Question time

You are at a garage sale, rummaging through old games when you see a gold cart for Nintendo World Championship labeled for 10 bucks. When you go to pay the owner, you notice their kid, bald and in a wheel chair (let's say they have leukaemia) Do you pay for the game and leave, or tell them they have a gold mine of cartridge

>> No.1240275

I'd tell 'em. I'm a nice guy before I'm a collector.

>> No.1240287

ask them if theyll take $5 for the cart instead

>> No.1240289

I'd buy it and then later my guilt would have me coming back to them and trying to do something really nice for the kid with the money I made, especially since I would almost definitely know how to get a LOT more money out of it than some random parents that are busy with leukemia kid.

Not like even ten thousand dollars is a drop in the bucket toward medical costs in the USA right now anyway plus I would get to feel like more of a good guy than I would have from just telling them about it by swooping in all surprise Santa or some shit like that with the brand new video game system and all the launch titles for the kid and a stack of hundreds for Mom & Dad.

>> No.1240293

I pay for the game and leave. Their kid has nothing to do with me.

>> No.1240295

I would probably not say anything since it is actually something i want for myself.

If it was something i didnt want, i usually tell the seller what it is actually worth.

>> No.1240297

>>1240295
Are you (or anyone) implying you would actually keep that thing?

No way. I don't like shit that's value is so high I would definitely convert it into more cool less-than-ultra-rare stuff.

>> No.1240302

pay for it and leave. sorry about their luck.

>> No.1240301

Buy it and move on. Their kid won't be around long enough to enjoy it and they've got bigger problems than a measly 10k game being sold for $10

>> No.1240308

I'd tell them it's rare so they could take it to a reseller and get $25 for it and the reseller could sell it for a shitload and me and the poor cancer kid get sweet fuck all.

>> No.1240309

I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time picturing this. I think it's virtually impossible to have this game and not know it's value anymore. I mean, you have faggots selling common as shit games for hundreds, you seriously think Average Joe is gonna look at this shiny gold piece of plastic with the weird buttons sticking out and such grandeur words as "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" written on it and think "yep, $10"?

>> No.1240316

>>1240309
And how would he have gotten it in the first place? He just forgot he was a finalist in the Nintendo World Championships in 1990

>> No.1240324

>>1240316
Wrong.
The ones given at the actual championship were the gray carts. The gold ones were a Nintendo Power giveaway. He could've easily forgotten winning that random giveaway from a magazine.

This is also half the reason gold carts are worth so much more. There are less known to exist, but who knows how many people have forgotten about it or simply don't care whilst having one within their possession.

Haha, it is weird that this thread is here.

I just came across an ad on facebook for a bunch of boxed PAL N64 games including Conkers, Star craft 64 and smash bros.

The bundle would easily sell for $1500 on ebay, but i told the seller what they were worth instead of buying them.

Now all the reseller scum who lurk on those pages are pissed off at me.

>Now all the reseller scum who lurk on those pages are pissed off at me.
Nice.

>> No.1240353

I would buy it because I'd be interested in it for my own personal collection. I'd tell them if it was something I didn't want because I'm not a scumfuck reseller.

>> No.1240365

The kid's going to die anyways, I could actually use the money.

>> No.1240372

It's actually pretty cruel to prolong cancer kids lives.

If i had a terminal illness, i would want to end it as soon as possible instead of forcing my loved ones to care for me using their time and money

PLOT TWIST
The game is actually Zelda with a repro label, the dying kid changed the sticker as a prank

>> No.1240397

>Starcraft 64
Is it actually worth a lot of money? I picked one up years ago when they were $4 on ebay.

>My son won this garbage from some vidya magazine in the 90s. Then he became a heroin addict and died from aids prostitutin to support his habit. Gettin rid o all his shit, here ya go, its shiny so $10

>> No.1240413

>>1240393
good point

the bestest solution is to buy it for $10 test it to make sure it's legit then flip it for $13,000+ and perhaps donate a portion of that back to the family explaining that you didn't know it was worth that much and felt guilty

>> No.1240521

The Australian/PAL version is pretty rare since it came out late in the N64's life and didnt sell very well.

The NTSC version is still worth about $100 though.

[citation needed] haha but really how do you know they were pissed off did you get angry messages? That's pretty awesome if it they are all mad

>> No.1240526

Buy it and resell it

I don't really care about it tbh
Wouldn't collect anything I don't want to play

>> No.1240531

>>1240527
The guy has since deleted the ads.

I had a guy message me saying i was a fuckhead and that he has to make a living and doesnt need people like me to interfere. another person who i know is a reseller commented on the ad saying that i don't know what i'm talking about and should just mind my own business.

I reported their profiles to the group admin and facebook since they use fake names/profiles.

They buy stuff cheap using one profile then sell it on another so people don't realize.

I have gotten a few of them banned from pages and one even got investigated by police for selling stolen good. lol.

>>1240413
That sounds like a very reasonable and fair suggestion if you feel you should.

>> No.1240558

I'd tell them what its worth then, I'd ask them if they are still willing to sell it to me, for that price or an increased price.

if not oh well...

>>1240287
To be 100% honest, this ^.
He's probably on his way out anyways, plus that doesn't have anything to do with me. Also they should've spent more effort researching prices.

I pay for the game and leave. I don't have a NES, so I'd sell it.

If someone is stupid enough not to price check the games they're selling, it's their own fault. Period.

Also:
>>1240301
>Buy it and move on. Their kid won't be around long enough to enjoy it and they've got bigger problems than a measly 10k game being sold for $10

Then I'd save the blood money, and go on with my life.

>> No.1240615

I heard a good quote today - an adult is someone who takes care of himself; a man is someone who takes care of others. I know it doesn't apply too well in this scenario, but I think the "manly" thing to do here is tell the sellers what it's actually worth, and that's what I would do.

>> No.1240617

I'd fucking tell them about it, maybe even pull up some ebay listings on my phone so they get an idea of what it's worth.

Unlike some people, I actually have a compassionate side.

>> No.1240625

I'd tell them even without the sob story.
