I only have some multi-carts, 64in1 is pretty cool as it actually has ~55 different games in it and only few repeats, plus smb1 with smb2j graphics, though most of them are early famicom games, some are obscure as fuck, like for example nuts and milk.

420in1 is kinda bad but it has contra in it and repeats of it has 30lives code from start, ones that has different guns permanently, mix of those and starts at different levels, other are generic shit you always find in multicarts.

I'm usually known as RockmanPeru almost everywhere, so you may have heard that name before. The last time I used that trip was when I was viraling the Smash Bros. Brawl: Minus MUGEN project, which I sadly abandoned because I have no time to work on it.

But enough of that, back on topic. My only genuine NES experience was a "Family" that had a pre-built 115-in-1 cartridge. It was practially my very first console ever.

I'm so glad of having found the ROM years later, and I now play it whenever I'm bored on my Wii or my PSP.

I used to have physical copies of the unlicensed Felix the cat, some 4 in 1s, classic 99999999 in 1 and Tom and Jerry 3 on nes. The rests were actual games on pirate carts. Also my nes was a faux laptop with keyboard and the screen was just plastic with a small screen that takes up 1/20 of the screen and plays those handheld electronic colorless tetris games and runs on 3 double a batteries. Also came with a gray cartridge with 31 games (half typing ones, the other half random games like smb, macross and duckhunt). Surprisingly it was a pretty decent pirate cart with no repeats. Heh, yeah, allow me to explain for those unaware of this day and what this means for this thread

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphany_%28holiday%29#Spain_and_Latin_America

In most latin-american countries (if not all of 'em), it is common to take Epiphany's Eve with much importance as Christmas Eve, or at least, in terms of gift giving. Most people skip Christmas as the day of giving gifts to their children and go all the way to January 6th to do so. In this case, the Three Wise Men replace Santa Claus, and during the whole day prior to Epiphany, parents start looking for the stuff that their kids asked for.

Now, mix these factors with the fact that we're talking about latin-american countries that often have stuff such as flea markets. EVERY SINGLE flea market place you know about gets packed to the maximum fuck with this kind of stuff (bootleg stuff) and there's a high % chance you can get to acquire bootleg games. Last year I was about to buy that one bootleg XBox console you guys sometimes go crazy about (the PX-3600, pic related) to my nephews, but I ended up buying another bootleg console instead.

So yeah, for those who love bootleg games, be sure to put a mark to this date from now on. Americans have it easier than most of any other people because of their proximity to Mexico (this thing gets truly packed of a lot of shit for today, mind you)

>> No.1317737

Wow back in the day when I was kid I had NOTHING but bootleg carts and console. The reason is in my country it was either impossible or too expensive to get an actual not bootleg console or cartridge. Heck the actual legit consoles we had in my country available were the SEGA consoles (Genesis and Master System) and only later the Playstation. The only Arcade in my town actually used no arcade machines but genesis consoles, I grew up in a really bizarre place. We actually did not had the Nintendo stuff here, it is really weird. The only NES you could find here was the uncountable number of different bootleg ones. I had one that looked like a Genesis which was the easiest to find and after that broke I had one that looked like a keyboard and actually also was a functioning keyboard, it had a few built in games that used it.
For games I had half were actual real games in bootleg cartridge that had all the glorious ridiculous cartridge art. Many of those were actually Japanese Famicom games, though it's not like I understood English that well at that time either so it did not really matter. The other half were all pirates and hacks.
I had a really massive number of games, I was buying them like candy. Hard to recall exactly everything I had. I know I had the Super Sonic Bros and Super Mario World 9 hacks and for pirates I had such things as Sonic 3D Blast 5 and Tom & Jerry 3.
Sad story is I don't have anything anymore because my mother sold all the stuff one day to some random kid. It feels so bad whenever I remember, I wish I stopped her from doing it. I really wish I still have them, it is difficult to find them nowadays. Man... I did not even get anything from the money even though I bought all the games from my own money!

This thing, a console you hold in your hands that plugs into the TV, I remember from the mid-late 90s. It plays Atari 2600 games.

This company which distributed the console in the UK, Systema, which I gather is a British one, also sold handheld LCD games. Some of these were branded with things like Doctor Who and the Daleks, Lemmings, WCW, and given they distributed the TV Boy I'm not sure they had agreement to do this.

I remember the TV Boy from the Argos catalogue- it was sold at a major high-street retailer. Another pirate console that got sold in chain stores, and also got TV exposure was the Scorpion, a Mega Drive hardware clone (possibly manufactured in the UK?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_0g8zHhzd8

You can play games from all regions and switch between PAL/NTSC, but games play at different speeds.

>Another pirate console that got sold in chain stores, and also got TV exposure was the Scorpion, a Mega Drive hardware clone (possibly manufactured in the UK?)

It's definitely a Taiwanese clone, there's no way it was "made by a British company" - Bad Influence were not good at getting their facts right. I suspect this console was pulled from the market pretty quickly.

The TV Boy was not very legitimate either (the games were all pirated hacks), but since it was far from current and patents had probably expired it seemed to have fell under the radar as I do recall Argos (a large legit retailer) sold it for quite some time.

Systema's LCD games do seem more legit. It would be very hard to get away with such blatant copyright infringement in the UK.

Names were changed and copyright notices were removed from the TV Boy games to obfuscate things - if it was brandished with names like Pac-Man or Pitfall or whatever then they would have been much more likely to get in trouble.

Entire teams. The reason why so many of them were poorly made can be owed to the fact that they had very little documentation on how the NES worked. Everything they knew they learned by taking apart games and looking at their code. There's even Chinese NES development docs nowadays, but they're still very poorly made.

I wonder if I could take a sweatshop of Chinese programmers and have them design a good game.

Man, I know I'm never gonna be able to find this again, but...

When I was young, my grandma got me some cheap LCD game from the drug store. The title was just "Arcade Fighter", but the presentation was kind of interesting. It had its own little tiny arcade stick, and six buttons. Had the generic built-in beeper speaker, but this one could actually play music. This thing had one of those block matrix displays on them, like a Tomogatchi, rather than the LCD "stills" you're used to seeing on Tiger handhelds and the like.

What was by far the most impressive, however, was that the game itself was a fairly accurate re-creation of Street Fighter II, just with REALLY low res stick sprites. A couple of details were recognizable, such as E. Honda being huge and Chun-Li's hairbuns. However, when you got to the character selection screen, it had low-res versions of the portraits from the arcade version, and you could actually play as several of the characters.

The port wasn't complete, and I think the joystick was too shitty to actually recognize any advanced inputs (no quarter circles, etc.), but I have to hand it to them for trying. It was a step above the traditional knockoff hardware.

I have a "Victor" which looks the same as that and it is utter shit. Controllers are godawful with really short cables, lightgun has unusably short cable (not even sure if ever worked), build quality is terrible, it stinks of diesel and the audio quality is also poor.

Actually, after finding a picture (mine is far away) there are numerous differences. Maybe this "Victor" is a knock-off of a knock-off?

That picture is very deceptive. The thing is no where near the size of a FC controller. It's a good 1.5" wider and 3-4 times thicker. When you see it in person it looks funny not cool. And when you hold it it feels so cheap. Feels like it's going to fall apart in your hands. And a few weeks later it does.

Get a GB Micro with the FC controller face plate and run an emulator if you don't want total shit.

Famiclones? In my US Thrift Store in Washington?
More likely than you think.

I also found a Power Play Super Joy III a while back in the same store, but this one is a lot better. Its just labeled "Power-Joy", though. No other markings.

It takes 4 AAA batteries and yes, the cartridge is a 60-pin Famicom cartridge. Its an 84-in-1 cart, that as far as I have seen so far, actually has that amount of games! Or at least close to it. The majority are correctly labeled, and in alphabetical order descending, strangely enough. A couple are pirate originals such as "Fire Dragon" (snake clone) and Aladdin III (relabeled Magic Carpet).

Cart goes on the underside. Unlike the Super Joy III, the analogue stick actually works. And strangely enough, feels pretty good. Honestly, better than most N64 joysticks. Namcos Star Luster, on the cart, feels pretty good flying around with it. A lot of Japanese games, even if they had export versions. Makes sense, considering its a Famicom clone. A couple games I have yet to identify.
Like the Super Joy III, there is a DB-9 port on the bottom. For either a 2nd-player controller or joystick.

I'm sure there are a few idiosyncrasies concerning the accuracy of the NES (not emulation, what would you call it? Reproduction?) But I haven't noticed in the games I've played so far. Still looking through it. No Super Mario games, thank god. They're terrible on pirate carts. Often simply crashing.

Also, when you turn it on without a cartridge in it, it has its own ROM on board that has 6 built in pirate games. Anyone care for more shots or info?

I think it got quite popular because of the horrid translation that is just completely out-of-place.

All that said. I still need that cart. My NES will run it without issue (as I have disabled my 10NES long since and I keep my pins clean and unbent. My "toaster" NES is actually more-reliable than most Toploaders)

If by chance this poster is still here, can you give any more info about this cart? Although I don't have a NES or Famicom moment I'd love to have the Japanese SMB2 on a cart. The original game was for the disk system add on as you probably know.

>> No.1373502

I've always wanted to collect carts like this but I don't have any cartridge based systems. What I'd really love is one of those multi-slot clones like the Retron systems that was actually compatible with games like this. Is this unrealistic? Because those things have limited compatibility with retail games as it is.

My retron plays all the unofficial carts I have but that's because they're all shitty multicarts with shitty games I only play a few minutes for a laugh. I wouldn't count on it for serious play.

>> No.1373539

>>1373520
Well the majority of these games, at least the ones that aren't just graphic hacks of official games, are complete crap so it would be for the novelty anyway. I think a lot of the multicarts are newer than the really strange single game cart oddities might not be as compatible.

Just curious but have you tried any flash carts or fan made reproductions on your Retron? Those are pretty much the only other carts I'd get if I had a way to play them.

I have over 200 famicom pirate carts. I had around 100 Mega Drive pirate carts too(they were more common in my South-Eastern European country then original carts), but i sold them all recently. Most are normal games, i don't care much for pirate originals because i collect just to play.

>What did you play when you were younger?
On Famiclone? Mostly regular Famicom/NES games, like SMB 1, Dr. Mario, Battle City, Contra, Contra Super C, Guerilla War/Cuba, Kung-Fu Master, Duck Tales 1 and 2, Chip and Dale 1 and 2, Darkwing Duck, Tiny Toon, Adventure Island 1,2,3, Jungle Book, Captain America, Prince of Persia, Flinstones 1 and 2, Taito Basketball, Nintendo World Cup Soccer, Gun-Nac, TMNT 2, TMNT Tournament Fighters, 3 Eyes Boy... but the game i wanted to play the most on my famiclone when i was a kid is SMB3 i saw in Wizard. I kept buying carts with Mario on the label, hoping i will find it, but sadly all i ever got were stupid romhacks like Pizza Mario, Samurai Mario...
Ithink that i couldnt find it because SMB3 uses some special chips, and the pirates couldn't reproduce them at that time, but im sure because i remember my neighbour had Crysis Force and that game also used a special chip.
Now i have SMB3 in my collection, but i think the cart is not so old.

Out of pirate originals i remember playing and beating Aladdin, which was pretty good, Lion King that was ok, Street Fighter 2 port that was mediocre, and horrible Mortal Kombat games.

This was the most famous clone in my country. They are pretty cheap, I can still remember the smell of the burning AC adapters. I had an older/better clone in the shape of the actual Famicom. Now i use a last Micro Genius model. It is a high quality hardware clone(it was even bundled with one wireless controller), not a NOAC like 99.9999% of all the other clones out there. Games work pretty good, apart from the sound that is not so accurate.

Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

Emailed.

But honestly, the point is to have a unique NES Mortal Kombat 2 cart.

To the end I am also building one for Mortal Kombat 1 (I'm working on a ROM hack of the Mortal Kombat "III" built on the same codebase as MK2S) And I've found a "UMK3" that plays pretty decently.

But, really. I don't throw away my Famicom cart cases when I do transplants. Sometimes I decide I like them better as Famicom carts. Sometimes I have no choice, like my 254-in-one had the CHR A17 pin burned off. So I slapped it into a Gyromite cart and jumped A17 from the CHR-RAM to the NES-JOINT-01. Pic related.

At the end of the day, I could play games equally on my NES (Toasters for life, FUCK those cheap-shit Toploaders) or my Twin Famicom. It just comes down, to me, to what console I feel like playing on.

One thing I'd actually would love is for someone to actually make a SNES cart for the translated versions of SMT1/2.

It'd be expensive, but I'd love to do it for the sake of collection.

Its DJ Boy. A romhack of Roller Games. The name was changed to DJ Boy for some unknown reason. Maybe that arcade game was popular in China.

I live in PAL territory and my only 60Hz famiclone died. Those are impossible to find here, and i don't like playing in 50Hz on clones that are common in my region so i don't play my games. I don't feel like ordering another NTSC famiclone online anyway. Now i want to get a real Famicom, but its expensive with shipping and customs, so it will be a while before i really get to play anything from my collection again.

Chilean here

I really want to know if pic related was somewhat a pirate game, because it was on every fucking pirate console, and some catridges too.

By the way, not sure if someone knows about those pirate hentai games for the Super Famicom (since those games were all in Japanese). I found those on a rom pack time ago, but both of them were just a static pic, and some bgm.

Also, requesting that Donkey King catridge cover.

I wanted a SNES (they were kinda cheap because it was like 1998-99) and I got a "Super Creation" (pretty much a polystation before they came up with them). I hated that shit back then but now I realize it was pretty good because the games were Duck Hunt, Hogan something (came with light gun), a Power Rangers game in jp, mario, lode runner and a bunch of other shit.
