I'm pretty sure /vr/ knows about the L is Real 2401 rumor. I recently came across this video and it really changed my mind about it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6PqU0IYhE4

What do you guys think L is Real 2401 is all about?

>> No.1201151

Personally, I think it's bullshit, through and through. Reading too much into something that wasn't supposed to have something read into. The only way I can read "L Is Real 2401" is if I want it to look like it, otherwise it just looks like a bunch of illegible scibbles.

It is just some Japanese text on a 32x32 pixel texture, blurred up while rendering it enlarged.

>> No.1201164

FWIW, this exact block of scribblings is in OoT

>What do you guys think L is Real 2401 is all about?
It's a prophecy. L is Luigi. A small child wrapped in green swaddling clothes will be born in 2401 and be named Luigi. He will grow up in the shadow of his more accomplished brother, but he'll learn to cope with it like a true free spirit. He'll grow tall and take to the plumbing trade. He'll wear overalls and sport the most ballin' moustache you've ever seen. He'll get into sitar music and will enjoy life to the fullest. He will be a god among men.

Oh hey, that is Japanese OP. I can make out some of it for you.

上な ------- コード き-

Above /////// Code ki/

>> No.1201813

>>1201793
Oh yea, and beginning of the bottom row looks like 下に, which is 'under/below'.

>> No.1201818

>>1201793
>>1201813

So is it basically saying "Top Text / Bottom Text"?

>> No.1201828

>>1201813
That line's a bit harder to make out. I can see the 下 but the に is just a complete blur.
>>1201818
Not literally. As a complete example, it could say something like
>Above you is the sky
>Below you is the ground

>> No.1201830

>>1201818
I dunno, like the whole end of the bottom row is really hard to make out. The top row is easier, at the start and end, but the middle is again really hard to make out.

I would not be suprised if it did just say "The Above Line" and "The Line Bellow" or something to that effect. But the very deliberate use of the word CODE, a English loan word(Different Writing system for loan words) is in the last section of the first row, which makes it at least a bit curious.

>> No.1201834

I don't know how you guys can read anything from that. It just looks like a bunch of blurred scribbles to me.

So I keep looking at it and this really is the best I can do. If OP really wants to find out, you might be better of finding someone who has read Japanese their whole life, and actually instinctively know sentences that fit into the segment lengths and general shape.

Mm, that is true, head stuck in video game mode.

Also, I have changed my mind, the ni in the second line looks like 下ほ, but to be honest, I have no idea any more. It is like I am looking at them for too long.

>> No.1201853

>>1201845
All I know is some of that is hiragana and the only two i recognize right away are "ki" and "so".

>> No.1203037

I used to love these rumors as a kid, but as I grew up and understood technology more, this theory revealed itself to be bullshit.

It honestly makes more sense to say "Eternal Star" not "L is real 2401" like what does that even imply? The game's data has been sorted through time and time again, and Luigi's not in it. No model for him, no textures, etc. This rumor is fun, but obviously untrue.

>> No.1203073

>>1201167
This, the first letter is 上with rest being some random scribbles where you could find anything you want.

>> No.1203486

>>1201828
It must be "As above, so below". Miyamoto is obviously illumined, so he placed clues to enlightenment in a children's game.

But enough tinfoil. I'm guessing it either really is Japanese text, or it's just a gibberish texture. Either way, I'm certain it doesn't say "L is Real 2401", especially because there's no way Nintendo would have known Paper Mario's release date during SM64's development, and probably hadn't even started production on the game. The fact that it also appears in OoT just reinforces that it's meaningless.
