I'm playing Splatterhouse at the moment. It's pretty cool so far, but I'm stuck at the chainsaw guy.

Great system. I just got my T16 back from my dad's house where it's sat for years.

My favorite games would be Golden Axe, Bonk's Adventure, and Bloody Wolf.

Soldier Blade is my favorite shmup for PCE, and Nexzr is my favorite for the Turbo Duo.

Dungeon Explorer is my favourite game such a blast playing with friends, I've beaten it no deaths so many times. Motoroader is also one of the BEST multiplayer games too.

Maybe if the US version of the console looked like the Japanese one instead being a hideous black brick and if more of the top notch games had gotten a US release, it wouldn't have flopped as hard as it did. What the hell was their US marketing team thinking?

For simplicity sake, most people just call it PC-Engline. It helps that the Western name is awful 90's tryhard name and it completely failed.

Absolutely everything about the Western release is stupid. The name. The design of the console. The marketing.

Jonny Turbo. I think he was only featured in a few comics, so he's more known now than he ever was at the time. but just look at this guy. He's some fat fanatical crazy guy raving about how great the Turbografx is. Why would anyone think this is a good way to sell the system?

No, if the Turbo looked identical to the PC-Engine, it probably would have sold even less. You know how the Famicom looked? Try to imagine NOA selling it as the NES. People would have never taken it seriously, even if it was marketed as a toy.

What WOULD have worked to it's advantage however would have been having multiple controller ports and a better pack-in title than Keith Courage in Alpha Zones.

Language barrier aside, is there any reason to get a TG16 over a PCE? I understand that the CD games have no region-lock and it seems like most games released on this system were Japan-devved. Are there a lot of noteworthy Japanese-only HU card games that makes it worth getting the Japanese hardware?

>> No.1156279

What would be the best version of the console to buy? I always liked how the PCE looked, but I remember reading about this PCE and CD combo, and how the old PCEs generally have capacitor problems. Someone linked to a thread that was entirely objective and gave no concrete recommendation.

>Japanese library

We are talking about HU Card games. When talking about HU Cards you should consider that 1/3 of the PC Engine games were localized. That's not the case with CD systems, only 10% of the library got released in America. Of course, there is the price advantage, getting some japanese releases is a lot cheaper than the american Hu Cards.

The European version of the SNES looked pretty much identical to the Japanese one, and it sold fine. I don't think the average US gamer actually insists on his game consoles having sharp edges and the dullest colors possible.

Because the US version was bought by like 10 people and nobody had ever heard of it due to lousy marketing, but now that people see it on the internet a lot of collectors have fallen in love with the thing. High demand, low supply.

That and the fact PC Engine is a much better name than something as silly as Turbografx-16.

The best tennis game ever is Final Match tennis for this console.
It has the best tennis gameplay ever, the controls are very sensitive and it takes a while until you can be precise with your shots.
You have many different players (all real from the 80s, like Lendl, Edberg, McEnroe, Vilas) and they have different characteristics related to the real style of those players.

I recommend it a lot. You need to do the trick that lets you unlock the hard mode in order to trully enjoy this game. It is a gem.

from the wiki: "Final Match Tennis was awarded the "Best PC Engine Game in 1991" by the German computer and video games magazine Power Play on their February 1992 issue, scoring 91 out of 100 points. Video Games, another German magazine gave the game a 91 out of 100. The British magazine CVG gave the game 90 out of 100 points, complimenting the controls and the depth of the game mechanics. They also praised the game's multiplayer options and artificial intelligence. Comparing it with Kick Off II and John Madden Football, they called it a "truly stunning game" and "one of the finest computer sports simulations available on any machine.""

OK, the premise of this game is cool as fuck. The battle/experience system is very interesting too. And the battle music is this wonderfully cheesy 90s techno:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-IuvOoXB_g
So all this was good enough to make me sit through an hour of grinding. But then the in-game clock hit the evening and my day-team was changed for my night-team, which has no experience at all yet, meaning even more grinding before I can get started with doing anything interesting. Fuck this.

Have a region modded Duo-R I got from china, surprisingly everything is legit and works great.

So I can play NA and Jap cards and, well the disc drive could already do that.

Have pretty much only played Bonk 1 and 2 so far however, as my backlog is just too massive.

Bonk 2 was pretty great.
