It's actually ugly but due to my patriotic viewpoint it seems far grater than what it actually is. I always love playing ports of 16 bits to 8 bits in my Master System, especially Sonic, which came included in its memory. The video game was and still is produced nowadays by a partnership between Tec Toy and Sega, with all royalties included. Brazil is the greatest Master System market ever, and Tec Toy's exclusive games such as Turma da Mônica and SMS consoles should be quite valuable for collectors in the USA, given it would have to be imported.

Just a reminder that the Master System currently produced and sold in Brazil is not a real SMS - it's just ARM hardware running an emulator, and it's been like this for a very long time. It doesn't even have cartridge or SD ports, you're stuck with the roms it carries in its memory. Same thing with the Mega Drive / Genesis.

Besides, I believe these days only clueless grandparents and aunts buy them for children (since they're almost as expensive as a PS2).

The X'Eye or the Wondermega? That's honestly an average price for the Wondermega. When I first heard about it in 2004, before the huge retro boom happened, they were still going on eBay for five, six hundred dollars. I could never justify it, myself, but it's always been a pipe dream of mine to own one. The Genesis is my favorite console and the Wondermega is just so damn sleek.

If it were the X'Eye going for $500 on the other hand, then yeah, that's a huge rip off. X'Eyes should never cost more than $100, or $200 boxed. Still, even though they don't look nearly as nice and are missing the S-Video and MIDI outputs, they perform really well. The load times on this thing are way faster than any of the Sega-built units and I've never had any trouble with the lens like I've had with just about every other Sega CD I've had.

The PC section also sucks balls - it's a shitty low-spec 386-SX with very little room for upgrades, and the BIOS does not handle any decent E-IDE HDDs so you're stuck with some shitty specific type like 42 MB - if the original fails just give up trying to find another that it will recognise.

The concept sounded really cool when I was 8 but in reality it's just stupid and pointless. I had a real 386 PC and a real Mega Drive, and they could be both used at the same time! Holy wow!

Got a problem with the name? At least it's not named after a one hit wonder Canadian synth rock trio.

There was a Canadian synth rock trio called Nintendo Entertainment System?

I really think the massive "Genesis" and "Sega CD" logos are obnoxious. Do they think Americans have poor eyesight or something?

>>1174528
The PAL MD1 looks too plain IMO.

Either way, I don't think any MD1/CD combo look good. The seams across the middle make it look like cheap shit, and there's too many grooves and curves all over the place. It's just messy.

Looks like a fat Discman

The PC Engine, Mark III, and SFC/PAL SNES are probably my favourite out of what has been posted so far. X86000 is cool too but not really a "game system" per se.

Maybe he got really confused over the band Genesis.

Probably that weird old assumption that Americans expect bigger systems. Many systems were designed or redesigned with things like that in mind. NES, Lynx, Xbox come to mind.

Personally, I have no idea why they would bother making a system look like a fat bulb.

Sega should have waited a few years then released a portable Megadrive.

Imagine if the Game Gear had been monochrome and used Sega card format. Longer battery life and bigger sales.

Imagine a handheld Dreamcast.

The PC Engine was a thing of beauty, one of the sexiest consoles ever...it was then brutally raped to appeal to Americans. I was interested in buying one until I saw the fucking Western redesign, it so appalled me it completely put me off.

I thought the nomad came outa bit too late as it was. And a portable matter system still wouldn't have been as good asa gameboy...

A portable Dreamcast would be godly though

I like the simplicity o the Dreamcast myself.

Also, call me crazy but I love the sound it makes when the lid opens. I swear there's something about that noise that I like.

Might not be retro but I always liked this design. It's compact and it just is what it is. I might even consider it the last classic game console.

I much preferred the bigger version. I love tray loaders, plus it had the hard drive expansion bay.

I have some amount of hatred for those tray loaders. While they're interesting and look cool, they tend to fail quite often, through one means or another.

Though it does work to my advantage when I can buy an xbox 360 with a jammed tray for $3 and fix it in less than a minute to sell for several times that amount.
