I actually spoke to David Warner at a signing a few months back. Did the usual talk about how much I loved his voice work in stuff like Batman the Animated Series and Baldur's Gate 2 etc. (he kind of got me into actually learning about voice actors since his shit as Irenicus was so good).

I decided to jokingly ask him a little about being in TMNT 2. His immediate response was "Oh yes, my favourite." I then asked if he got to really meet Vanilla Ice, and said that sadly he didn't since he was "the real star", but he did have that scene where he did "a little dance" at the concert. He then said he doubted Vanilla Ice would have had anything interesting to say anyway.

Nice guy, good sense of humor. I suppose you'd have to have one, bouncing between stuff like Titanic and then voicing a villain with a giant brain for a head on Freakazoid.

Man, I used to love the archie comics. It was the only comic book I ever subscribed to. It was great until around issue 75 or so. I'm not sure if it actually went downhill, or I grew up too much to fully enjoy it. It just seemed like it was trying to wrap up storylines too quickly, making sure every plot thread wrapped up in one or two issues. Shoehorning in every new sonic game into the continuity didn't help either.

I wonder if it ever got good again?

It kind of did in recent years, but at this point it's too little too late, for the entire Sonic franchise as a whole to me, personally. The comic for me more or less ends at 50 or 51. Whichever one ties the whole series in a knot and they have that stupid cop-out ending where Sally comes back to life because of fan backlash from her getting killed off. After that it got really goofy, especially when Adventure came out and they had to shoehorn that contuity in.

From what I've read, the "Endgame Saga" was going to be the final send off for the series, but they sales were so good that they revived it. Kind like Power Rangers In Space really

Oh, I know. That's why I pretty much consider Endgame to be a decent stopping point for the series. You can read up to it and be satisfied with its ending.

>There can certainly be an argument for Archie Sonic being "too goofy" prior to Endgame as well as Archie Sonic being "too goofy" post Endgame. I'm sure that there's a fair amount of opinion on both

By "goofy" I'm mostly referring to the fact that they had to fit the continuity of the games into the already-established continuity of the comic. Things like making Mobius and the real world two different worlds, Robotnik and Eggman into two different characters. It worked when they had things like those short Sonic 3 & Knuckles-esque story arcs because it fit with the world and story of the comic itself, but I feel like they just did a poor job of mixing the two together as time went on, largely because the stories of the games became just ridiculously convuluted in the Dreamcast era. Maybe that was Sega's fault for pushing Archie to do it, I don't know. Really around the point Penders started drawing and writing I get the hell out of dodge.

I actually like it. It's more or less what 50 was meant to be, wasn't it? My only really big stink is them not sticking to the plan of killing Sally. I think it would've made the "ending" a lot more profound and especially would've made it a lot easier for the comic to reboot itself for the Adventure games instead of warping the two together.

I'm honestly shocked they haven't outright rebooted it yet. I really haven't paid attention to the comic seriously since the 90s (To the point where I was shocked when I played Mega Collection and found out that the comic was still ongoing) aside maybe buying an issue every few years when something big happens (Robotnik referencing "From the show" and "Ping-as" I felt I kind of had to buy) but I can only imagine the readerbase is getting thinner and thinner, and I really doubt kids who are just now getting into the series care about the SatAM characters or even know why they're in the comic, especially when the series' cast is so overblown these days. I heard the Mega Man crossover was really good but I missed it. Mostly because I feel ridiculous buying a Sonic the Hedgehog comic in public in my 20s.
