Donations in general I'd say about a third of stuff gets thrown out. Video game stuff gets thrown out if it's obviously not in working order but if it even looks like it may work, we put it out. Stuff gets tested if at all possible but if not, slap an "As Is" sticker on it and price it.

Pricing depends on who gets the shit. Managers go to eBay to price shit and usually do 50% of the average going price. I have my set way of pricing shit and it's way cheaper than managers. Fuck it.

Merchandise can get thrown out at any moment. If we have too many of x thing with more ready to be sold, we pull off the older merchandise to make room. The whole store usually gets purged every Sunday but video game stuff tends to stick around a little longer.

The weeks is the "expiration date" on stuff btw.

Backroom sorting process is simple. Everything gets sorted in to about 15 categories, put in totes, and priced. Any thing electrical or mechanical gets tested and cleaned. The stuff you see online usually comes from more profitable stores than can afford to send away pricier donations and not have to worry about meeting a profit quota.

Grabbed a Model 2 Genesis and a decent looking third party controller yesterday for $8 total. I just spent more than that buying power and A/V cables for the thing, although I spent probably 15 minutes looking through the wall of cables looking for anything I could use.

The Goodwill in my town used to be good for game finds. Now it's somewhat shit. I fucked up and didn't pick up an NES bundle for $40. I think it had 5 boxed games, a controller, NES, av/power cords and 1-2 loose games. Way back when it first opened, and I still kick myself in the ass for not getting it, they had a Pokemon N64 for $20. Any more it's shit games, like Mighty Bomb Jack or Rush N' Attack. Here's the 2 best finds I've had. Both times, they probably just put them out. I don't know if there's resellers or if there's that many people who are into retro gaming that I don't know about.

It's funny, that's exactly where I was talking about. Whole area is dry as the fucking desert on that front. I just moved from there back to Nevada and every once in awhile I get back to go hunting for stuff. Even the flea markets are mostly dead as shit except for reselling faggots that are overpriced. Springding is fucking brutal, which is funny, because by my guess I think it is at least top 2 or 3 as far as number of flea markets in town. Then you have 2 vintage stocks, next level, multiple flea markets, ect and yet good finds aren't really ever to be had unless you feel like paying retail and above. Convenient I guess, but kind of takes the fun out of the hunt.
I suspect that the resellers and vintage stock are the ones keeping everything picked clean, that and I'm sure there are plenty of collectors in town.

>> No.1209891

>>1209886
Yea it really pisses me off because the area is so big with surrounding towns. There's a new reseller that gets in quite a lot of awesome local stuff from people selling it, but he jacks the prices up and gives two fucks about coming down.
He was un-educated about certain games, for instance I bought mega man 1 and 2 from him for $20. Went back in there a month or so later to see him selling mega man 1 for $49. Guess he familiarized himself with the Internet. Idk.

I think I know who you're talking about and that place is a fucking honey hole if you catch it just right. On some stuff you can get a hell of a deal, but on others his prices are outrageous. There's a pretty sweet shop in Ozark now but they are mostly toys and comics and not much vidya. People that own it are really nice though and they have bro-tier pricing on pretty much everything.
The ones that crack my shit up are Next level and the faggots that have booths set up in Vendor's Mart and STD West (Yes, for other channers, we have a flea market called STD, not just one, there's multiple) They have good selection, that guy at STD even had a shelf of famicom games but I just can't justify paying their high prices for shit I know they scored for pennies. I know it's a necessary evil and it's literally the only wan to get old stock but resellers grind my fucking gears like you wouldn't believe.
The thing I don't understand, especially about a couple sellers there that is if they'd lower their prices, I would spend fucking bank with them adding to my collection.

There was one newer mom and pop store that I liked until the lazy-eyed owner started to grossly markup practically everything ($200 for cart only Earthbound, $60 for Monster Rancher 4, $40 for gh Final Fantasy 7). He acts like an obnoxious used car salesman badgering you into buying his stuff and gloat about how good his prices are compared to everyone else. I'm glad he was distracted by a football game last time I went in there. Sure he had a lot more old things (lots of 3DO stuff) that were fun to see and look at, but I am never going there again.

The only actual vidya stores we have are a gamestop and, directly across the isle in the same mall, a computer & internet/general vidya shop. The latter is run by assholes (just like every computer & internet store on the face of the Earth.) Come in, see a pristine Earthbound cart for 50 bucks, ask if they'll hold out while I get cash. more like turning rough thanks to East St Louis

Either way, there are some good sides of it. What part of belleville was she at? This find was on the East End of Bellevegas

Why can't my Goodwill kick ass like this?
The only vidya I picked up was a GC Preview Disc with the box...

Not him, but it's one of the best games on the system and criminally overlooked. I wish CC2 would make another one.

Or, best case scenario, make Strelka Stories play exactly like it

The best I ever got was a copy of Quake 2.

Dude, I moved out of that shithole seven years ago. It was awful then, I can't imagine how bad it is now.

It's not terrible, there's just nothing here except grocery stores and old people. I'd love to leave, but I don't really have family anywhere else and I'm not in the financial position to start fresh at the moment.

Where'd you run off to?

Unfortunately, I lived in Florida for two years after graduating from school. It sucked balls. For the first few months, I lived with my Mother, and then she kicked me out and rightfully so. I was being awful.

I had a chance to take a job in New Orleans and I've been here ever since. I lost that job a few months ago and have been working for peanuts washing dishes, but I still have no intention of leaving.

I mean I know its library was the best that gen so people don't want to get rid of their games, but this is ridiculous. Not that I haven't found good ones before, but come on.

No shit, the local cement apes would steal everything there and find a way to steal the building itself

I hear New Orleans can be fun to live in if you're the right type of person but... damn dude those are generally some shitty places to live in

>> No.1220112

I've checked my local thriftstores plenty, but all I've ever found game wise was a Gamecube with no video cable (but did have power!)+controller+GBA player with no boot disc for $20, a copy of the Rogue Squadron demo disc for $5, and GotY edition Little Big Planet for $5 (same day all different stores), nothing good retro. Only games I see are junk most of the time.

I keep going because of non-video game things I find mostly.

Goodwills are hit and miss for me. Some never have games and some always have some. The one near me where I picked up pic related had younger people living there that would set aside the games for the glass case.

This is probably my finest find so far.

So far, the only game worth buying I found at GoodWill was StarCraft.
My expectations were too high for no good reason. I honestly expected to walk in and find a couple of CiB games.
I'm too damn naive.
