Can we have a thread about Game Boy (original, no color) games?

I'd love to get playing old unknown game boy games and be able to discuss them with people

The one thing I don't understand about Catrap is why they want to turn back. Being a cat demon sounds pretty bitchin.

I loved Donkey Kong on the old Gameboy. Lately i came across this little gem here. And i must say: It really got me. Give it a try if you haven't had yet the chance ... it only costs a couple of bugs.

If you haven't already OP, picture related is a great little game. It's an earlier 'metroidvania' made by the same people who later worked on SotN and the like.

Sadly all the turtles are extremely stiff and function essentially the same, but, it's still an extremely neat little game.

Yay for Pitman, Tetris, Dr. Mario, Klax, Volleyfire!

And a sort of disgruntled raised eyebrow for that weird dragon fighter game where it's a top down perspective in a big open world and you bump into monsters to kill them.

Even though there were only ever like nine games repeated about ten times each, I would always be amazed at the fact they had nine games on a single cartridge in the first place. Blew my mind.

I recently played Trip World. Has the cute style and good physics of Gimmick!, but much shorter and very little challenge. Feels like a children's game. Only the end boss rush is at all difficult.

First the two hamster kind of things. Jump to avoid getting hit at the start, then hit and run tactics.

Then the jumping creature. Seems like his movement is reactive to yours, so keep your movement controlled. I think there are three phases, jump+slide, diving+repeated slide, spear attacks. First two you want to kick him out of the air, attacking on the ground risks getting caught in the slide. Spear attack is easy, just jump on his head and bait him into attacking the wrong direction then kick him in the back.

Then if you start the end boss fight with 2 or more HP you can't lose. Tank the first hit and jump on top of him where he can't hit you. Then drop down, kick him, immediately jump back up, wait for his attack, repeat.

I dug out my old gameboy the other day, put batteries in and it wouldn't turn on. Anybody else get this with theirs?
Found it weird because I remember trying out Pokemon red on it about a year ago to see if it still worked and it did. For some reason I have a hard time believing that it's broken. It doesn't get much use and the batteries were new.

I remember playing this one weird japanese gameboy game on a flashcard once.

I don't remember much about it other than it was a japanese puzzle game of sort, and was really weird. I think the gameplay was of small sprites in a sort of maze.

Even with this vague description, does anyone know of weird japanese puzzle games on the gameboy?

I am going to guess that you were playing Puzzle Boy, which is about a little strawberry on legs in a maze of rotating/pushing blocks. It has an english version called Kwirk, but the Japanese version is found on many multicarts.

Or if it was about putting shapes into a maze, you may have been playing Puzzle Road, also known as Dadaelian Opus in English. They're often found together.

I have a thing for hovering in platformers, and the levels were really cool with all these spikes and moving platforms and pits that you had to make a perfect jump to get across.

The new levels on GQ2 for the GB were pretty cool, a shame that they didn't expand on those ideas (switches and slippery ice).
