You play it more for the feeling of adventure. The gameplay is shallow and the story ridiculously moreso. The lore is significantly deeper than both surprisingly which is why it works so well as an adventure game.

The problem with the Legend of Zelda is Zelda.
If the game were just Link having adventures better stories could be possible (after all Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask have no Zelda, and are some of the best Zelda games)

You can make many diffferent movies about the Titanic, but at the end there will always be a ship that sinks.
Having to shoehorn Zelda in the story Mulan strong woman who can fight character is always sad.

Not really. A link to the past and OoT are also some of the best Zeldas and they have Zeldas in them.

Link's Awawakening had the best story so far, i agree most zelda games the story is very predictable and pretty standard because it basically follows the same structure in most games, gameplay and setting is solid and fun, though it could be better with a few more high fantasy elements/visuals like in pic related

Not really ,you're forgetting that aonuma directed both Link's awakening and Majora's mask. That's why they were better.

During the first hours of playing Zelda all those years ago when my brother's friend had the only Nintendo 64 that ever existed in my life, Zelda definitely was an awesome game.

Not because I understood the story all too well, but it was incredibly atmospheric, imaginative, and amazingly fun to play within its world. The ways you could control Link to fight with all sorts of weapons, look at people and their environments and explore all those different nooks and crannies was freaking ambrosia to a kid like me.
