let's talk 3d platformers that aren't the essentials (mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Spyro, etc.). This is my favorite genre and I want to get more than what I already have. playstation and N64 in particular would be apreciated, but if you got any from ps2, gamecube and xbox era, thats cool too

Bubsy 3D.

My favorite is Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf (or Sheep Raider). It's faithful to the cartoon's spirit and a really fun puzzle-platformer. The PC version looks a lot better thanks to the cell-shading.

Oh dude, this game was the shit. I was pretty young and barely made it past the 4th stage but it was still fun as shit

And yeah get the PC version, it looks really nice.

The sountrack to the game is really good, some awesome jazz

Glover 64 is ok. Most of the obscure 3D platformers that I knkw which are food were on GC/PS2.
But listen for a minute. I'm seriously. One of the best 3D platforming experiences you can have is rocket jumping maps in TF2. If you just want pure movement and getting from one platform to the next its the deepest thing you'll find. Yeah yeah, not retro.

I loved that game until I reached a level with some weird angles and cannons all over the place. Couldn't really see where I was relative to them, and got fed up with being blasted by cannons that I couldn't even keep track of.

The camera ruins most 3D platformers, really.

this is true. which is why im so excited for a hat in time. i hope it starts a trend of 3d platformers with pc controls because a mouse is absolutletly perfect for these types of games

Depends on the game. 3D mario is pretty bad without a stick, but 3D GTA is way better on PC

Sucker Punch's first game, and the unsung hero of the N64. Really inventive stuff with a nice puzzle aspect to it, but obviously in the 3D platformer arena.

You gotta play it--plus red cart!

i think thats really the ports fault pc gta is almost always notoriously bad. but it also is designed with a heavier camera so i guess that would be why. i dunno, most times it seems like it could be improved with mouse controlls. however anything with a fixed camera is absolutly terrible on a keyboard and mouse

I played this platformer (I think it was one) on the PS1 when I was young, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was or find it through google. You controlled this kid (blonde I think...) who lived in a huge mansion that served as a hub to several stages. I think it might have had a movie theme but I'm not sure at all.

Hoping someone here might know what I'm talking about.

It oughta be Rascal from Psygnosis.
It was released back in the period when a lot of SH on PSX were trying to give a true 3d platform to have something on the console to rival Mario 64.

Graphic-wise Rascal was one of the best things (if not the best) tha had appeared on the sony console until then (GT was still a bit away), but gameplay wise... good lord.

Notice that Rascal was wearing green and purple.

So you're a magnet, and you can either be neutral, activate the north field, or activate the south field of the magnet to push or pull enemies to you or pull you close/push you away from certain objects in the environment. Feels a bit like Crash Bandicoot as compared to other platformers.
