Did you kept your old CRT TV or bought one for your retro gaming needs?

Or you actually tried an LCR/flatscreen like those over-priced retro-gaming stands in malls, which they all seem to only have Super Mario Bros. 3 to try, all pixelated.

>> No.1357856

I still have box tvs for regular use as I am probably one of the few who still has not gotten an HD TV of sort

Understandable, where I live, HDTVs are JUST starting to pic up, people still have CRTs, either old ones or flat-screen Sony ones from mid-90s.

I have one of those HD TVs, but because my old CRT broke and it the one I have now was a gift of sorts.

I still have a CRT, though, for the sake of retro.

>> No.1357895

Bought one. A sony Triton. My old TV I had used for forever gave up the ghost 2 years ago. The other crt TVs we had either did not have AV Ports or was a 19 incher. The Triton is 30 something, has enough Ports that, all my consoles get a dedicated video input without a separate switchbox and it was 30 dollars at the charity thrift store. Who could resist?

>> No.1357896

I bought a small goodwill CRT that I used for a while for retro stuff, but eventually got a PVM for $25 on craigslist

>> No.1357907

I still play retro games on my 32inch flat screen. Shameful I know...

I'll probably grab a CRT when I move out.

>> No.1357910

I use a computer screen for my retro gaming and television needs. I gave my CRT away a couple of years ago.

>> No.1357916

I am gonna go check out a CRT today actually, my friend said it was close to a 32 inch for about 10 bucks, so we'll see.

>> No.1357920

I have my PS2 hooked up to mine.

I also still use a CRT monitor, but it's a really good one, dat resolution and refresh rate for $8 at a thrift store.

I kept a good CRT but we dropped it and a little bit of the plastic case broke. But whatever, will never use it so I dumped into the cellar.

only retro consoles I WOULD hook up is my Dreamcast.

PS1 I emulate on PS3 and PSP
NES,SNES etc. on my Wii

FUck you , dont judge me.

OP here. I won't judge you, I also do NES and SNES, Genesis, etc. emulation on my Wii, even got a few "retro" controllers compatible for Wii (either via wiimote or NGC plugs) for the experience, for I don't have my SNES anymore, sadly, but the cartridges.

I know Wii emulators have the filter, but I really, REALLY love the feel of playing Super Castlevania IV with a SNES controller in front of that old-ass TV. Brings me back in time.

I've kept the same RCA XL-100 for like a decade I guess, I don't remember how long it's been or know when the thing was purchased or who purchased it

it's not a great TV (only has UHF/VHF two-post AV connections, for one thing) but I'm not one of those "ZSNES IS LITERALLY THE DEVIL" people and I'm fine with most displays, it does the job and I guess I'll hold onto it until either I get a lot more money or it breaks

OP here. Yep, I did, an old Sony Trillion screen. I also still have my NES with some cartridges, special mention to Zelda 2, whose box is still with me, although a bit wrecked. Not much, though.

Since many of my cartridges got bought used, even back then, my TMNT2 cartridge has a scratched label, sadly.

Also still got me my Famicom-to-SNES adapter thingy, and I have a Battle City cartridge. Not sure if clone or original, though.

I still have my 21 Inch CRT TV. Useful when kids come here during the holidays. They can play games retro mode.

>> No.1357970

I threw out the TV, but I've always kept a CRT monitor around because it still looks way better than my LCD monitor.

>> No.1357974

I keep CRTs around for light gun games. Most of my stuff is hooked up to my HDTV though. For the most part I don't mind the picture. However there are some games that are unplayable on an HDTV. Like Wing Commander for Sega CD. You can't read shit in your ship so using the radio to land is impossible unless you have all the menus memorized.

>> No.1358020

We still have all our old CRTs. We have at least 6, a couple still have knobs to change the channels. I'm looking to get a new one for me though because the one I have is getting close to dying and like 2% of remotes actually work with it.
We just got our first flat screen tv last week because my brother got an Ouya for Christmas and was unable to play it because it only has an hdmi cord.
We've had flat screen monitors for a few years now though.

Hmrm. Can it emulate retro games at least?

>> No.1358045

Yeah, and for what we've tried, which is admittedly not much, works really well.
It has a port of SNES9x and Retroarch (since Android based) most consoles are emulated up to PS1/N64. Haven't tried either N64 or PS1 yet, but hear they're not bad, especially PS1 since there was the emulator for the Xperia Play. It's nice because the guy who ported over many of the consoles has it compatible with Wiimotes which work well for some games, especially NES. Real fun for Super Mario Kart but not so much Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter II Turbo...

I wouldn't buy one personally, but he's really happy with it so I can't be upset about it. He's only 12 anyways.

Just FYI the PS1 emulator that runs best on the Play is the official Sony one that you can use PSXPeria to inject ISO's into. It's pretty much flawless on the games that it supports (quite a few, and you can even edit a config file per game to use software or hardware accelerated rendering which fixes compatibility with certain games like Alundra), but it doesn't work on non-playstation-certified devices. The unofficial emulators run much slower.

I have a 36" Toshiba CRT I use everyday. Its great. It has 4 composite inuputs, all plugged into retro systems (and a roku box.) Hell, it even has component in. Its on a swivel table, so I can turn it without having to move the TV.

I'll be keeping this for many more years, I just wish it werent so heavy.

For other SNES games, I'd use the Wii's Classic Controller.

Anyway, when you try the N64 emulator, tell us. That'd be the ONLY reason to me to buy an Ouya.

My first CRT bit the dust somewhere about 1992, so no.

However, I still have the CRT I used in high school, among others. I have never owned an LCD monitor.

Oh god are they heavy! I almost gave away my 40" Trinitron when I moved because even with 2 friends helping it's retarded heavy (like 300lbs!) and my new place is up two flights of stairs. I ended up having to hire movers so I kept it. Was hilarious watching these two 6'+ burly Russian dudes struggle to pack it up the stairs.

>> No.1358749

I have a big fat TV in my bedroom, but it has a flatscreen. Does that technically make it not a CRT? I don't know how this shit works.

>> No.1358905

I use an old Sharp 20''(from around 2005 I guess) with 3 composite in, currently have my SNES and Wii plugged.
