Why have you guys been neglecting your lovely Russian Princess? Be honest, /vr/.
You know you love her.

I wish they had included her with Cossack in Battle Network. The drafts made for her were really cute. ;_;

She and her dad just disappeared from the series, which is a shame. Cossack was originally even going to be in 8.

The last time I recall Dr. Cossack being mentioned was in Mega Man 5's manual. IIRC, he upgrades Mega Man's Mega Buster and he's the one who builds Beat.

It was at least better than the previous 3 games since it broke the stagnation between them and introduced interesting level design concepts, and most importantly, the mega ball.

8 is the weakest Classic game that I've played. I liked 5, 6, and 7 much, much better than it. The only Mega Man game that I've played that's worse than 8 is Mega Man X7.

>> No.1155972

>>1155961

Tell me then. What do 5, 6 and 7 have over 8? IMO, while still fairly good they have the blandest, most unremarkable level design of the classics and are stupidly easy. MM8 is also stupidly easy but has enough variety to excuse it. Literally the only flaw with MM8 is the slower movement speed.

Did you even bother trying to figure out how the mega ball works?

>> No.1155991

>>1155972
>What do 5, 6 and 7 have over 8?
Less flaws and they don't backtrack on the good features of the previous games

Mega Man 8 has
>No memorable music
>No E-Tanks
>No Rush Coil and Rush Jet is limited to Shmup levels
>Limited bolt count for the shop
>JUMP! JUMP! SLIDE! SLIDE!

The only thing it does arguably better than 5, 6, and 7 is better Robot Master weapons that you get to take. Otherwise, Mega Man and Bass is closer to what Mega Man 8 should have been like.

>Less flaws
So in other words, nothing since MM8 has only the one flaw I mentioned already. And just as I thought, you're wrong on all your other points as well.
>No memorable music
Opinions. It's certainly not bad either.
>No E-Tanks
No need for them. Rush has a new function that's better anyway.
>No Rush Coil and Rush Jet is limited to Shmup levels
Rush Coil was replaced by the mega ball which is superior in every way since it essentially acts like a space jump. If you don't know how to use the mega ball, you don't know how to play MM8.
>Limited bolt count for the shop.
You don't need anything from the shop
>JUMP! JUMP! SLIDE! SLIDE!
Git gud. It's easily the most fun part of MM8 once you do so.

Hey, don't take things so personal. I'm not insulting you or anything. I'm just getting across my point of why Mega Man 8 is my least favorite Classic game.

>Opinions.
If you play any song from Mega Man 1-7, Mega Man and Bass, or 9, I can tell you exactly which level from which game it's from. I can't do that with 8 because the entire soundtrack is completely forgettable. Not to mention that remixes of music from Mega Man 5, 6, 7, and even Mega Man and Bass are far more common than remixes from 8. I would say that general consensus is that 8's soundtrack is weaker than the rest of the series.

>No E-Tanks
>No need for them.
We've had them since Mega Man 2, and that's generally considered the best game of the series. There's no good reason why E-Tanks were removed other than to frustrate the players.

>Rush Coil was replaced by the mega ball
Which completely removed the entire reason why Rush was in the game. I know how to use the ball, but the ball is boring and has no character. We might as well have gotten Item 2 back to replace Rush Jet.

>You don't need anything from the shop
Then why does it exist? The shop was one of the funnest parts of Mega Man V (GB) and Mega Man 7. 8 throws the fun of it completely out the window.

>Git gud. It's easily the most fun part of MM8 once you do so.
You can say that about any hard or tedious game. But no, the rocket sled is the least fun part of 8. The Wily levels with it require a hell of a lot of luck and more memorization than any Boss pattern in the history of the Mega Man franchise to get past them. Mega Man X6 wasn't anywhere near as frustrating as that was.

>Hey, don't take things so personal. I'm not insulting you or anything. I'm just getting across my point of why Mega Man 8 is my least favorite Classic game.
Entirely my bad. I'm too used to elitist jackasses insulting people for liking the game despite not really being offensive in any way.
>Opinions
What can I say. I didn't care for 5 or 7's music myself. I can name when they're played and all, but I couldn't tell you what direction the composer was going for. On the other hand, I liked MM8's music for its relaxing jazz style.
>Rush Coil was replaced by the mega ball

Not really. Speedrunners use Rush Bike a lot and he can actually attack enemies now even outside the shmup segments
>Then why does it exist? The shop was one of the funnest parts of Mega Man V (GB) and Mega Man 7.
You got me there. I never really played around with the upgrades in those games because I'm perfectly fine with the weapons you get from the bosses
>You can say that about any hard or tedious game. But no, the rocket sled is the least fun part of 8.
They take just over a minute to complete and the screen doesn't scroll too quickly for you to see what you need to do to pass if you ignore the warnings. It's pure platforming at a faster pace.

>Speedrunners use Rush Bike a lot and he can actually attack enemies now even outside the shmup segments
I have to admit, I never really used Rush Bike that much and I actually forgot about it. I'm pretty much used to running through most levels with just the Plasma Cannon/Mega Buster in most situations unless I have a need to use a weapon or item.

>They take just over a minute to complete and the screen doesn't scroll too quickly for you to see what you need to do to pass if you ignore the warnings. It's pure platforming at a faster pace.
The earlier sled levels are alright on difficulty, but the one during the Wily level scrolls too fast for me and I was stuck on for for almost an hour. I guess I'm wired better for taking on things like the Yellow Devil.

Because that thing is easily slain with a charged metal anchor shot and it can't slow down your character to the point where they actually become unresponsive to your inputs while over a bottomless pit?

I now realize that the metal anchor is one of the most underrated weapons in all of Mega Man considering how much time it cuts spent on those metal donuts in Blaze Heatnix's stage as well, actually making it into a half decent stage.

One.

Fun fact: Duo was originally supposed to be a robot built by Dr. Cossack. He looks like he's wearing an ushanka, a buttoned coat, and has a bulky "RUSSIA STRONG" look. Then, someone at Capcom had an aneurysm and decided he should be from outer space.

Apart from the laughable voice acting, 8 is one of the better games in the series, though the stages are a bit too long.

+Awesome spritework
+Memorable music (more so than 6-7)
+Level design
+/-Mixed up standard gameplay with scrolling sections.
-"When we find that medeor, will find Dohcta Whywee" and "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Imho, 5 is the weakest in the original series.

One of the Mega Man comics, Gigamix, used this concept and had Duo be a robot from outer space (initially looking more like his design from the intro), but rebuilt by Cossack after being destroyed.
