/vr/, I've been thinking. With the somewhat recent release of Nights Into Dreams on multiple platforms, do you think Sega might release more Saturn classics in the future, possibly even Shenmue? (yes, I know Shenmue isn't /vr/, but it's still a rather important game)

Sega doesn't know how to do anything with its properties. They'd make a fortune by releasing all three SF3 episodes, rereleasing Shenmue 1 and 2, and maybe a few other gems but no, they're idiots.

Hard to tell, actually. So-so JSR3 won't stop me from enjoying JSR1, and there is always a chance that JSR3 will be good. I mean, Sega still makes good games sometimes.

Virtua Fighter is still good
Heard that new Sega kart racer is pretty damn good too

We usually sneak Shenmue under the loopholes because there was a Saturn version of it. It would be great to see it come back out but even if interest blew up for it the AM2 team is broken up so we'll never see it finished.

From what I can gather, Shenmue still lives on somewhat in the Yakuza series. Shenmue's main fault was that it was perceived as too "high art" for gamers of that generation to comprehend. (this in no way means that I'm for artsy games, in fact, I detest them. But I do appreciate a good, moving story)

Then GTA came in, stole it's gimmick, and claimed all the glory.

Bottom line is, there was never a Saturn version of Shenmue, period, and the Dreamcast is /v/ material.

Their Crazy Taxi re-release is quite horrible too (the Steam version at least), the steering was pretty much ruined.

I haven't played the Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure re-releases, but from what I can tell from the Jet Set Radio and NiGHTS ones, they are extremely unpolished re-releases. JSR already had iffy controls, but now it was only amplified, and there were sound issues, and the controls for NiGHTS was also quite off, though not nearly as bad as the rest of them.

I feel like you and I are the only ones that still have love for the original Sonic Adventure. I remember when that game came out it just blew my mind and it's still a great game. Perhaps that's because I'm a gigantic Segafag.

>Perhaps that's because I'm a gigantic Segafag.

I'm one as well, though I find it strange that the Dreamcast is praised while the Genesis/Mega-Drive doesn't garner a similar level of respect, at least in the US

>> No.1174267

>>1174264
The Genesis had to fight directly against the SNES

The Dreamcast in its prime only had to go against the N64 and PS1, by the time the PS2 and Gamecube came out there was no need to pit them dirctly against it.

I still play the Dreamcast version of SA1 whenver I want to play it, only really got DX for Metal Sonic.

>> No.1174307

>>1174240
dx is just a bad port, and thats what we get every single time. its a shame because new players only get to see dx. sa2 battle on the other-hand is a straight improvement, although its lacking some extra outfits.

And why the Saturn, my favorite Sega system, never got any respect at all in the US. I love anything Sega and the Genesis was phenomenal and deserved all the credit it got...but damn it if the Saturn wasn't better. Perfect arcade ports, dynamite hardware, amazing exclusives...it was such a genius system.

Shenmue is /vr/, fuck what the mods say. It's older than Final Fantasy VIII and a fuckton of other games we see discussed here.

Anyway, I'm sure Sega will probably do this, if for no other reason than it's (seemingly) easy money.

>> No.1175036

I really feel that NiGHTS could've become the new flagship mascot for SEGA. An iconic character, great controls, imaginative setting and enticing story meant that it was perfectly placed to become the face of the Saturn. NiGHTS also "felt" more Saturn, if that makes sense. I would've loved NiGHTS to take the lead on the Dreamcast as well.

>> No.1175119

Anyways i'd love a Daytona USA 2 re-release, especially if it came out on PC too. A PC version of the 2011 re-release of the first game would be great as well.
