So what are some good monster sprite replacements? I like the ones in the Beautiful Doom Monsters wad, but I can't fucking stand the little blood sprites the monsters drop when damaged, and as much as I try to remove them I just can never do it completely, or I fuck up somewhere, so I'm trying to find a good alternative that I can use with Ketchup.

Monster balance is very, very hard. You either get shitty Realm667 compilations (like Hard Doom), or you get something bundled into weapon mods (like Nazis!). Either way, not sprite replacements.

I've wanted to make a monster replacement set for a long while, and even have most of the code/sounds done, but making sprites for everyone is pretty much a Fuck No.

I've been really wanting a more visually spruced up "vanilla" doom (vanilla in the sense that gameplay and so forth are unchanged).
I really like Ketchup, Beautiful Doom, and Eriguns. I thought it'd be great to combine ketchup and the beautiful doom monsters wad, so you have the nice looking sprites and alt deaths of beautiful doom monsters but the better looking blood of ketchup, and then have the shell ejection from the beautiful doom weapons wad in eriguns (don't ask me why, but I really dig shell ejection).

Version 0.2.3a of all Fractal Doom variants has been finished, includes fixes for mini-arachnotron spawning during netplay, invisible mini-shotgunner deaths during netplay, and mini-cacos getting stuck in their missile attack after being resurrected. OP has been updated accordingly.

Working on fixing issues with crashing during netplay in zandronum, not sure how long that will take but it is possible since previous versions did not cause that issue. Also working on getting proper weapons skins (with crouch sprites) to work in zandronum version rather than the inventory jumps I have in place now.

I fucking hate the way R667 is viewed as a "DIY randomizer mod" for some people.

You are meant to go there, get a few resources here and there like a few monsters or textures or objects and then that's it.

Let's see. One of the concepts I've been toying around for /v/.wad was this

You start inside a small spaceship of sorts, pick up your weapons and stuff, and once you're prepared, you open the door leading to the exit. In an obvious nod to E3M1, /v/.wad is Hell itself, and you start the same way you start Inferno, by hitting a switch that raises the floor (or in this case, a platform) in which you're on.

Now, what's the first thing you see once you go up to the outdoor area? And what music starts playing once you get outside?

I think the main theme should be the 3 console manufacturers having a war and PC mustard race being in there somewhere, probably mocking too. It all has to be a parody using the worst possible stereotypes. There also needs to be a division for handhelds. It shouldn't be just for contemporary systems, but everything, or at least from the NES and up. The idorts would be in some kind of nirvana/paradise-like area. Key people of the industry need to be in somehow like Reggie, Kaz, Ballmer, Romero, Carmack, Miyamoto, Kojima, Sakurai etc. In-references for each game community like Ridley being too big, Megaman being dead, farting Bianca etc. and of course, huge guts. Lots of decorate and xwe meddling here and there.

Maybe I'm getting too off hand and thinking too big.

Or maybe, it's there from the beginning, and the whole mission of the player is to actually STOP the war.

Then at the end when there's peach between all systems, someone trips another one accidentally and suddenly it spreads and the war begins anew, with the moral being that you can't stop conflict no matter what. I actually quite liked it. Despite minor gripes which you would have with every WAD I found it quite nice in a broad sense.

That said most of the criticism I got I'd still say is genuine, I'd consider Vader and Essel's opinions worth listening to for the most part and I think the latter working on TSOZD will be a plus; especially since he could rein in some of Torms habits.
I like Torm but he really does get carried away at times.

The mazey stuff was one part (that's fair, I did not like that much at times either). I was reading stuff on how to map the other day and I think it was Vader or Essel that had an issue with firearm placement and monsters - like you needed more powerful guns at one point than you had.

There would be some more legit ones but they passed me by, it's been a long time since I played it. The last boss (the secret when you go to the big gate) I think was a bit lame. Especially since you did not have much ammo. I got lucky though as I dodged out of the way just before the ground gave way.

The rest was just hardline purist cancer whining that it had zdoom features, custom assets and Torm did some stuff for it.

Really? I never noticed it on my machine or maybe I just dont remember. Fetch puzzles are annoying though, or hitting a switch and not knowing what it did.

There was one part that I do remember though that I fucking loved and it's where you hit an exit switch and then the music stops and all the lights go off and you've just waiting there - then you get into a serious shitfight with a bunch of cacos.

You increase/decrease the grid size by going into "edit" then "grid setup.

As for the hotkey stuff, while drawing a line normally if you hold down shift then you turn that mode off temporarily. Hold cntrl to turn off snap to geometry and you can hold them both at the same time to get lines really close together.

It's like a really, really watered down System Shock. It's too arcade-y to be a scary fps-adventure, and too slow and dark to be a balls-to-the wall shooter. Quake 4 is a better game, and more similar to Doom I/II.

Is there a way I can quickly give thickness to the walls of an area? I had a set of buildings that I had made but forgot that since the walls cant be 1 line thick, I'll now have to go over all of them again basically outlining them.

I want to create a secret area under an already existing part of the map, it would be a secret tunnel to a secret.

As for me I tried once to find a small glass fuse, looking forward to take pictures of it, scan 'em and put 'em on the back on a monster, but then I took another route and used an exact 3D model and took like 41 renders of it.

I'm a hardcore fan of Doom, so many times I would even try to come up with ideas for maps and mods with lucid dreaming, I would be in Episode 1 where I would often fight with zombies, imps and demons and help Romero mapping the shareware episode, but one day as I was talking to Romero, we went to one of my maps for a private talk. He immediately said, "You know you could be my bitch forever.." I gave him a confused look and he continued, "We understand that you live on earth and you REALLY wish to live here". I then said "How..How did you know?" He then smiled and said "Because we've been watching you, of course."

This was a dream come true and I almost cried right there. He then said, "I talked with Adrian and he agreed that you would be PERFECT for Doom 3, you just have to do...one thing". He then held my hand and looked deep into my eyes and said "...You have to kill the demons for the transfer to work correctly." I then gave him some questions, "How long do I have before the deal expires?" He then said "Adrian said 3 months.." I added by saying "What's the fastest way?..." He smiled again, "Killing the unholy spawn of hell will require pain, but...if you want it quick...Get a gun and go kill everyone at your school, they are actually demons in disguise."

I then agreed and he made me suck it down. "I know this will be freaking straight out of doom but once it's over and done, you'll get to live here!" I then woke up and this was last week and I purchased a gun. I might actually kill all the demons because that dream just felt too real to be fake and my life isn't doing so grand.

Last time I heard of somebody doing that was with Harmony (which turned out pretty good)

However I believe that blender is pretty much the way to go these days, although modeling clay has been improved and they sell cheap types that resist melting and tearing computer modeling technology has improved and can produce things exactly like or on par with the original Doom digitized models

Also when working with blender and making sprites with the models you can more easily cut down on the compression issues that come with digitizing a real-life thing

I don't dream about doom often (and I play, map and mod literally every day), but when I do, it's always marked by something in the dream being extremely vivid to the senses.

For example, another doom related dream I had was where I was frantically searching for something in a well-lit, metallic textured area that consisted of intersecting, narrow corridors.
I was armed with the assault rifle from marathon 2, and was being chased down by a pack of arachnotrons; 7-15 iirc. Regardless, I was vastly outgunned, so I was looking for a place to fall back and take cover while I reconsider my options for engaging the enemy.
The arachnotrons chase me down a hallway, and I duck into this small room and shut and lock the door. Through the window on the door, I can see that the arachnotrons are manipulating something on the outside of the door...then I realise that the room I'm in is a decompression chamber, and I start getting this extremely vivid sensation of pressure in my head (like when you go really really deep innapool), my vision slowly fades to reddish-black (like the color of the back of your eyelids) and I start having the wonderful feeling of shortness of breath.

it's the vividness of shit like that decompression, or remembering the iron-smell of the revanent's fists that really makes doom dreams stand out...it's terrifyingly awesome.

Doom is the only FPS to give me legitimate motion sickness. I have played the entire Half-Life series about a million times and never gotten motion sickness. I've played Quake and and run around like a madman on SANIC. Nothing.

Like hell it doesn't. Every teleport puts you into a kill box full of chaingunners and revanants. It's predictable as fuck. Every key is a trap, or has a trap leading up to it. Monsters always teleport behind you.

I dunno man. Plutonia is a shitfest for a lot of it. Unavoidable damage sectors, almost every level cold starts halfway through.

There are a few good levels here and there, but Doom 1 and 2 are best dooms then TNT and then Plutonia. As far as officially released goes.

Try making making it challenging not through dumping 9999 skellingtons on the player in close range, but through intelligent placement of fewer/weaker monsters (Thy Flesh Consumed does this). Try having as many multiple paths as possible, I personally love that shit.

Say nothing of it's otherwise kinda dubious qualities, I made a map that does this in a couple of spots. Particularly the spawning area, where the imps almost seem to move through walls like Léon in the proffesional. I use demons as blocking meat shields, imps as main damage dealers, and hellknights as area denial.

This has been one of my main concerns. I think I'll stick the ammo inside the monster closet(s) that open when he's released, so you can't just stand in a corner and wail at him but have to explore a bit.

Look at this image, it should explain the set-up. The upper right sector (tag 3) is the actual nukage, and to make it raise you simply have a button or whatever do a ceiling_raisetonearest action with 3 as it's target. It will raise to the same level as it's adjacent sector, the bottom right one.

I tested it. It seems like the required foes all need to be dead at the same time in order for the script to activate. If a Baron or Arachnotron or whatever respawns, you'll have to kill it again to move on.

I'm really digging Scythe. I've been playing through it using Psychic, which is a really fun mod, I will add. The levels are short and sweet, not too drawn out, but there's enough in each level to keep things fun. I'm usually not able to finish a lot of the larger 32 map wads due to growing bored about halfway through (see: Back to Saturn X).

Depends on how you want to go about it. If you're going for Zdoom/Zandronum shit, easiest bet is to use DECORATE.
here, read these for that:

DECORATE is easy as piss once you get the hang of it.
