, hitting the reload key changes the sword into the powered sword, icons will pop up next to the meters when you have enough mana for attacks.

Bottom bar is red mana, used for the wand's alternate form when you hit reload and change into it, primary fire can also heal you when you shoot monsters with it.

So while I'm too tired to actually do anymore work, I'm still constantly brainstorming and mulling weapon ideas in my head.

My original idea for the spell you get when you pick up the (soon to be) shoulder bash was a cluster bomb weapon that scatters bombs all over.

What if instead I make a missile type weapon that behaves like those rad as fuck C missiles from Contra 3? The ones that blow up like 5 times before fading, the explosions would have a reasonably wide area of effect but low damage, it would be effective on crowds AND single monsters.

fuck yeah. I already got the shield subweapon's spell done too: You shoot out a wicked chakram that bounces all over the place and rips, you can completely wreck shit in closed in areas. It's awesome

After I redo the bash animation, add the cluster missile, I'll probably do the lance next, which will be one of the more basic subweapons: Just throw out a lance that behaves like a rocket with no explosion.

But the wand's gonna get a short range lightning blast that will completely wreck shit if you got the mana for it.

I also need to actually implement chests into the game so they can start dropping all of these subweapons, then start adding new HUD elements. I'm not looking forward to doing that part, HUD coding is a bitch.

What's odd is it fluctuates too, like it doesn't happen in any given area on the map, like it'll be fine one second, then get bad, and be fine a moment later, only for it to get bad again. There's only like... 20 enemies on the map too. I beat it a few moments ago, but I just thought it was bizarre, the first time I played DTS-T I never encountered that on that particular map, and that was playing with Brutal Doom.
