How did he never notice that you can shoot the arms of the Gum Monster (while spending up to ten minutes in single attempts with 17 attempts in all), and how did he actually win without figuring that out?

I really don't know if it's actually possible to win without shooting the arms, since it should always go like this:

The fact that I had a lot of problems with Prince Fleaswallow's stage in Parappa and Arino just clears it in one shot still hurts, especially since I consider myself a fairly rhythmic person and am pretty good at rhythm games. I blame emulation or a very rigid system.
