You probably started with the wrong disk. Use the one that says new in the file name. You'll probably want to have the speed at like 200% for the opening and then warped up to 1000%+ for actual gameplay. From playing, I can see that at normal speeds a lot of those hundreds of hours of gameplay would probably come from waiting.

Back in the day I had only access to pirated software both on floppy disks and cassettes and even though I had plenty to choose from some of them were basically unplayable without a manual which would explain what you had to do to win the game, so if a given title was something other than an arcade game and wasn't a Remember/Jack Alien crack(one of the groups/members that took their time to write down everything from the manual to make you more familiar with the game) you were basically screwed if you wanted to finish a given title full legit.

So, what do you consider as complex? The mechanics of the game or the puzzles? If it's the latter I can already nominate the whole Last Ninja series because some of them were just insane.
