Is it just me or is this game just way too easy and boring? I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and I like the graphics, the music and all, but the gameplay just seems... lacking. I guess it was made with kids in mind first, right?

The multiplayer is where it's at.

Yeah, it's very easy. The first game was more difficult.

Whats the best way to play Jazz Jackrabbit? I think I played it on DOSbox once but it didnt work. I loved it as a kid.

>> No.1344623

I liked it.
The first game was almost too difficult, even on easy, and in the second they seem to have gone the other way.

Did you know Jazz was originally going to be purple?

First or second? First should run on Dosbox. Second... doesn't it run in win 7 under compatibility mode?

Was there ever even a more difficult jump in any other retro platformer?

JJ2 is a great childhood memory. Recently downloaded it for my macbook somehow, but the game always glitches up and I get stuck in a wall or something. don't forget to save

It was published separately for Mac.
I don't know if The Secret Files was, though.

I would say that this is one of my favorite games ever. The gameplay, graphics, and music are all quite nice!

in high school we were learning about local area networks.
I convinced my teacher to let us play this.

The water theme sounds like the flying theme from Watership Down mixed with the theme from Metroid.

Man, Epic really always has been on the forefront of cashing in on whatever the most possibly cliche thing. Whether it be dumb cartoon mascot platformers, FPS games, multiplayer FPS games, or brown and grey space marine shooters.

Unreal 1 was somehow great though.

>> No.1350502

Unreal would be better if it was a Jazz Jackrabbit game.

>> No.1351078

like Jazz Jackrabbit 3?

>> No.1351279

>>1351078
yes and no. Jazz 3 was just a 3D platformer shooter made in the Unreal Engine.
If Unreal was a Jazz Jackrabbit spinoff or sequel, Unreal Tournament would probably be a furry shooter, and Gears of War would at least be less dudebro gritty.

>> No.1351292

i fee like the jazz 2 lost some the graphics charm the first game had, but the gameplay was loads better.

I want to reboot this series one day.

I wonder if Epic has plans for Jazz's 20th anniversary.

If you want difficulty, fanmade episodes are where it's at.

Try this one for size:

By the way, if you want to improve your Jazz2 experience, there's an awesome fan patch/mod that adds tons of new features, improves the net code and adds a scripting language to the game:

I don't even need any compatibility mode in my Win7. It just runs. They even put a 48x48 icon in the executable back in 1998 so it still looks nice as a shortcut on the desktop.

Wow I didn't know there was still a Jazz 2 community. What version of 2 is the standard? I've got a version of the secret files episode that includes the full jazz 2 episodes, but I never knew if it was legit or not.

>> No.1351359

>>1351320
The Jazz2+ patch made both versions compatible. Nobody divides the player base into these anymore, the only difference is pretty much only that one has Lori in it and the other one doesn't (if someone plays as Lori in multiplayer then she's displayed for 1.23 players as Spaz IIRC)

Generally speaking, TSF is totally legit and considering the vanilla versions is in all ways superior to the basic release - more characters, more events, some bugfixes, handles larger files.

>>1351359
ahh ok. i was asking because i have 2 versions of the secret files. one thats just that episode, and another that has jazz 2 full.
thanks about jazz2+, i'll look into it.

>> No.1351418

That one was simply the result of a mapping error. Later versions corrected that part.

Try the first game on the turbo difficulty. My only complaint is the tiny screen.
