You only went there one?

There are Goodwills all over the country and their wares are donated by other people, new things being added daily. It's essentially a garage sale in store form. You'll have to be lucky to find something great, but you can find something.

I could go sell my SNES to my local Goodwill and they'd have one to sell. Doesn't mean yours would.

The goodwill in the town next to me has a ton of Genesis' and N64's.

And mine personally has a ton of controllers and Genesis games.

I picked up NBA Jam: Tournament Edition and Madden '97 for 2 bucks.

Before flea markets/swap meets, Goodwill was my go-to place for second hand stuff. Once found a PSOne for $20, and a bunch of PC games mixed with the music CD's. If anything, most of my goodwills had better toys, like an unopened pack of ZBots or this sweet mario figure. Goodwills also vary by location too, like one place is dirty with crap piled up, while on other area has some that are clean but are mostly clothes and novelty house decorations

Keep going back. Eventually you'll find something worthwhile. I've been going to several local Goodwills every other week for two years, and a few months ago I found this. Usually I only find sports games, 5th/6th gen consoles, and some controllers here and there, all steeply overpriced, but sometimes I'll come across a good deal.

Not sure what I hate more, stores that bundle up boxes with tape like that, or the fuckers who feel the need to open *everything* and doesn't give a fuck about how they do it... rip tape off the boxes, tear flaps. Never mind there's a full description on the box, or a big see-through window panel.

There's a thrift store in my area that's had some pretty good games (mostly PC) but when they get them is pretty irregular. They have a weird pricing policy of $3 per disc but I've found:

Starship Titanic (Unopened but MAC version, bleh)
Quest for Glory IV (Unopened)

Disc/Case/Cartridge only:
Blade Runner (Not hard to find but still cool)
Nocturne (Same as Blade Runner)
A huge sleeve of Game Boy games including TMNT III: Radical Rescue and about three or four copies of Pokemon yellow.

I don't know who is donating this stuff but it makes thrifting fun.

I found a model 1 genesis, some controller, a pocket monsters silver, a few nes games and one of those super mario bros. books that teach you how to master the game for less then a couple of bucks

I never have too much luck at my Goodwill, its in a pretty busy area so it gets picked over really quickly. I did manage to find a PSP Go for $20 this summer though. Since then they havent had anything worth buying vidya related besides a few Madden games for xbox

I was at my local Goodwill a few days ago, this dude in his 40s came up to the area with the DVDs and CDs and just started grabbing every single PS2 game there. He was muttering to himself the entire time and it creeped me out a bit. I don't know what the hell he was doing with those, but he REALLY needed them. All of them were shitty games anyways.

I've found some cool shit there over the past couple months, like System Shock 2, Mechwarrior 2, Mischief Makers, and MMX4. I got both my NES and Genesis there a few years back, both of which came with a dozen or so games for 20 bucks or something. I never see things like that anymore, though.

My Goodwill has NOTHING
No vidya
No toys, except for some boxed preschool stuff from Target a year ago.

I think my store at least scoops up everything and puts it online, the online store is full of lots of "would people even bid on that?" kind of items.

I've gotten Mole Mania, Kong Bong Country 2, and Grim Fandango (a little banged up but still in box and with manual) at Goodwill, but those were the extent of my findings and I go a couple times a week. Someone's holdin' out on me in the Tacoma area.

All the good shit at Goodwill goes straight to goodwill.com in 90% of stores. Indie thrift stores always have a million worthless games for $4 each but SOMETIMES you get to be the first guy to comb it after something good appears. The only thrift stores that are even remotely good for finding stuff at is Salvation Army. They're dirty and poorly maintained so people don't go in them but they do accumulate some good stuff and their prices are low.

My current favorite hunting grounds are cash advance places that also do pawning.

It's in this town nearby, and in a really dirty part of town with crap-tier people. Shiiiit. I should go really soon. The only people who'd go there would be reseller faggots, but luckily, there aren't much around town.

Only good things I've ever found at a Goodwill were Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 for the genesis complete for $2 each. I've never seen ANYTHING else.

Though, the location of the Goodwill in question means they don't hold on to vidya very long. They're jammed in between a GameStop and a retro vidya store, so not only do people check there before/after going to either, the guy who owns the retro vidya store checks there often as well.

Assholes at my local Goodwill sell video games at high-end Ebay prices. I miss the days when all video games were $2 each.

I feel bad for the previous owner. These things are all donated. No player would ever donate these to a Goodwill. Maybe give away to a friend, but never give away to a store. Whenever you find these you know it's some mom cleaning out her kid's old stuff without their permission.

Ugh. I hate my local goodwill. Every SNES/NES game that runs through that place is 10 dollars. It happens very seldom, and usually it's just a copy of Super Mario Bros. or something. It's horrifying. And the idiot resellers in the area always snatch it up anyway. I've had okay luck with PS1 games though; usually they just get tossed in with the CDs, and it's not Nintendo, so people don't give a fuck.

I go to a thrift store near my work (not sure where they get their stuff from) and have found a genesis, two saturn controllers, and Tekken 3 over the course of a few days.

I found a complete copy of Silent Hill 4 for the PS2 at Goodwill the other day.

I've personally picked up both a model 1 and 2 Saturn controller, 3 PS1 controllers, a 360 afterglow, missing it's breakaway connector (but it does work) and at least eight 6 button Genesis Controllers.

Okay, I'll cede that that's true. Admittedly I own only one football game, one hockey game, one soccer game and two baseball games in my entire collection. For me, an outsider when it comes to sports games, different iterations within one series are seen as trivial and able to be disregarded for the most part given that the rules of the sport, etc. don't change. Madden 93 versus Madden 96 makes no difference to me personally if it's on the same console.

The big issue isn't that they release a new one each year. It's how many football series there are for the Genesis combined with the fact that each and every one of em was releasing a new game each year.

So say there are 3 main football series on the Genesis. Madden, Sports Talk, and College. And starting from 1990 they release a new game up until 1997. That's 21, games alone for just football. And that's only counting the 3 main series that I know of. There are obviously other football games on the Genesis that were being released from the beginning of it's existence to the end of it's lifespan. Remember that's just football.

Now combine that with how many copies were sold, how many people bought em and how many people dumped only those games at the local shops and Goodwill.

Also I gotta agree with you. There is probably all sorts of shit that comes into the Goodwill every day. Hell sometimes I will walk through electronics and find nothing, come back 4 minutes later and they just unloaded a Genesis or PSone. I got Rogue Squadron 3 demo disc and Little Big Planet GotY edition for 5 bucks each from seperate Good Wills on one day (also a $20 GCN with controller and GBA player from an unconnected thrift store). Saw an old asian dude swipe a ton of PS1 games including Silent Hill 1, but he hid them immediately so I couldn't even tell. Found some good stuff there but never vidya. They have a shelf near the entrance of games that are ALL PS2 sports games, and most don't even have disks in, everything else is snatched up. I figure they gotta be resellers as they all seem like 50+ And take everything/anything.

I actually like the bid cases. They're a lot better than them shipping things off to goodwill.com to have mandatory shipping and handling charges tacked on and they're better than all that shit getting priced at eBay high prices and never selling.

I, personally, would prefer the stuff still get set out at old low prices but I used to be the type to check Goodwill every day, although resellers used to practically live there when it was getting to be really bad.

I can't imagine anything that would be better in the current market than the bid cases for the typical video game collector. If you're mad at the bid cases then you're probably just generally mad at the retro video game scene.

I just came back from a Goodwill-hunt.

Went to 3 of them in Boston.
Either no video games or ALL sports games.

I did, however, manage to pick this up. $3.99. Manual, Box, disc in good condition. No bonus soundtrack, though.
Had a "used" Gamestop label that read "$24.99", so I figured I'd be worth something. Price charting had it listed as $22-37. I've never played GG but I figure I could just sell it on eBay.

I got an independant thrift store here in my chicago neighborhood. Nothing fancy cept I got an 80 dollar kool key 2013 keyboard for 15.

Oh and a ton of CIB pc games. I got excited and saw mint baldurs gate 1 and 2....but it was the mac edition which go for about 20 to 80 online. (Most likely not an acurate price) but they didn't have a pricr tag. If I can grab em for 3 bux a pop might get em.

I found a copy of NBA Jam: Tournament Edition with case and it still had the Acclaim poster in it. I thought I might have come across an uncommon find because Jam is actually really good. But nope, besides you I have heard of 4 others who have found NBA Jam: TE at the Goodwill.


Not only that but last time I checked my goodwill had 12 Apollo 13's, 6 Mrs. Doubtfire's and 8 Nutty Professors. There are like specific things that the Goodwill is always in good supply of I guess.

I just started going to my local thrift store in Seattle.

Second time I found Jet Set Radio Future for $3, I was pretty happy about finding that. The box was covered in stickers from EB games / fucking gamestop, but for that price I'd gladly buy another case that isn't covered in stickers, only like most people here relate, the majority of games are sports.

I'm excited to go back, they seem to get a decent rotation of PS2/Xbox/GC games.

Granted, decent in my book is 50% to regular eBay prices, but getting Super C, Mega Man 2, and DuckTales for $5/each made me pretty happy when I went there.

I became a usual customer there. I like there deals with consoles and I don't mind paying extra for the basic unit. Shenmue is 17 there CIB. I got SMB2 for my NES for 7 with manual. I got a DC there for 15 and Daytona USA CC for 2.00. Better than ebay at times. The goodwills I've visited either was shit or i don't have the money. Someone in Rockford is selling a GREAT deal on Sega CD games and Sega CD CIB for i think 150 and it has Snatcher.

The secret to finding good stuff at thrift shops is to go often. It also helps if you expect nothing.

My local Goodwill had fucking nothing for about 3 months, then suddenly last week they had Pokemon Y for $10, some retro controllers, and a decent selection of PS2 games.

Persistence is key. Don't come in expecting to strike gold. Make it habit to stop by the store after work or times when its convenient. Persistence at my local thrift scored me these early this year
