I don't think I saw a Romance of the three Kingdoms thread here.

Any tips for someone "new" to the game? I played it before but never really got the hang of it. I have no idea what I'm doing at the start.

OP can reveal he's playing as a character apart of the existing ones, meaning I play in one of the "abandoned" regions.

What place should I pick? What should I spend gold on? when should I attack?

Really? You can't let the thread sit for even a minute? /vr/ is a really slow board.

I like to draw things out instead of rushing them, so if you want a "good" ranking don't follow my advice. But here's what I do when I try to conquer China.

I start in Shang Long. Then I build up 270-290 soldiers. The goal is to have at least 300 in every city(and I try to have 10 officers too at the beginning). Train them using all officers until they reach 100 in training, then recruit 1 soldier and train with all officers again. Do this until your spirit is 100 too.

Keep your officers 100 loyal, keep the city above 60 in popularity by giving them provisions. Invest in economy(first priority) and farm(second priority). Try and get advisors, a civil officers, and generals as soon as possible.

When your city is strong, expand. Try not to make enemies with strong opponents until you have several cities with 300 soldiers.

Anyway that's what advice I'd give to beginners. Everything after that is just figuring out what works for you and what doesn't.

I used to play Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV all the fucking time with my brother and father on the Playstation back in the day.

Shit was great. Never had the patience myself to conquer all of China but my father did. He's particularly proud of that.

I'd offer advice but it'd all be from the Playstation version of IV, and I don't know how much of that overlaps with how the SNES version does things.

This is all good

I would love advice on these. I haven't really been able to get into them (I have X on the PS2, but this is a retro board, so feel free to talk about the retro ones instead). I love games like EU 3, but I guess I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing in Rot3k. I usually just end up wandering around dueling people then give up.

Is Destiny of an Emperor part of the Three Kingdoms series?
My uncle was constantly playing that game on his NES back when I was a kid.
I had no idea what the fuck was going on, but loved watching the battles and looking at the character's portraits.

Romance of the three kingdoms, strategy game based on a Chinese historical period.

>>1198632

There's no real direction in that sense, you can be a mercenary, join an existing force, trade, or strike out and try to take over China on your own terms.

Hell, in my last game i fought for three different factions who all fell as the game progressed, spent my last years improving a city, making buddies and doing minor tasks before retiring in the comfiest ending i've seen yet.

If you're having trouble deciding on a particular faction to back, it might be interesting to look up some historical background for the major players during the period.
