Goddamn, OP. That's like saying that you paint but you never learned what the three primary colors are. The NES really gives context to gaming, even up through today. The NES introduced so many franchises and games that really gelled the shape of the industry following the '83 Crash.

You have to play the entire Super Mario Bros. series, in order. They're fucking necessary.

Mega Man 2, definitely. If you enjoy that, give 3 and 4 a go.

Some people are going to insist that you play Metroid. I love the Metroid series, myself... except for Metroid. It was an ambitious game that really was something no other game had been, but it's really plodding and confusing today.
