Yes, it's more-or-less chronological in structure.

After the opening chapters it (funnily enough) gets caught in a pattern, spacing out each TV Season chapter with one or more small bonus chapters, which talk about the Live special episodes alongside some "hardware profiles" about retro consoles and how they relate to the show (or Japan itself).

After covering Season 16 and the Cambodia special, it clumps together all the remaining material, covering the official DVD releases, Nintendo Channel, Retro Game Master, the two DS games, a short note about The Game Makers, and then any other loose ends (the Iwata Asks episode, Arino's commentary track on the JP release of Scott Pilgrim, etc).

I've screencapped a typical TV Episode page to show you what kind of information the book covers. The pages that follow summarise everything that happened during the challenge AND the side-segments, along with some trivia and hard numbers (how long the challenge went on for, what caused the most deaths, and so on). I'll post more caps and search for particular games if anyone in the thread requests them.

Former show staff often help run the live events, including stamp rallies and book signings. Nakayama works in a hospital right now (role unknown, presumably a nurse), but he'll probably peddle some merch at the Budokan event. The crowd was estimated at 7000, and the Budokan generally seast 10,000, so ot was easily the biggest GCCX event ever.

Budokan spoilers follow

The games
The five revenge games were Punch-Out, Ghosts and Goblins, Super Mario Brothers 1, a secret game (revealed as Derby Stallion), and Street Fighter 2,

The Challenges

Punch- Out - Beat the game, later downgraded to beat just Soda Popinski.

Ghosts and Goblins - Beat the Red Arrimer in 3 lives,

SMB 1 - Beat 8-4 in 10 lives

Secret Game (Derby Stallion) - Win the Japan Derby.

Street Fighter - Beat former Manager Noda.

If Arino was able to clear a challenge, he got a 'big surprise'

The Results

Punch Out - Kept failing and getting back to Piston Honda, whom he easily defeated. Eventually they said to just beat Soda Popinski, which he failed to do.

Ghosts and Goblins - Cleared on his second try. The 'Big Surprise was Tsuruoka coming out and rocking 'Momoko-chan Love Song on the acousric guitar'.

SMB1 - Easily the highlight of the night, I'll detail it later on if there's interest, but he did it (with rule bending), and the surprise was Director Watanabe singing 'Goodbye Game' in a dress and massive head piece. When Arino said she looked like a cheap Piggy Bank, Kan pointed out her parents had come from Akita. Arino responded by saying "Your daughter is really pretty, you know!"

Derby Stallion - Kind of boring, but Toujima in a fancy suit made up for it. As did the King of Shyness, Nakayama, popping out in a suit that would have made Elvis blush and singing 'Last Continue' as the surprise. As soon as he was done leading a sing-along, he looked like he crapped himself and clutched his chest saying he was nervous.

Street Fighter 2 - Noda did fighting moves down the aisle in a Bruce Lee track suit (and iced me out of a high-five, at least Arino and Suda were cool at the start...), went up, and pasted Arino against the wall, winning easily.

Towards the end, that was one of the things Kan was saying, who knows if the show will last 10 more years, or be done in 6 months (everyone screamed)

That said, they did one cool/sad thing with a promise

Right before the last musical act, Arino got down into the Super Arino seats, and they asked the crowd to shout "Kacho OFF!" with him, saying that, whenever it may be, when the show ends, they'll use it in that episode

As for the venue for year 20, the streamers say Tokyo Dome (max 55,000 people) but
In the last number, in a modified version of Kacho Fighter (Arino sang new lines over all the parts where they have lines from the show), he said "See you in Super Saitama Arena in 10 years!" (max 37,000, also, he apologized for making a mistake on the line, it's Saitama Super Arena, haha)

>>1181202
Stay away from anywhere central, Akihabara is so gentrified everything has an easy access/you got in in Akihabara tax on it. Stick to smaller areas as much as you can, and away from games stores too. Try Book-Offs, Hard-Offs, etc, as well as generic used good stores and recycles shops. If your Japanese is okay, try Rakuten auctions, I've scored pretty good there before.

Thanks for the tips. My Japanese probably isn't good enough for an auction, but give or take a few months maybe I'd be able to do it.

As far as book offs, they actually have relatively cheap handhelds and I plan on picking one up soon. But their Gamecube selection is always either lacking or non existent. I haven't found any good used good stores or recycle shops near where I live, but I'll keep my eyes open.

Combining a today press release with what was said at the Budokan challenge, here's what SA's zari-gani translated the as-of-date movie plot to:

"The year is 1986. Daisuke is a young boy who loves Famicom and Shonen Jump Magazine. While talking about the Famicom game 'Mighty Bomb Jack' with his crush Kumiko, he promises to lend her his copy of the game. Daisuke is ecstatic -- how glad he is to be a Famicom gamer! However, his 'Mighty Bomb Jack' is swiped by his rebellious yankii childhood friend Katou. Even worse, the game then falls into the hands of the legendary yankii-rebel Abe, an older kid. Daisuke's 'Mighty Bomb Jack' is in danger of being perma-borrowed. Is his chance at love with Kumiko over? Determined, Daisuke heads for Abe's room...

Fast forward to the year 2006, at Tokyo's Hitotsubashi Hall. 800 'Game Center CX' fans fill the venue and watch Chief Arino struggle with the brutally hard 'Mighty Bomb Jack,' a game he's twice tackled and twice lost. As the fans cheer him on, he pulls a few miracle moves, but the challenge's time limit ticks closer...

Warp or save? Linked together by the same game, the two have a miraculous encounter. What of Daisuke and Kumiko's love?! And can Chief Arino successfully clear "Mighty Bomb Jack"?!"

Does Abe ever huff glue on camera? What's going on here.

So who exactly are these people? Suffice to say, yankii are high-school gangs, the cool variety with a thing for motorcycles, dyed hair and customized uniforms. They also have heavy-duty lungs, since yankii kick off their careers (usually around the age of 14) with excessive anpan (glue-sniffing) combined with moku (chain-smoking) — a hazardous undertaking usually conducted on the school okujo (rooftop). Yankii never say no to this, because theirs is a strict, hierarchical society in which the senpai (elder) reigns supreme. Younger yankii are expected to speak to the senpai in keigo (reverent speech) at all times, run their errands and observe the codes of honor particular to that yankii clan. All this must be conducted with konjyo (guts), seii (sincerity) and nyukon (dedication of the soul) — the three pillars of yankii behavior. It’s little wonder that many yankii grow up to be staunch uyoku (rightwingers).

Japan Times likes to exaggerate. With the exception of a small, extreme minority, the worst yankii (in JHS) dye their hair (until their teacher makes them dye it back), get a piercing, smoke, and maybe (GASP!) drink stolen booze. In high school they get a license for a 50cc scooter and act tough in front of convenience stores. Cheap punks, by my definition.

As for Abe, at the Budokan event, I learned that he smiles and even chuckles as he films Arino, when not scowling. Plus he had to sit in such a lousy posture, his back must be killing him after a 12 hour shoot.

The low point
The SMB challenge was to beat 8-4 with 10 lives. When he got down to 5 lives, Kan announced he needed a refreshment, so Matsui brought out a can of Red Bull (a major sponsor), and talked about how good it was. It was basically a brief infomercial. The only fun part was everyone chanting for Arino to chug it. He (mostly) did.

A 'we are all one' moment.

During the SMB challenge, when Arino got down to his last life, Kan ordered him to cool down and use a cooling strip. Then, he asked the entire audience, using one of the strips provided, to stick one on at the same time as Arino. Kan later commented "there isn't a hospital anywhere in Japan where this many people are using this many cooling strips'. At the end of the event, Arino said "When they turned the blue lights on the crowd and I saw all those strips glowing, that was really cool!"

I was thinking maybe Arino could challenge this game, but I think he's played enough Kuso-ge for now. This game is pretty damn bad, as to be expected of a Micronics game.

Only reason I want him to play this game is because it's called "Mottomo Abunai Deka".

Upped RAWs he got from the Japanese filesharing system PerfectDark (hence the name). He ended up acting like a twat, believing he had a personal shitposting brigade following him and trying to impede his progress in any way possible.

In the fallout, he also tried hijacking the subbing of the Karnov episode without Kakaricho's approval, and when people called him out on it, he basically told them to go fuck themselves, he was subbing the episode no matter what, until Kakaricho took the script offline.

Then a bunch of shitposting ensued and the janitor went nuts on the next three threads or so. It seems to have kind of mellowed out now, but I better not open my fat mouth.

Sega had an amazing work ethic, something that was only ever seen in Atari. Sega and Atari, as dead as they might be, sure loved to work their lives away porting games to their consoles. Problem was, Sega wasn't planning on pushing the SMS anywhere except Europe. Sega, while always antagonistic, feared Nintendo deep down. In fact, Sega of Japan was scared shitless when Sega of America decided to taunt the almighty Nintendo. Their fear shifted from Nintendo to Sony, seeing as how the Playstation reduced Nintendo's marketshare from 50% to less than 20%.

>>1191968
For one, the NES could playback digital samples without interrupting the main CPU. For example, games that used DPCM drums (like Konami games) or DPCM basslines (Sunsoft games) would be impossible on the SMS as it could only play samples by freezing the CPU.

Another is that the NES has a triangle wave, which makes better bass like sounds than the three square waves the SMS could do. The NES could also flip sprites horizontally and or vertically, while the SMS had to have them redrawn. The NES could also bankswitch its graphic data far better and more reliably than the SMS.

Really, the SMS was only better than the NES when it came to colors. Everything else was roughly on par, or worse, than the SMS.

>Unfamiliar things are awful and have to be eradicated!

A minimal amount of foreign objects in entertainment never killed nobody, especially when everyone has access to a plethora of online encyclopedias. And even without, it is not that difficult to infer from context what a tengu is. When I was a wee lad watching Digimon Tamers, my brain didn't explode at the concept of a kendo. I got the hang of the few unknown words sprinkled throughout very fast without diminishing my enjoyment in the least. Not to mention that the vast majority of our understanding of the world nowadays is initially related to us through television and films to begin with. If we only exposed kids to media that are guaranteed to not contain any unfamiliar contents, they'd only get to play with leap frogs and other learning computers that have been proven to inhibit, not help learning. Why treat adults that way?

Like I said before, SAGCCX's goal is to make Game Center CX accessible to everyone, even for those who aren't interested in Japanese culture. GeGeGe no Kitaro episode is particularly bad because the game contains a lot of characters and references to Japanese mythology which is, sadly, practically unknown outside of Japan. I guess they wanted to make the episode as easy to follow as it is possible, and you can't blame them for that. TV-Nihon got a lot of flak for not localizing/translating Japanese-specific terms, you know. On the second thought, I think it would've been better if SAGCCX put the original Japanese terms in parenthesis.

If you don't want to communicate with subbers / encoders, consider posting your scripts here too and taking the open concept to its logical conclusion. Kakaricho and Nina have previously been in contact and it was described as pleasant.

There were only ever a minority of shit-posters in these threads, and vocal as they may have sometimes been, let's not delude ourselves - the most problematic individual/s by FAR were the ones from right here on 4chan.

You know, such as the one that sang memorable hit songs like:

"Fuck you cunt. You'd better hope Kakaricho wants to join LC or SA if you ever want to see a sub from him again,"

And who could forget the classic,

"Posting the raws isn't the only action Abunai takes issue with. He's always had a problem with me. Check the archive threads. I steal his thunder,"

And those who call for this special TV offer in the next 15 minutes also receive recent chart toppers like telling Kakricho,

"You can't delete it you little bitch. I own the final script in excel form. I own the translation I own the sub. Tell Abunai to give up he's a pussy and so are you. Suck my dick you whiny bitch. Quit translating forever. I own your subs," and "May your wife's cunt rot out and your children to possess extra chromosomes."

There is never an excuse to act like that, period. I don't care what proverbial chicken or egg you think came first. When you start insulting someone with coarse language, making delusional claims over work you don't own, and wishing disease and deformity upon their loved ones...all because of an argument over who gets to do what in the amateur translation process of a television show about a Japanese comedian that plays old video games - you're wrong. The merits of your original argument cease to matter - you are wrong. Especially when the person person you're viciously lashing out against in turn STILL has the decency and patience to treat you respectfully, which brings us to the next point...

>>1198928

>passively aggressively offering his wishes about what he hoped "may" happen.

When you're the sad, paranoid type of person incapable of using nothing but direct aggression against those you disagree with, I'm sure it might very well seem like those who politely disagree with you are merely being "passively aggressive," but that don't make it so. It's called tact. It's called actually being polite for politeness's sake alone, but even then they're still human and have their limits, which is why...

>>1198931

Abunai said he's stopping, because even if he ignored the drama, which in and of itself bothers him, he's simply not as interested in GCCX as he once was but may be so in the future. Kakaricho said he's stopping translating (here at least anyway) because the nature of 4chan's anonymous posting system will always incur drama, and that drama isn't worth it to him.

They're not stopping to bring ill will against a particular person - that is a delusion of grandeur of the utmost degree.

They're stopping because translating the show is a hobby to them, and hobbies are supposed to be light and fun, which this one no longer is for obvious reasons.

i like it. backgrounds look nice, sort of faded and retro. characters are a bit weird but still better looking that previous incarnations. what exactly is wrong?

Tell him than Canada also likes Kacho. And that he should consider playing Doom on Ultra-Violence

Well, the characters look a bit simple, but the backgrounds are great. I don't see what's so bad about it.

The characters look so cheap, the whole screen seems like something from a browser game. The DS games still had that endearingly shitty lowpoly charm, but this doesn't have anything.

>> No.1202904

The game itself looks pretty lackluster too, haven't seen a section of it that really looked great yet.

Looks fine to me, cute characters and pretty backgrounds

Yea... this looks pretty awful... the other games weren't that great so this isn't all that surprising I guess... the movie looks pretty lame too.

Japan seems to love Hawaii. I guess there's a lot of Japanese there?
