Hi. 3 things first:

1) I'm 35.
2) I'm playing through FF7 for the very first time.
3) Shut up.

So far I can see why this game holds a special place in many people's hearts. Thanks to /vr/, I've discovered other gems like Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, and FF6 (or is it 3?).

but GODDAMMIT I AM GOING TO KILL THE ASSWRENCH WHO...WHAT THE SHIT? THE GODDAMN ROOF FELL DOWN YOU COCKSUCKING BAG OF FUCK It went from cute to fuck in a matter of seconds.

Ass.

I'm still reeling pissed. Okay, on the first disc, right? Right after the train graveyard?

So... What were you doing as a child and then an adolescent and then a young man instead of playing these video games?

Ohhh, you're talking about when Reno drops the plate on Sector 7? I thought it had something to do with your picture, since you said the roof fell down. Yeah, it's some shit ain't it?

Got my C64 when I was 5, had to rely on my older brother (and Fairlight for that matter) for games until 1989 when we could afford an NES.

Long story short I was a Mortal Kombat kid. No RPGs. I regret that now.

He could have been playing other games. Don't ask silly questions.

it's fucking horrid! Shit got way too serious too quick. Wasn't expecting it.

Well I guess as long as you're making up for lost time. In a way I envy you. I have to play obscure games like Illusion City to get a new retro RPG experience.

>> No.1226992

>>1226985

I can understand that. I am lucky, I guess.

Makes me wonder, though. I was a depressed asshole in high school who knew MK I, II, and III backwards and forwards. I wonder if the quality of my life would have improved if I had chosen a SNES instead of a Genesis that fateful day?

Deep.

Just wait until you get to disc 1's ending, unless you already know the spoiler.

Well, in the opening sequence you're acting as a member of a terrorist organization, blowing up a power plant and more than likely killing hundreds if not thousands of innocent people in the process. The bad guy doing bad things isn't so shocking in comparison. It's just that it's happening to characters you care about this time.

You could have been playing the Phantasy Star series on your Genesis.

Honestly I think I've heard in passing what will happen. I hope it isn't true.

>>1227017

It's not that. Like I said it went from cute to goddamn this is morose.

>>1227023

True. Like I said, I wasn't into RPGs. I tried to get into Pool of Radiance on the C64 but I wasn't patient what with the loading times for one.

Tell me, OP. Tifa or Aerith?

Neither! I really hope I don't have to pick one and then Cloud falls in love with the other one.

Let's not make this a thread about how OP should have lived his life 25 years ago.

I'm in a semi-similar situation OP. I'm 23 and playing FF7 for my second time. I don't remember much from my first play through besides a flock mentality when it came to the game so I wanted to play it through again with a more detached and/or objective perspective and I'm actually really blown away how strong the characterization is. It falls off once you leave Midgar and scenes are written with semi-interchangable lines to reflect who is in the party at the time as opposed to in Midgar when you can't change party members and the scenes are written with knowing which characters will be in which scenes.

But the game still holds up quite well. The encounter rate seems perfectly balanced so that exploring can still seem somewhat perilous without being tedious.

The tone of the game is more lighthearted than I remember, but will occasionally swing in a more serious direction to remind you of the scope of Cloud's mission. It's a very well presented game. I think it deserves the praise it gets.

You don't have to worry about that, you don't need to pick one. The story already has something established, you'll see.

Japan as a whole has a boner for German stuff. Partially has to do with when Japan was modernizing their country, they looked at Germany and Britain as examples to follow, and probably partially to do with their Axis alliance with Germany.

Holy crap OP, you're playing this for the first time relatively unspoiled? Get the fuck off the internet right now, we're going to ruin it for you somehow if you stay here
