I don't get the hype
yeah it's kinda trippy but way too repetitive

It's not really a game so much as a concept art piece. If that sounds interesting to you, then you're the kind of person it'll appeal to. If it doesn't, don't bother, you really won't find anything worth your time.

It's cool to play every once in a while, but my biggest complain is that the coolest areas are the rarest ones, like the violent city, or that place with the rocket.
I get my piss in a stove every time i end up in the room with the square hole and the flying elephant. It just appears waaay too often.

It's not all that good. Yume Nikki and .flow are much better, but they're /v/.

If you look around you can find a map that may help you navigate. It is possible to aim for certain locations once you get your bearings, if I recall correctly the violence district is in the east of an overworld down a curving pass.

LSD is the game I love everything about, except the game itself.

The guy who made this made another game named Eastern Mind, which is the same idea, but much better - coherent story, actual gameplay, objectives, things to do.

Google Tong Nou / Eastern Mind OP and play that instead. Shit is incredible. Trippiest game ever made probably.

We used to have Chu-Teng/Osamu Sato/etc. generals a few months back. Pretty much you can't just talk about LSD without Eastern Mind or Chu-Teng being brought up it seems so I wouldn't mind more Osamu Sato generals. Not to mention given the niche nature of LSD it wouldn't be very prudent to have multiple exceptionally slow threads going on when they can all be put in one general.

Right now there's actually another Sato thread going on over at >>1135821

I remember reading somewhere on a blog post or something saying there was an FMV cutscene where a child was eating bits of a brain. I'm pretty sure that's not what the child is doing nor what he is supposed to be eating. I feel like denouncing that notion in case anyone else has heard that.

Also this kid is rumored to be Sato's kid but that's pure speculation.

I think you're running afoul of a misconception. Most of the time, when people say a video game is "art", they're putting it on the pedestal of Fine Art(TM) and idolizing it. "See how moving this experience is. It is above ordinary games".

When people say LSD is "art", they tend to simply mean that the approach the designers took was literally not the same approach you use to make a video game, but is more closely related to the fucked-up kind of conceptual experimental shit done in procedurally-generated digital media art pieces.

In other words, it's closer to that kind of weird "art" than it is to a video game because the things you do in LSD don't matter. A game will provide you with some reason or incentive, however vague, to do most things. In LSD, the only reason to do anything is just to do it. To quote Whose Line, the points don't matter. Other games might throw in some stuff that you do for the sake of doing on the side to spice up the experience of the core game, but in LSD those things are it. There is no core game.

He guys, here's Osamu Sato's soundtrack for Chu-Teng, that very rare mystery game. I ripped it from my CD (european version :() so it's a very high quality rip, couldn't find it anywhere like this. There was a thread a couple of months ago to try to find the game. Mixes by Luke Vibert and FSOL!

Maybe sort of vaguely related. This always comes to mind when I see LSD. It's one of Enigma's compilation albums. Since it's similarly trippy, I thought I would mention it.

I played LSD a while back, but I never got around to finishing it. There are so few actual areas to explore, and at some point, the game just loops you through them over and over again with different textures. I think I got as far as day 100 and decided the game wasn't going to show me anything new. By that time, all the areas were basically covered in kanji textures and nothing else.

Short explanation: it stands for "Lovely Sweet Dream" among other things because it's a game about dreams.

Longer explanation: It's a portmanteau (?) or double entendre (?) of the psychedelic drug LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and the title of the book "Lovely Sweet Dream" which the game is based on. You go through a series of trippy dreams which you could argue is meant to resemble a trip on LSD. Also note the tongue-in-check nature of the "lovely sweet" bit of the title because as the game goes on there's nothing lovely or sweet about it.

And then a bunch of people come along saying the game is about weed and tote 420 blaze it comments everywhere.

>>1173325
Datura?

But being serious there's apparently a new PC version of LSD being developed by someone with a Tumblr so there's always that we can look forward to.

Okay, a lot of people are saying it is too repetitive, and I agree, but it has a bizarre charm. It may seem repetitive at first glance, but I cannot stop playing it. I'm on Day 267. Once you think you've seen it all, you will see something knew. The map is actually almost open-world, and all of the places can be navigated with the map without linking. Once you discover the mysteries of the graph, and obsess over getting the glitch texture, then you will soon find yourself spending ten game days just waiting for the dying woman in the cottage to die or spend a large expedition across the vast expanses of the Natural World to see the sunken Violence District. Or maybe you realize that the Gray Man prolongs the dream in exchange for the quality of the textures. So to complete this journey that would take 5 game days of building textures and mapping the world, you can go to Happy Town and run around to summon the Gray Man. Maybe then you want to discover why the Alien logo thing keeps appearing. Maybe you hunt the spaceships that appear throughout the game. Maybe you decipher the exact mechanisms of the graph and measure how the previous dream affects the next. Maybe you try to find why some dreams are mysteriously shorter than the others, and why are you getting shot in the Violence District?

This is a game that looks repetitive until you get really really into it. Imagine your face when you realize your dreams can go off the graph. I don't really know how to explain what I'm trying to say, but yeah. It looks boring, but it has many intricacies.

I know more or less what's ahead of me in the game. But I can't play after day three. I DON'T want to see the Gray Man. Nothing fills me with more dread than the Gray Man. If I were to see the Gray Man one night walking through a wall and heading directly at me, I would....I would.

Well "four" is pronounced identical to "death" (shi; 死、四) so that does make sense

Man, this game is just a big pile of NOPE for me. I can't stand nightmarish shit since having terrible nightmares that made no sense as a kid. Shit like trying to stop a penny from spinning, and having serious talks with the government about it. Then the universe itself was given to a man I couldn't see.

May not sound that bad but for some reason they left a lasting fear in me.

Anyway, yeah. This game reminds me of that.
