Just played through this game for the first time
>that ending
I'm disappointed. I wanted to spend eternity with under world Elle and be happy together ;_;

Also what was up with that dream in Astarica?

I want to play this again but I really want to play on my SNES and being in North America that is a costly situation. I have beaten it 2 times on an emulator so far and had a lot of fun.

Bloody Mary Did you get stuck at this point also?

A little but then I realised I can use the lunge attack to wither her away with no damage. Just used hit and run tactis. if done right she is unable to land a single blow.

The important part is to notice how she stands in the circle of floating balls that do 40 or something damage to you. She doesn't actually stand in the middle of the rotating circle put on the upper part of the circle. So when you lunge, try not to lunge through the very middle of the circle as the period of invincibility granted by your attack animation will be too short to escape the radius. instead lunge through the top part of the circle where she is standing.

Were you the correct level or just doing 1-3 dmg to her? That's one of the biggest flaws in this game, for some reason the bloody mary fight requires you to be at least a certain level or you do no damage to her. Once I figured that out it went a lot better. I preferred the first half of the game without the humans to the second half but the second half was still really cool influencing the different towns and talking to that one bird that flies you to the north pole even though all he says is (....) or (....) but if you remember the choices from when you could talk to animals it goes to the same places.

My hits consisted of anything from 3 to 8. it did take quite a while but after figuring out how to lunge it was pretty quick considering how piss easy it is to dodge her attacks and how frequently I could land hits on her.

The Bloody Mary fight forced you to use magic.
IIRC the electric/ ray spell or whatever was called, hurt her loads.

I felt like the game when sort of down hill after this area or the water palace place, whichever came last. I leveled up so much in the water tower on those fish that kept spawning and then there wasn't anything else to fight after that until you got to the final boss. They should have done the chapters more balanced with action and story but still a great game

Everyone who played Terranigma when they were kids basically 1 hitted her to death.

I remember I got it as a christmas present when I was 9. Only present I still remember.

She has a resistance against the weapon you find in her castle, if you switch to your previous weapon your damage double.

Also, fill up on Elec Rings, they do ~20 a pop

Yeah, the magic/ spell system was superfluous in this game. You can finish it without using it even once. I beat her by brute force too.

It's actually a pretty nasty glitch. If you are below level 25, the fight is a nightmare. She deals a LOT of damage while you don't do shit. The official strategy guide actually stated that you have to be at level 25 or above at that point. However, even with occasional grinding, you are usually at level 15 or something. I can't imagine that this was intentional (even though the strategy guide talked about it as if it was perfectly normal). It's really grating to grind for 10 or more levels, the worst part about it is that you will become ridiculously overpowered.
I love that game, but this section really drags it down for me. I heard that it is perfectly doable if you use magic rings, though. Never tried that out.

I you grind to level 25 for Bloody Mary, then the rest of the game will be a joke.

I've heard that from a lot of people but I've never found it true for myself, not sure why, I doubt that I just have mad Terranigma skills. I always abused the lunge attack and never found that fight very hard, even without grinding,

I loved this game so much... I know the ending was sad, but I honestly would not have it any other way. It just would not have been nearly as memorable

Strange how they released a v2 for the first volume but didn't touch the second.

It does leave a lot for the player to fill in though. Does Ark get the chance to reincarnate like the rest? Do souls retain past memories when reincarnating? Who came at Elle's door after the credits?

Then again who am I kidding. They'll never be together again ;_;

IIRC didn't he basically "wake up" and became god or something? He could do whatever the fuck he wanted, like giving Elle some hot bird dick after the end.

I was actually the type of guy that stocked up on magic whenever I could. I didn't really know they were fairly useless when playing. But since I had them and was only doing around ~4 damage I thought I might as well try the magic and was able to beat her with little problem. But yeah is felt more of a connection when you were talking to the animals and awaking the world. I still liked the human part but felt it wasn't as impactful as the first part. Also you losing the ability to talk to animals and plants made me actually sad since I felt I lost so many friends.

This.

Also, Elle was called Naomi in the European version. I don't know why.

But yeah, you have to love this game.

Massive spoilers.
No. Yomi said Ark through his actions acted like what humanity would consider to be god. He created the world and heaven etc. After defeating dark Gaia, Arks original light side who was merged with him at that point told him dark Ark was copied by Dark Gaia from him along with light Ark's enitre village to form DArk and Crysta. He then says "Let us return to our respective worlds" at which point DArk arrives back in Crysta for the last day before "dying".
Upon his arrival after speaking to Yomi Light Gaia tells Ark that since Dark Gaia is defeated the udner world and Crysta will disappear. Meaning Ark will never get to see dark Elle again. On top of that since Ark's duty is finished, his body will disappear, though Gaia did say through him flow both Light and Dark Gaia blood.
So basically, according to Light Gaia, Crysta will no longer exist, under world and everything to do with it (along with Elle and Ark) will disappear too.

HOWEVER, once Ark goes to "sleep", he gets told by D.Elle that while Crysta will be gone "if we are bound by fate, we will meet again in time, somewhere. Ark. Until then goodbye, just for a little while".

These two messages are very conflicting.

What I don't understand is if souls reincarnate between underworld and surface world, whose souls were housed in the infinite corridor of Dark Gaia?

>> No.1181274

>>1181265
So basically the gist of it.
L.Ark and D.ark merge
kick D.Gaia's ass
As a result, Crysta, the underworld, and it's inhabitants "disappear"
L.Ark and D.Ark split and L.Ark returns to Earth, and goes back to L.Elle to Storkolm, where L.Elle said she'll be waiting for his return
D.Ark "dies" or "disappears" as result of D.Gaia's death
Despite this D.Elle tells him they'll meet again in short time

Now as I was typing all this shit out this theory came to me.

D.Ark and D.Elle will be sent to the infinite corridor that you were in before the final boss fight, remaining together with Elle for eternity in spirit form

Following this it can be said that the ending was kind of bittersweet. Fyda hooks up with Royd back on earth, Light Ark returns to Light Elle and live happily together, and Dark Ark with Dark Elle who I became attached to the most will spend eternity in this dark endless void together.
That's just terrible though. Couldn't Dark Ark call a favour from light gaia for all the shit he did and not be stuck in that void?

Well, they are part of the same series.
Illusion of Gaia too.

>> No.1185239

Throughout the whole game it is told how the balance between light and darkness is necessary to maintain order in the universe and how one can't be without the other.
And then you just go ahead and kill dark Gaia.
What the fuck?

>People complaining about the Bloody Mary fight
Damn man. I never struggled at all with it but I always got lost trying to find my way and because of my OCD, I always killed everything on screen. I think I was actually over-levelled for the fight. I'm kind of curious what the normal playthrough for this game might be.

>> No.1185273

I kill everything I see and I was still only doing 3-4 damage per hit. She just has massive defense for some stupid reason. Best to do is just spam magic but because you most likely never needed before you never used it.
>>1183476
And both is almost the same in the sense of a destroyed world that needs you to bring it back. Just Terranigma is better paced and had more of a story to it.
