Pinball thread!

Which one is your favorite? Do you still play pinball when you have the chance?

I really love this machine. Simple objectives and fun gameplay.

This is the only pinball machine I can remember playing, most memorable thing was the music.

There are literally only a handful of pinball machines where I've lived for the last 25 years so I haven't really played anything recent. I guess Black Knight. The magnet thing was cool.

My personal favorite is X-Files, with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein coming in a close second.

Yet, I've never played these games on an actual machine, and I'm still pissed about that. The one shot I had was to play a Frankenstein at PAPA, but when I was there, the game was in the shop for maintenance.

You only have to ask yourself one question:
Do you feel lucky?
Well do you, punk?

There's this one pinball machine they have at this local restaurant that just basically shits out continues. I put a quarter in it and an hour later I had 13 continues still on that same quarter. I eventually just gave up and left it since it would not let me lose.

Never got such a value out of one of them before, damn.

Honestly, I couldn't get beyond him saying focusing on multiball is the better strategy compared to the Mansion. That's just hogwash. When I'm having a good game, I can Tour The Mansion once every two games, and get two extra balls from the process. In my best game, I toured five times and scored two billion. Trying to get something like that from multiball is very risky and often doesn't work out due to innate risk factors such as the Power.

I live in Miami and Arcade Odyssey is the only real arcade left besides Final Round and Final Round is ass.

Anyways, they rotate pinball machines every now and then barring a few mainstays like Terminator 2, South Park and Star Wars pinball/The Simpsons. Sometimes they'll bring in new ones like Tron, Transformers and stuff and the machines are all set to five balls for two tokens. Shit's rad, man. I love it.

I remember X-Files pinball machines were being advertised in a Neiman Marcus christmas catalog several years ago for like 1200. Still kinda kicking myself for not nabbing one at that price.

I had an X-Files pinball machine for a few years, bought it for a couple hundred around 2003. I only ever reached wizard mode a couple of times.

Pin*Bot is still GOAT.

>I only ever reached wizard mode a couple of times.

For a few years of ownership, that sounds pretty low. I'd wager you'd have a game like X-Files mastered after about a year - but then again, the only rulesheet on the IPDB gets several things about the game just dead wrong, so maybe it's a lot tougher IRL than it is in Visual Pinball. I believe it took me about 10 hours of playing in VP until I reached Blood for the first time, and from then on, I was able to make it about once every five games, although never twice in one game.

Also, Blood ranks up there with the Ultimate Challenge of Champion Pub, Lost In The Zone of Twilight Zone and the World Cup Finals of World Cup Soccer as one of the best wizard modes of all time. A frantic multi-ball mode with loads of scoring is the best wizard mode IMO.

I'm not really that great at pinball to begin with. X-Files is fairly generous, it's hard to lose your ball, but I found the ramps to be very tight and it was difficult to light FBI and start multiple cases. Also my table's filing cabinet didn't work properly, it would raise and lower whenever it was scripted to but hitting it with the ball didn't register anything, so I was missing out on the primary table mechanic.

I've played the VP version of X-Files, I can attest it is extremely accurate, hitting the ramps feels identical to the real thing. Blood also has an awesome theme.

Sadly there is no pinball machines in my small town, except for a half-dead High Speed 2 in a creepy bar.

So I must content myself with Pinball Arcade (its pretty good, though of course, no where near as fun as the real thing) while wistfully planning a trip to a nearby pinball museum a few hours away once in a while.

>tfw my Youtube channel has become the #1 stop for pinball music

I really have to get around to updating that again some day.

Anyway, yeah, the big thing with X-Files is the two ramps. Right starts cases, which leads to Blood, left lights an extra ball, which is of course the best thing ever in any pinball. If you can't master those shots, you're not getting anywhere.

>>1202869

I know your pain. The closest thing I have is a bowling alley about 30 minutes out with a Terminator 2 - well, the closest thing I used to have, anyway, ever since the fucking thing completely broke down and they just seem to completely refuse to repair it, the lazy cunts. Haven't played a real pinball in months now.

Probably not easily, you need to have an account to purchase the tables.

And hey, $30 for 21 tables (most some of the best on the user-voted top 100) is a heck of a deal IMO. Thats like a buck fifty a table, or how much it'd cost for 2-3 plays on a real version of that table.

Wait for a steam sale if you're gonna be a cheap bastard.

>> No.1203157

Whirlwind was in my local bowling alley for the longest time, i fell in love with that table when i was younger. The only other pinball table i played a lot was the Street Fighter 2 table that is currently still in great condition at a local laundromat.
