In one of the collections, Yugi Naka was going to add the Sonic 1 beta for free, but it turns out it was stolen at a press convention long time ago.

I mostly want to know what they did with the special stages. They massively improved the ones in CD and Sonic 1 just by having proper scaling and having them run at a constant 60fps, but what exactly will happen with Sonic 2's? Everything was pixely and choppy and gross in Sonic 2, and scaling couldn't change anything except the scaling of rings and bombs in the distance.

For example, do you know why Sonic 1 GBA turned out to be a massive failure? The source code for Sonic 1 has been lost over the years, so they had to re-code it from scratch.(You can see the result)

Flashed ROM carts were expensive as fuck. Especially for third parties (Nintendo especially charged a ton of them and they were full of valuable as fuck tech. It was actually quite common for Nintendo and Sega to have a huge security presence at CES just in case people tried getting funny and stealing one). And a ton of them were re-used simply because it was cheaper to just dump the data and re-flash the prototype carts.

Storage was ridiculously expensive as well with ZIP Drives. Floppies were sometimes used but most of the time developers used really expensive storage.

I think it's important to realize the context of the time was all about saving cash any way possible because they didn't actually make much money and how budget constrained these people actually were (I think Sonic 3 and Donkey Kong Country were the first times a game actually hit the seven figure mark for production budget)

If they had of known how valuable it would have been, they would have made an effort. But considering how cost cutting development got back then. I'm not particularly surprised and I don't think anyone should, really.

Being able to code a good engine does not mean you can also design a level that is fun to play. My hat is off to the programmers who recoded everything from scratch; but designing a level is a COMPLETELY different task.

I have explicitly said fuck all about the quality of Adventure and Adventure 2. I didn't say they were bad. I didn't imply they were bad. I think they are both okay, but not nearly as good as the classics.
What I AM saying is that the ports of these games are awful, and manage to keep piling on more and more sound issues and bugs. These games get worse and worse the more they are ported.
And could someone please for the love of god explain to me how these remakes of the classics are stopping SEGA from porting Adventure and Adventure 2. I'm seriously wondering what the train of thought it here.

The level design looks fun actually - other than the fact that it has too many wide open spaces, which only work because of the larger screen compared to the Megadrive games. You couldn't see where you are going with that design on the MD.
And why is it playing the Mystic Cave 2p music? That's pretty damn bogus considering it has its own theme song still present in the Megadrive final game.

That boss looks very damn boring and slow paced though. It's like something from Sonic 3, not 2.
