I played the first one before I knew it was GCCX related.
The first games are pretty boring because they are so primitive and two of them (ie. Haggle Man 2 and Rally King SP) are just rehashes without much variety. Star Prince, Gaudia Quest and Haggle Man 3 are fucking great, though.
The challenges you have to do in order to unlock games are very easy but somewhat tedious, because every single time you accomplish one of them you have to stop playing, listen to dingles and then watch the briefing of the next challenge.

They have their own soft subs, all that's really needed is to take them in AegisSub format and put them into the video file after changing its container to MKV instead of MP4...without touching the video inside.

Like people have said, MKV containers (as opposed to AVI or MP4 or other MPEG4 container files) allow softsubs inside the container file alongside the video. This would be a quick process, making old low quality episodes into high quality ones. The tedious bit would be laying the text out for the new wide screen high resolution format probably.

There are programs designed to use OCR algorithms with hard-subbed video files in order to optically scan and recognize the subtitle characters and dump them to a subtitle file, from where they could be transplanted to a lossless MKV 720p 60fps video file instead.

SA's likely to take notice and perhaps share the files or take you into the fold to re-release episodes if you re-sub an episode with no soft subs and release it to make a name for yourself and your skills.

There are fundamental AV forums where people talk about this kind of thing all the time. Subtitling is important to AV people.

Yea, basically someone just needs to pretend they are going to release an already subbed-by-sa episode in higher quality, and then you can count on them stopping all current operations to try to outdo you. Hey, its one way to get them to re-release eps using these HQ copies haha :P

It is the one with The Tower of Druaga bonus challenge, DVD-BOX 5 Volume 10. It was posted some time ago. The Japanese concept of honor prevents people from uploading copies of DVD-BOX 9 since it is still new and the Chief's earning capability must be respected.

This is much the same concept with arcade emulators and the Cave development company. Newer games are not emulated due to arcade enthusiasts' level of respect for this particular Japanese content producer.

So they're produced by Kan, narrated by him, and feature ADs from GCCX doing awesome shit like conducting orchestras and interviewing retro game devlopers...but they only make it on the episode list if they're a translated segment from one of the episodes, like the Taito orchestra bit?

I'm watching AD Emoto conduct an orchestra right now to some of that kicking Sunsoft music. Why these not on list? This is some spin-off. Even Arino is here wearing a GameCenter CX t-shirt and playing games with Nakayama. I must know the episodes and order and we must have tags for them.

The different run times could be because of commercials like some of those short specials have. - Noticing that the movie has an official website and Twitter now:

- Someone's been making DDL mirrors for Season 3, 4 and 5 episodes, as well as Nintendo Channel ones. I'll copy-paste individual episode links upon request.

- Fangasms over the previews of the Budokan's merchandise.

- Random Stranger says that there are three in-progress episodes, with a fourth being discussed internally but not confirmed. It was in response to someone asking if #103 was currently being worked on, to which he gave a clear "no". Zari-gani chimed in to say that it's a baseball episode, and thus rife with baseball terminology, so she's deferring that one to another translator on the team who loves the sport.

Space Heater's virtual machine and its 720p encoding seem to have been a virtual idea. Here is such an idea realized. Maybe lossless subs will catch on if MKV becomes a standard. So here it is. Open to any suggestions regarding bitrate, interpolation, de-interlacing, fields as frames, 540p, and so on. 60 fps is how GCCX is meant to be enjoyed. If the Japanese will not produce it, I will.

Big thanks go to aers and his anonymous friend. Requesting seed on the #115 .ts

Because it originates from PerfectDark in no way. It was encoded by an anonymous Japanese individual and uploaded via Nyaa by a poster to these threads.

It was then encoded by a different poster to these threads and released. It originates from this group and this group shall sign it. Unless you'd rather I put my name on it so the shitposter can suicide bomb anywhere it shows up online.

I think he's wondering why you keep conflating these threads with VR-GCCX. The threads started back in April without any intention of subbing. They were just a place to talk about the show and help each other locate episodes. The VR-GCCX group formed later. It's still a very small number of people who have actually worked on producing subs. Not everybody who posts here is part of VR-GCCX or identifies with the group. You could list the source as Nyaa or /vr/ instead of VR-GCCX.

"Yeah, why is [the show] so important to you?"

"Because it... it taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, [Tanii], or even female.... But most importantly, when I had no friends, it made me feel like maybe I did."

My enthusiasm for this ongoing project will not prevented. When you struck me down I became more powerful than you can possibly imagine. If there is just one person out there in all the countries who relentlessly access this data who feels this way, as I'm sure so many GCCX fans do, then it's all worth it.

They're not duplicate frames, the frame data is inside the 1080i@60hz information. It's real data made visible by means of the encoding. The only added data is the same type of added data with any 1080i to 720p conversion, interpolation to make up for the lost resolution. I can make it as 540p60fps if you want to see what it's like with truly no lost data.

he bloats his files unnecessarily, boasts about it, is condescendent or merely fills his posts with jargon to avoid actual discussion of why is it relevant to double the frames of a 30 fps broadcast, is defensive and most likely treat me as some other anon that insulted him 3 threads ago.
It's really complicated to get to you, if you're reading this, stop being so defensive, if you want to plaster your name on everything you do that's great but don't act like you have the board's best interests in mind, it comes off as petulant and hypocrite.

I believe you are the one avoiding actual discussion about 30 fps vs. 60 fps. I have brought up a number of things related to this issue. Encoding 1080i video to 60 fps at lower resolutions is something that people do all the time. The issue used to be people complaining that their machine couldn't handle it. No one on an AV forum would make your complaints, why would preserving the framerate be objectionable? If your computer can run it, what is really your issue? Other than having some nebulous issue with me as an individual.

It is 60 Hz but the panel is only rendering 30 Hz worth at any given time. To make it easier to understand, it is doing this:

1920x1080 @ 60 Hz = even 1920x1080 @ 30 Hz + odd 1920x1080 @ 30 Hz

Literally:
even 1920x1080

even 1920x1080
odd 1920x1080
even 1920x1080
odd 1920x1080
times 6

Conversely, this is what a 1080p panel would do:

1920x1080 @ 60 Hz = even & odd 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz

Literally:
all 1920x1080
all 1920x1080
all 1920x1080
all 1920x1080
all 1920x1080
times 12

1080i updates every other line 60 times a second while 1080p updates every line 60 times a second. Both are processing signals 60 times a second but interlaced is doing half the work.

>> No.1166309 [DELETED]

THE VIDEO SOURCE IS A 1080i60 SATELLITE BROADCAST YOU RETARDS

IT IS ORIGINALLY 60HZ INTERLACED

THE PROPER WAY TO HANDLE IT - IF YOU CANNOT PRESERVE THE ORIGINAL FIELD PATTERN - IS TO DEINTERLACE TO 60HZ PROGRESSIVE.

>> No.1166376

>>1166338
There are a few idiots who don't understand what interlaced video is, and think that the source video was shot at 30 fields/second.

Really, the proper way to handle things is to use a codec which supports interlaced video, and to leave the field structure unchanged so that the viewer can pick their de-interlacing method (or display it natively on a 1080i CRT). If you're resampling the image, though, you have to deinterlace it first. (Proper deinterlacing turns the 60 interlaced fields per second into 60 progressive frames per second, preserving all temporal information.)

How so? When I actually watch satellite broadcasts directly, that's what I do. 1080i out of the DVB-S2 receiver into an HDMI decoder into a multisync Trinitron.

Now, granted, you may not have the equipment to display 1080i signals natively, but you should still be able to choose your deinterlacing method. Maybe you like a dumb linear bob. Maybe you like a 30hz-output adaptive deinterlacer. Maybe you like a 60hz adaptive deinterlacer. Maybe you want to view it as a 540p signal with alignment issues.

Dear JoannaDork,

Thank you very much for your hard work in going on PerfectDark and obtaining high quality RAWs of GCCX for all of the different teams to use in subbing. I imagine that for people who archive the fansubs appreciate a high quality video.

However, and this is just my own opinion, you are often quick to snap at people, get angry, and fight when people say anything against you. In a no registration, highly anonymous place like 4chan, this is to be expected. Even acknowledging people like that is a big mistake, yet you try to engage these muckrakers in discussion. Worse still, lately you have been speculating and trying to (sadly successfully) drawing others into this unnecessary and tasteless drama, thereby making the problem worse.

If you really care about GCCX and the related projects, please continue to post high quality material and don`t respond to detractors, don`t even acknowledge them. Please cease trying to make it worse.

Report, ignore and continue, that is how you deal with shitposters. I ask that you please do the same.

I despise unnecessary drama in real life and on the internet, so if just for the sake of GCCX, please let this be the end of it.

To sort of bring up a different topic, I thought it'd be about time for me to look into making another update to my music sets.

The first one, "Music To Kacho On By", is a combination of the official soundtrack and additions from the soundtrack playlist to create a sort of compound (which is why it's tagged as the soundtrack, mostly for consistency's sake). So if you've got to be cautious about pirating and such, steer clear.

www.mediafire.com/download/mo0ihsw188w55ox/
www.mediafire.com/download/6xhn6tmms9kyqcv/

The second one, "Music to Kacho On By: VG Edition", is a collection of video game music related to the challenges, mostly with the goal of picking the most memorable tracks when thinking about the challenges. To give a few examples, I picked the music from Prince of Persia that plays in the level with the Minister, the boss Arino had the most trouble with, I picked "Birth of the People" from Actraiser because Arino had a lot of fun playing around with the sim part of the game, and I picked the music from Castlevania 3 that plays in the room with the falling blocks.

www.mediafire.com/download/ma71855ky45ec21/
www.mediafire.com/download/e825mbw02hyg74s/

And what I'd like to ask is your opinions on what is missing. Ideally, I'd want the VG edition to be as full as possible with one track per episode, and the soundtrack should have all the recurring themes plus the memorable one-off tunes (for instance, one I'll add in the next update will be the cliche song from the Jogging Race challenge, because that one was really cool).

If somebody wants me to, I'll type up a tracklist, otherwise, it'd be simpler just to grab the downloads and check out what could be added.

P.S. If there's a password (I honestly can't remember if I put one or not), it's "notdeanambrose".

>they will continue to be used to produce translated episodes

Except here on /vr/ unfortunately, and that's the point.

Nothing is stopping you from continuing with the uploads and having OTHER 'fan hangouts' use them.

What we're talking about is how your individual presence on /vr/, specifically the mannerisms you chose to carry yourself with, has proven DIRECTLY responsible for what now may be the end of translated episodes produced by this board.

If what you honestly cared most about is having people 'produce translated episodes,' you would have realized that you posting on this board, in the way that you have been, has now resulted in there potentially being LESS translated episodes in the world, not more.

And with that realization, you would have either acknowledged the very sound advice that was offered to you by >>1166551 and reevaluated how you've been conducting yourself in regards to the criticisms you've received, or for the good of GCCX...which ultimately you must love as much as the rest of us, you would have just left /vr/ entirely and continued your activities elsewhere.

Again, if what you care most about is having people 'produce translated episodes,' let me be yet another voice to state that your actions blatantly contradict that goal.

And to Kakaricho and Abunai, if this really is the end, thanks again for the outstanding work. For me, it was a pleasure to do something even as simple as offering a few grammatical corrections to the Karnov script in google doc.

Does it really matter though? If your ultimate ambition really is to have more translated episodes produced for the world, and you yourself have stated you have other places to link/discuss your uploads, do you really have to do so here?

Speaking SUPER HYPOTHETICALLY, but even if you're completely 100 percent right, even if you've done nothing wrong, even if the only single person in any thread that has ever had a problem with you is Abunai, even if he and he alone is the entirety of the problem...isn't that enough?

Again, SUPER HYPOTHETICALLY, but when we get down to brass tacks, as far as this particular board at this particular time goes, isn't him being here and willing to contribute integral to the process? Especially since, like you've said, your uploads will continue with a place for links/discussion whether it be this board or other fansites or wherever.

I guess I just don't follow your logic. If you're being honest, and your final goal really is just having more translated episodes in the world, then regardless of whether you're the problem or he's the problem or whoever is the problem, it shouldn't matter. I see only two outcomes:

A. You continue on as you have been, right or wrong. Episodes STOP being produced on this board. LESS episodes in the world overall - your final goal is hurt.

OR

B. You do something different, right or wrong. You follow >>1166551, or handle criticism differently, or only post upload links and nothing else, or just post elsewhere entirely. Episodes CONTINUE being produced on this board. MORE episodes in the world overall - your final goal is helped.

It really is that simple.

>check back into the thread to see if somebody gave me any music suggestions
>instead, I get this

...well then. For what it's worth, here are my five cents:

We don't need a subber. All we need is Kakaricho doing his thing and the anons of the thread doing the editing. If we have a subber that doesn't cause the thread to have ridiculous fits when he shows up, then good, we can make our own video. Otherwise, we'll just send the finished script to the SA team and say "hey, we've got a finished translation of an episode, but can't encode it, can you help?". Then they'd probably have one of their guys look it over and then make the video, because in the end, people like having work done for them.

At the end of the day, the mission statement of VR-GCCX is to bring the people more Kacho goodness. Whether we do that as an entirely independent group or as unpaid independent contractors for another group is irrelevant. It might dock our productivity a bit, but on the other hand, it might even boost it, since we can simply go from translation to translation while outsourcing the other parts of the process.

There is absolutely no reason we can't cooperate with the other groups, and guilt-tripping people into thinking Abunai quitting is "taking away everyone's subs forever" is complete nonsense.

Approved, thanks for getting back to me.

It doesn't even warrant a separate post, so I'll just say what I think about the current train wreck here.

- My own goal, and the goal I feel Abunai and other contributors share is just getting more English-subbed GCCX out into the world. GCCX is a show that makes me happy. Not 'this is funny' or 'this is interesting', but an 'even the least interesting episode just makes me happy' type feeling. I think a lot of people feel the same way, so let's all just share and enjoy.

- Starting here was a coincidence, but I don't think that means it should end here. Even if the open, community-based projects we started here become undo-able here, it doesn't mean we should just stop. There are other ways we can continue, if people want to.

- That said, regardless of the current shitstorm, I think translation needs to move away from the /vr/GCCX General threads. The threads should be a place where people talk about the show. I hoped that switching to Google Docs would divorce the projects from the thread, but unfortunately not. Sometimes you have to cut off (and transplant) a finger to save the hand.

- If people don't want to just enjoy the show, ignore them and all who seem to side with them. Report, Ignore, Continue.

I'd be windier, but the repeat of the Yu Yu Hakusho I missed last week is coming on, so I won't. Because enjoying the show is what matters most to me, and I hope it is for everyone else.

>I think translation needs to move away from the /vr/GCCX General threads.

Agreed.

Be it by the design of the anonymous, loosely moderated posting system of 4chan, or simply the attitudes of few of the actual people posting here, I think what transpired above proves these threads simply aren't the most stable, functional places for outright translation efforts.

You're right in that what ultimately matters is people actually enjoying the show, and if what happened in this thread continues to happen, it would be increasingly detrimental to GCCX and the enjoyment people here get from it.

If moving the translation efforts can both improve these threads and still actually produce translated episodes, then it's the obvious answer. Use the threads for minor, outreach situations like taking episode suggestions or giving status updates or whatever else, but move the actual, heavy translation efforts and discussions and work to a more controlled environment somewhere else.

Having said that, if you and Abunai or anyone else do end up continuing beyond this point (and I would completely understand if you didn't) I myself, and I'm sure a few others, are still on board to help in whatever way possible. Even if all I can personally do is something small like help proofread the already translated scripts, I'm still up for it. Like you, this show just makes me happy, and I want to do whatever I can to give other people a chance at experiencing that same feeling.

Either everyone needs to be anonymous or every needs to have names. Since the current system allows people like JD to sock puppet like crazy. Also it's the fact that SA and 4chan are bitter rivals and SA is the main sub group for the series that creates further problems.

In all seriousness, the best way to move forward is just have threads in /v/ and if people ask questions, make a simple copy pasta with links daily motion streams. Kakaricho's still kicking. Honestly, like I said before, I don't think we need an encoder. All we need to make the scripts (which just involves Kakaricho and the anons in the thread), then pass that on to the SA team or somebody else that can then encode it. It's not like we're in this for the public recognition.

And honestly, Kakaricho is right when he'd rather delete the stuff than give in and let JD encode it, because crap like this shouldn't be tolerated.

>>1169161

I wonder if I'll end up being the target at one point. It'd only be the next natural step - with all of the recognizable names already have been the target, the next step would be to attack anons that are recognizable because they do a certain thing.

(Not counting TVN and the GCCX anon, there's still reputable groups in Clover and SA as well as I'm sure others)

Or even just getting some webspace and starting fresh with protected documents may work? I think it's a bit premature to just up and close down because of trolling and shitposting and I'd agree if it's still to the point that it can't be done here, another place is best attempted.

Something like streetfighter2(or any fighting game record score really) where these guys pull off the most amazing shit with lightning fast reflexes, its crazy.

I recommend checking out videos of highest scores for cave shmups, now THAT shit is impressive.

Hey guys.

Today I'm going to introduce a friend to GCCX. Was hoping you guys could recommend a good fun entry episode for us to watch. I originally thought of Tokimeki Memorial, but going back to it, it doesn't have any snippets of Arino going to arcades or anything.

Thanks

Looks like fun.

Anybody know what Halloween is like in Japan, as in similarities or differences compared to the states?

They seem like a culture heavy into stuff like spirits and myths, and add in the fact that there's already a contingent of them that enjoy dressing up in fun costumes the other 364 days of the year, I'd have to imagine the holiday has a chance at being fairly popular there.

Welcome, friends. Before tonight's feature I wish to make a statement. The stories that you may have heard of people dropping dead of fright while viewing this episode are sadly true. However, should you perish from sheer terror while watching Arino take on Gegege Kitaro I will pay for your coffin. Enjoy.

This episode is brought to you by zombie-gani and checked by Horrifying Hirayuki.

Yes, it is a known fact that SA know SHIT all about encoding and intentionally dont give a fuck using .AVI, XviD, downscaling, poor bitrate and HARDSUBS.

Some motivational posters here who happen to care about quality/ and are knowledgeable about video reproduction have discussed it several times, and even sourced old episodes of high quality raws that could easilly be re-muxed with softsubs to meet today's viewing quailty,
but got called out by the ,asses of ignorant and un-educated as shit posters and reported, proving that the janitor is also unaware of the rule4 that quality of posting should be of the highest standard and informative, yet those posts got deleted.

So enjoy! your shit quality, and in the future, enjoy your shit quality, because, quality is not important here.
Fortunately, HQ raws have been supplied so those that can enjoy them in native can.

With all that talk about softsubs and hardsubs, I can't help but throw my two cents in it.

I'll be honest here, most people probably don't care about episodes being hardsubbed. I can't help but notice that most people put convenience over quality, and I'm not just talking about subtitles here. I've seen quite a few projects going "these changes make things a little bit complicated, but at least the content we deliver will be in higher quality", and it almost always ended up in backlash. (The newest example of that? Humble Bundle.) I don't think we should force people on either convenient content or quality content. I believe we should give people a choice whenever it's possible.

Hey guys, I've probably seen like every episode of this show (subbed and non-subbed) and I cant seem to remember which episode has this specific part im thinking of.. maybe you guys can help me. It's where arino either shows or plays "nightmare in the dark" which is a neogeo game from 2000. It must have been in one of the arcade segments, because this game was never released on a console. Halloween got me thinking of it, but now I cant find that episode! ha
