I remember having fun in a Russian clone of Tibia, Darkonia Online. It was in 2005-2006, I think. Too bad that game is dead now, those were good times.

Just completed the chain on Rookgaard and then chose the druid class.
Went to and explored Ab'Dendriel, but I deemed it too hard and teleported to Venore instead. Got a quest there to fill a jug with beer in Kazordoon, but I was instantly killed when I got there and lost all my stuff.

The world is overwhelming and extremely detailed, I love it. Feels good to be a noob again.

I'm roughly level 55 knight here on secura, but I'll try to help you as much as I can, so feel free to msg me for whatever you may need.

Is this game grind-heavy? Does it punish mistakes in character builds heavily? Is exploration fun? Can you play it without a mouse?

-exploration is fun as hell, shitloads of lore and such, in the swarven city of kazzoordon i just found a book titled "mining for dummies and elves"
-grinding is neccessary but you can make it be really fun
-you don't need a mouse to play at the beggining, but you'll regret not having it later, especially on mages and paladins
-there's no build options ingame, you get better at any given skill (not magics, skill like sword-fighting) by using swords and (if you're premium) offline training

The entire game is grind. But it's enjoyable on early levels, and later in group.

The only "build" is weapon of choice for knights (mace, sword, axe), and main element for sorcs/druids (which can be changed at will).

Exploration is my favorite thing of Tibia. It gives you that sense of adventure, where entering a wrong hole means death sentence.

Mouse helps, but you'll do fine with just touchpad. You'll need mouse to target enemies, and to move items. There is Battle List, which has all enemies in one place, and your friends can gather loot for you, to share it later.

Well, it can become like that when you want efficient experience gain and profits. Me and my friends were grinding in a tomb in the desert yesterday, gaining lots of experience and pretty okay loot. And then we just decided to hunt dragons out of nowhere, hahaha. Fun as hell.

Grinding levels lets you handle stronger monsters and thus enjoy more of Tibia, but if it's getting boring, just stop it and go do something fun instead. Tibia has loads of land to explore and a lot of quests to do.

There are no mistakes to be made in character build, really. Skill points aren't distributed in this game; skills are trained the hard way, in combat or via offline training. They aren't mutually exclusive and you can train more than one at once.

The only possible mistake is leaving rook at level 9 or above; you would be missing a few HP, mana and capacity points.

Exploration is incredibly fun. The game is huge and detailed. It gets even better when you're adventuring with a group; to have friends to back you up in dangerous situations can save your life, and even if you die, your items may be recovered.

A weaker weapon doesn't exactly make you stronger. A weaker weapon just means you do less damage, which means mobs don't die as quickly, meaning you gain a little more experience to your weapon skill per mob killed. While that /can/ make you gain weapon skills faster, it can also cause a problem where you gain /less/ skill exp than normal.

The trick to gaining skills the fastest is simply to do the least amount of damage possible one turn per 10 hits (20~ seconds) on a mob. Say you did 1 damage every 10 hits (or 20~ seconds) you would gain skills faster than if you were doing 1 or 100 damage every 5 hits (or 10~ seconds) since you are utilizing your combat rounds as efficiently as possible. So:

is the best possible scenario. You just want to do as little damage as possible.

To train your shielding, you will want to have 2 mobs hitting you at the same time to use up both of your defence slots. They do /not/ need to make you bleed. You want them to cause puffs and only puffs on you. Sparks count for shield skill, but not as much as puffs. So use a strong shield.

If you have more than 2 mobs attacking you, they "break" your defence since you can only block 2 mobs at once. Meaning that if you have 3 mobs attacking you, the game only counts the first 2 puffs each round. any hits from other mobs do not count and have a higher chance of making you bleed.

Magic attacks, poison, fire, et c. do not count for shielding. ever.

Blue legs are excellent and light, and great if you can't use/access/buy some of the better knight-specific legs with bonuses.

Weak weapons are for training. As your level and skills increase, so does your damage, which means your training monster is going to die a lot quicker.

You don't want that. The ideal training setup is one where you can literally go AFK and come back and it's still training effectively with no input from you. This means the monster must not die (self healing) or at least die very slowly.

The best weapon for training is thus the weakest weapon in its category. Small stones for distance fighting, knife for sword fighting.

Of course, with offline training all this incredibly mundane training business is secondary at best. It still trains faster than offline training, but the latter is just so much more convenient that it pretty much replaced the old manual training methods.

I finally managed to get access to my other account and parcelled all of my money to my druid (far less than I remember having. Only about 1.4m).
I'm semi-busy this week with homework and an upcoming exam. But after Sunday, when I can play actively, who's down for a hunt in the facc area? Depending on levels I'm thinking MOLS, HellGate, POH, or Orc Fort maybe. Or well, anything I might not know about. Any suggestions are OK with me.
Zelus and I spent a few hours exploring the map and I have to say the amount of change this game has gone through is absurd. It is literally no longer the same game. Just some strange and confusing dopple-ganger that uses a similar interface and exists purely to beat and rape my treasured nostalgia. And I am loving it. So far from what I can tell the game has improved significantly in functionality, depth, and appearance.
But yeah, group hunt. With anyone we can manage to gather. Totally my treat. I'll pay for any supplies we need.

Yeah. Tibia went way off the beaten path with Paladins. They were basically archers.
These days they're a lot more versatile. Holy magic and they can tank mobs almost as well as knights and also kite them as a distance fighter. Downside is ammunition is consumed. Bolts/arrows are one-time use each. Spears have a % chance to break and weigh a metric-fuck-ton. So you have less room to play when it comes to what you can carry with you.

There are also throwing knives and throwing stars, which one-handed distance weapons that are light enough for a paladin to carry a whole stack of them. The downsides are they break more often and are expensive as shit.

Not that it makes up for it entirely, but there are plenty of instances showing female empowerment. The city of Carlin was stolen from Thais' control and converted into a matriarchy. Ruled by the bloodline of the sister of an earlier king of Thais, who had exiled her from the royal family. And guarded by the female descendants of the Bonecrusher bloodline as well.
The amazon camp north of venore even has a prison with men in cages, along with a sign saying something along the lines of "do not talk to the male scum".

Again, I don't think it entirely makes up for H.L. speaking only to men. But it's still pretty fucking cool, realizing that not everything focuses around a patriarchy or the cis male scum status-quo. There was actually a proposal a very long time ago to make it so the Queen of Carlin would only promote female characters or any druids (related to Carlin's backstory). But that thread eventually died. I really wish it had been implemented. That kind of detail only makes things better.

You went the wrong way. Look up the guide for the dark helmet quest. Or Alawar's vault. That will explain how to get to the good mino spawn. It requires a pickaxe and a destroy field rune.
Once you've done either quest, you can get into the good mino spawn quickly by boating to Senja and entering the castle's basement. You can use a destroy field rune, or if you step carefully all you need is exana pox. You might still need a destroy field rune for a switch on the left side of the room. I don't think you do though, should just be a key.. but I actually can't remember.

As intensely as the orcs hate all other races, they share a feeling of community. The orcs can sense, to some extent, the feelings of other orcs. The shamans develop this ability to such an extent, that they can sense the innermost potential of newborn orc whelps. All newborn are tested and the shamans decide a future function in orcish society. The whelps are fed differently, raised differently, and educated differently. Wise men of other races say that such behavior is similar to some insects, such as bees, and through their empathetic bond might share a kind of 'hive-mind', so they refer to orc communities as hives. The chief of a hive owns a big harem of women who have no other function than to pleasure him and give birth to new orcs. These orcish matrons are usually incredibly big and fat, almost not able to walk on their own. Where 'normal' orcwomen function as laborer and craftwomen and give birth to two to three orcs in their lives, these female orcs are only reproductive machinery, giving birth to about six whelps each half year. Orcs are usually contend with their place in orcish society and only the leaders fight each other on purpose. Rivalry between hives is usually dissolved through a fight of their leaders and the victorious hive absorbs the other one. My knowledge is a little out-dated. But Edron trolls/goblins was always the first stop for a knight fresh from rook. Darashia rotworms or ankrahmun larva if you have good equipment and trained your skills a bit, like 40/40 or 50/50.

Every major city has statues somewhere. Look up their location on the wiki.

You can train sword, club, axe, distance and magic. You will always train shielding regardless of what you pick.

It is one of the best premium features, especially for knights and paladins. The amount of time and boredom that will be saved is not to be underestimated.
