Which is the better Star Wars Pinball table?

God damn, I haven't played an actual pinball in months. Fucking rural Bavaria, and fucking lazy-ass ops that don't give a shit.

My dad's been trying to arrange buying a Mr. And Mrs. Pac-Man, but apparently the MPU is fried and it needs to get to a specialist first. It's going to be great once we get our hands on that one.

As for the Star Wars games, I preferred the Pin2K one out of the three, mostly because the other two just blended together for me. I mean, it's '92 Data East (where they were still getting into the swing of things as far as DMD pins go and pushed out some fairly generic stuff as opposed to '94 Data East which hit some real home runs) and Sega Pinball (which was also fairly notable for producing a slew of games that could best be summed up with "functional but mediocre" apart from the rare good one like Frankenstein, a motif that would be continued with Stern, but then again, the three teams of DE, Sega and Stern were directly created from each other, so maybe they're just consistent), at least Pin2K was new and interesting, even if it died way too early.

Recently, I've been trying to scratch my itch with The Pinball Arcade, and while some of the recreations are lacking and the price is rather high, at least the Champion Pub recreation is great fun. Looking forward to seeing Who Dunnit from them.

This is one of the coolest tables I've ever seen/played on. The backglass has flippers, which I've never seen. Pretty neat.

>> No.1299152

Pinball has never really clicked in my head. I mean, sure, keep the ball in play as long as possible, try to score a lot of points, but then there are all these machines with the little screen and it's always alluding to these cryptic goals the game wants you to achieve and none of it makes any sense.

How do I into pinball, /vr/?

>> No.1299170

Look closely at the bottom right, there's a flipper. It seems there's a clear plastic track leading from that to the hoop on the left, my guess is that you get to shoot a basket when you perform certain actions.

Shoot for the flashy thing.

But seriously, more modern machines have objectives you need to do in order to score big points, in addition to other little sideshows (loops, ramps etc.) which may or may not be helpful with getting stuff like multiballs

I got into pinball with the Pro Pinball series of games. You don't need to waste tons of quarters to get to know the table and the graphics and physics are top notch. Also, the announcers are pretty informative and the light and DMD instructions guide you well.

And let me guess: The operator is the kind of person who not only refuses to have it fixed, but would also rather see it sit and rot than sell it to someone who would actually take care of it?

>> No.1301594

There's a vintage pinball arcade near my house, but they're all electromechanicals. I'm not knocking EM, it's still fun, but I love the "overdesign" of the (especially later) digital era, with all the crazy shit going on.

Theater of Magic is my favorite machine of all time.

>> No.1301647

>>1301546
It's either that or there's nobody nearby who can fix it. One of the slots has been keen to getting stuck and the DMD has trouble displaying everything. The owner's other machines/cabinets are alright; the only problems I've found is that the trolls won't come up for the Medieval Madness machine and the Neo Geo cabinet is a little wobbly. Thing have been like this since the last 6 months in the least, so I have a feeling the issues are not going to get fixed.

News to me. Doesn't really affect me all that much, though, since my local arcade already has a copy of the original.
Still, it's nice to see reproductions being made. I wonder if they'll remake any other classic tables?

>Expected Price: $7995
See, I still can't wrap my head around how this industry works.
At $0.75 a play, it'd take over eleven thousand games on that machine just to break even. And it'd probably end up requiring maintenance or some replacement parts before you even get to that point. How do the operators make a profit?

>> No.1309792

It costs more to make pinball machines these days (Medieval Madness was $3k back in '97) and more people played them back in the day.

Most of the people who buy pinball machines use them in the home on Free Play nowadays anyway

Oh wow, I didn't even realize.

All the machines at that place used to be at an arcade in Nags Head next to where windmill point was, owned by the same person, and when the lady who owned it closed the arcade, she stored all the machines truck trailers somewhere in Grandy.

She died a few years ago, and I had just assumed the machines would disappear. Feels great to see them back in such good condition, and some new tables too.

Anyone know any deals on Pinball Arcade? Bit disappointing the Steam version only has full packs when all I want is White Water.

Also, I know some of the Pinball FX/Zen Pinball tables are mechanical remakes of existing tables. Do either of the Star Wars tables in the OP match any of the tables in the game?
