I want a good portable emulation machine that can run snes decently. I have a psp but the snes emulation on that is shit and was thinking about picking one of these up. Is it worth it?

>> No.1267147

Is a JXD actually worth it? Iv looked into the 7300 a bit but im always scared of chinese stuff. i heard the joysticks kinda a POS.

>> No.1267160

>>1267147
7300 is good, except the analog and d-pad are linked, hence you can't map them separately.
But there's the new jxd S7800b, in which the analog and d-pad are actually separated, and it's specs are way superior than the S7300.
I havent tried it myself, but the only problem about the S7800b seems to be the d-pad not being exactly good, but from what i read around, is only a problem for games that need a fast and precise input like fighters.

God, shut the fuck up. I'm not even op and i jist think you're an idiot. Ever even used an snes emu on psp? Ever play anything thats not an rpg? The psp does not have enough processing power to emulate more complex games properly.

I even tried emulating final fantasy v gba and it couldn't run it without stuttering and sound glitches. but then again I have the 1004

It's like a PSP, but three times faster. Runs SNES and Genesis almost perfectly, and GBA emulation is rapidly approaching that point.

I saw people trying to hype the thing on /g/ and they got all butt-frustrated when everyone called it an overpriced piece of shit.

All these emulator handhelds are built in Asian sweatshops, I wouldn't bet on any of them being better made than other brands. I like the size of the GCW and it probably has decent battery life, but the tech specs of the JXDs are much better for the price.

>> No.1267968

The GCW has practically the same specs as the Xperia Play (plus video out, which some might find important)

Xperia Plays are like $20

>> No.1268029

These look interesting, but seems like a novelty at best. I imagine the 4:3 screen wouldn't be ideal for GBA emulation, either.

Can anyone here with one share their thoughts on it?

>> No.1268409

I do often wonder about these devices as well. PSP works pretty well but something with more battery or improvements would be nice.

I know PSP doesn't do well for SNES, but honestly if you have a ton of other systems its not that big of a deal. Its more the idea of a newer nicer device doing a better job.

You're so full of shit

>> No.1268468

>>1268445

It's true. Reasonably accurate SNES emulation takes a lot of processing power, more than a 333mhz MIPS CPU can deliver.

>> No.1268469

>>1268445
Alrighty, then. Tell me how the PSP's SNES emulation is so great. Tell me what it can and cannot do properly, and maybe I'll be convinced that the PSP emulates SNES well, even though I personally own one and it unperformed in many cases. I can't even play fucking Tetris Attack at full speed.

>> No.1268473

>>1268469

There's a speedhack that can bring it close to full speed, but causes graphics glitches. The sound emulation on the snes9x 1.39 port is pretty bad too.

>> No.1268479

I've also been on the hunt for something ideal to play retro games on like OP. I will get a PSP 3000 probably eventually (I bought all the Ys games and was using my buddies PSP to play them, his screen broke) and that will cover some of it, but the GCW-Zero does look pretty nice, price/performance ratio wise anyway. About the JXDs, I noticed there's a bunch of models to choose from, what's the consensus on the best one?

>> No.1268482

>>1268473
Yeah. Part of the problem with Tetris Attack is it uses a lot of fancy timings for rendering the graphics. Parts of it don't even run properly in higan unless you're in 'accuracy' mode.

If there were a perfectly optimized SNES emulator written for the PSP, it would be able to do fine, problem is that's not going to happen and the best current emulator only plays maybe 2/3 SNES games decently (probably closer to 1/2). I love my PSP and it's an awesome device, but it's certainly true that many SNES games run slowly on it.

>> No.1268630

Getting pretty old but still just as good as a brand new GCW

Oh and BTW if you guys want a JXD that basically does everything the GCW does the A1000 is like $40 brand new.

>> No.1268787

>>1268468
It's entirely due to the quality of the emulator, not because the system is underpowered

>> No.1268846

>>1268485
So far, it has:
>SNES (largely the same emulators as the PSP, except the CPU can actually handle Snes9x at full speed most of the time)
>Genesis (see above)
>GBA (TempGBA derivative, pretty good aside from the half-assed GUI)
>GB/GBC (pretty much perfect, even has some extra features like filters)
>NES (straight port of FCEUX 2.2)
>SMS/Game Gear (haven't tried this, but it's apparently pretty good also)
...as well as a number of ported PC games. No ETA on PSX emulation (yet).

>> No.1269023

>>1268846
So, the best thing to do is wait until it gets N64 and PSX support?

>> No.1269031

I guess this is probably the closest thread to ask in, but is there a good GBA emulator for the PSP that can run FE romhacks and fantranslations (like Oriental Blue) without crashing?

The current one I have can (some kind of GPSP) run most "normal" roms I want fine, but crashes on what I just mentioned.

People will suggest more modern systems with better specs. But none of them will ever look as good as the GCW-Zero's 4:3 320x240 screen for 1 to 1 pixel native resolution. It looks crisp as hell.

I've got one of these. Lately I've been playing alot of Doom. Ignore the shareware copy splash screen in the picture it's an old picture. I play Robotron 2084 and Galaga on Atari 7800. Lots of DosBox games like Jetpack, early Dukes, and Niteraid. ScummVM for the Space Quest VGA remakes. Final Burn Alpha for the Neo Geo library and beat-em-ups like Knights of the Round, Simpsons, XMEN, TMNT, and AvP. The system also has a port of Streets of Rage Remake v5 and OpenBor which has Night Slashers X. It's also got Duke3D, Rise of the Triad, Decent II, Quake II, Cave Story. Console emulation it's got almost everything 4th gen and below. The system has access to older emulators made for the Dingoo a320 like Temper for TurboGrafx emulation and Rondo of Blood.
