Or you'll get something as blurry as pic related from someone claiming that it's the "true experience."

Nothing wrong with widescreen 3D games if you don't mind ugly stretched HUD.

Stretching the aspect ratio of 2D games should be punishable by 50 lashes though.

I agree.

With these settings, even the faraway textures are very clear. I wonder what's that all about?
What happened to blurry distant textures?

Actually, the problem is inventory menus. In most cases, they have a different aspect ratio.
The one in Dino Crisis is shining example.

>> No.1179248

Honestly, 3D games don't tend too look too bad, but older 2D ones look really bad while stretched on a widescreen LCD TV.

It's why I switched to a CRT in the first place.

>> No.1179275

I got a Wii copy of SNK Arcade Classics. Every other Wii game I own is properly formatted for 16:9, so I've never had a problem when it comes to playing them on my Wii U. When it came to popping in that SNK disc for the first time, however, that 4:3 image was stretched to fill the screen and there was nothing I could do about it. Metal Slug didn't look bad as the character designs already have a squished/super-deformed look to them, and neither did King of the Monsters due their bulky and/or muscular look. The only other game I played off that disc that night was Fatal Fury, and I didn't like how it looked. At least it wasn't too bad to deal with. At least the image looked perfectly sharp, thanks to the Wii U's upscaling capabilities.

That image stretching problem only ever happened the first time I played that disc. The Wii U has gotten it right every other time, and now it looks perfect in HD. Maybe it had something to do with that recent major system update.

>>1179379
Pete's OpenGL with the highest possible internal resolution probably.

>> No.1179606

>>1179587
I am not quite sure he's using it in that screenshot, but PCSX-R has a widescreen hack, allowing true widescreen in 3D games. It works better in some games than in others, though. I tried it in Ape Escape, and it resulted in a lot of pop-in at the sides, whereas it appears to work really well with MGS.

>> No.1179652

>>1179543
I tried to switch it on my TV, but I couldn't. At all. If anything is plugged in to the TV via HDMI, the TV and device figure it out automatically with no possibility for me to manually adjusting the TV.

When I said there was nothing I could do, I really meant it.

>> No.1179669

I don't think so, as both >>1179067 and >>1179232 have similar resolution, yet >>1179067 has smooth polygons, so it has to be some settings, even if surely the resoluton helps a lot.

>> No.1179678

>>1179669
One is using an OpenGL plugin, the other is using software rendering. The latter retains a lot of dithering, which is more accurate, but results in less smooth shading and such.

Also, I think he's using some texture filtering in the hi-res shot.

I love when stupid graphicswhore do this kind of shit.
Favouring "enhanced" graphics over smooth gameplay is for people with no standars at all, the funniest part being that you claim that your emulated setup is actually superior.

>> No.1179684

>>1179680
Also I will add that doing this for MGS, which has a perfect PC version that's playable with no problem on modern OS while having both enhanced graphics and smooth gameplay, is even more stupid.

in b4 you complain about the PC version with lies or because you don't know how to plug in a pad to your computer

>> No.1179689

>>1179680
I'm pretty sure that FPS count is for the in-game framerate, not to emulated framerate, which makes sense given MGS had quite a bit of slowdown at times. He'd have to have one hell of a shit PC for a PS1 game to run that slow using OpenGL graphics.

>> No.1179705

>>1179689
Actually, never mind, I just checked, and that counter does appear to be for the emulated framerate, which indicates he was not running it at full speed.

Still, it really isn't that hard to get full speed with all the bells and whistles. You just need a PC made in the past 5 years and better graphics than Intel integrated shit. So basically, as long as it's not a shitty netbook, you ought to be able to play that at full speed.

I've been emulating PSX games lately and I want to replay Ape Escape. But no matter where I download the ROM the game's controls are all messed up (analog sticks not mapped correctly or something).
Anybody else know what I'm talking about? Is it just the gamepad I'm using? I haven't had any problems using the analog sticks for any other PS game.
