Very hard done. Want to kill myself. I am never playing this fucking game ever again as long as I live unless it's against real people.

I remember beating this a ton of times to see all the characters' endings, but I'm pretty sure I did it on very easy with lots of cheats because for some bizarre reason I only cared about the story.

Everybody who's ever done this knows the answer. No, it's not fucking worth it. You feel like you wasted your fucking time.

But it's closure - that aspect is worth it.

I'd also like to comment that while the game does get harder, MK II is extremely difficult to someone who isn't essentially making 90% of the right moves once you get to about the fifth opponent on the ladder, so it's honestly not something that someone who can beat the game on Normal can't do with a little practice. This game actually has the most deceptive use of difficulty settings ever, along with the Super Star Wars games. Instead of like 2/10, 5/10, 8/10 sort of a difficulty like other games have when you go from option to option, it's more like 8/10, 8.5/10, 9/10, 9.5/10, 10/10.

If that made sense.

And what do you think about the story now that it only covers MK1-3?

>> No.1330253

>>1330234

There's a noticeable jump in difficulty on the 8th opponent on some SNES versions. At that point, the difficulty setting doesn't really matter all that much - the CPU will block 90% of your moves, throw you relentlessly, and walk towards you constantly like grim death itself.

Was Mortal Kombat a good fighting game for the time period? I bought it for the super nintendo at a yard sale recently and I can't really figure out if I like the game or not.

On one hand it's pretty challenging but on the other hand the challenging aspects seem like bullshit. I noticed enemies can throw you before you even come out of your recovery animation. The only way I've been able to consistently win on normal is by abusing the fuck out of sweeps, jump kicks and punches.

What's the general consensus here? Was the game just designed to eat up your quarters or am I casual?

Yes, it definitely was. And don't judge it based on single player; SF2 has its own share of bullshit as far as that's concerned (the CPU perfectly countering whatever you do).

Art of Fighting 2. Hardest AI I've ever encountered in any fighting game, MK 2 is a walk in the park compared to it. 9 out of 10 times I can't get past the first opponent on level 1 setting.

The computer has a very stupid reaction to jumping if you do it at a certain distance in all these 2D MK games. It had it in the arcade and it has it in the home versions so if you learn how to space your jumps correctly you can stomp its shit right in.

In the hardest difficulty levels it can be much more relentless with its rushdown but I find Kung Lao to be really good at controlling all the areas where the computer is stupid.

MK2 was great to play with friends, simply because of the finishes. I never really got into the 1P mode though, it's ridiculously hard and I never found a way to win in a satisfying way, since the special moves are almost useless.

Don't eat my head off. I admit that fighting games were never really my thing so I can't really give an informed opinion on the matter but dammit, MKII is a damn good, balanced fighter as far as I can see.

Heck no. MK is all about style and fatalities and shit, it's always been a mess mechanically.

As far as fighting games eating quarters, it's absolutely true. The AI reads the shit out of your inputs, with the only surefire way to win being to memorize how to exploit each enemy's AI. However, even today in the age of straight-to-console fighting games, the last boss is always a complete cheating bastard. It's just a tradition at this point.

>So UMK3 is easier right? I can cheese my way through the whole game as Noob.

UMK3 gives you the ability to chain combos from a jumping punch. Pretty useful. It took out a lot of the backgrounds though, and the new ones were mostly crap except for Scorpions lair (where you can't fucking use uppercuts).

Also in UMK3 and probably vanilla MK3 too, there is an AI bug, if you jump back and do a kick in the air, the AI will ALWAYS respond with a fireball. Any character with a teleport can own the game from that point forward, but it works the best with robo Smoke - teleport uppercut, jump kick, air throw combo nets you 40% damage.
