What is the best Atari 2600 game?

I'm partial to pic related and Demon Attack.

I thought I was awesome at Demon Attack, then I realized the P0 and P1 sprites could get out of alignment on my console, resulting in an unplanned safe space on the right of the screen. I would just hang out there and pick my time to strike. Playing the true game just got me slaughtered.

Good game, though.

Hey, this thread didn't die! Great.

As a recommendation of CGR, I emulated Fantastic Voyage a few minutes ago. It's actually pretty good. I love that you actually have full vertical and horizontal movement for your ship making dodging enemies much more exciting than moving right or left (or down for shield in Phoenix) to dodge a shot.

Learning which sprites are enemies and which are friendly is a neat aspect as well. Compared to the other 20ish games I have played, this one feels very advanced.

I am an NES baby, so take this with a grain of salt, but I really think the character in Berzerk moves too slow, especially for a game you are expected to move to new screens.

I do enjoy Berzerk, though.

Yar's Revenge is great, but I don't think the Atari 2600 should be defined by a game which was basically a petty bitchfest between a developer and the Atari CEO.

>Demon Attack is a video game published by Imagic for several home console systems, including the Atari 2600, Intellivision, Odyssey2, Atari 8-bit, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore 64, PC (booter), TRS-80 and TRS-80 Color Computer.

Nice "Atari" game there.

It was one of Imagic's original games, possibly *the* first (cataloged.)
Back then they produced only 2600 games.
Their Intellivision, Odyssey, and other systems' games didn't come until later, and naturally they had to port their original hit.

>> No.1136997

>>1133146
The Atari version is the definitive one. None of those other systems can do the kind of fluid animations and colorful sprites that the Atari one has. And I know Intellivision fans like to claim their version was better because of the boss fights, but fuck that noise.

It's not that hard to get good at Demon Attack; it's a really fierce game at first but there really aren't that many levels before it stops adding new challenges. Once you reach a certain level of skill you can play forever.

Demon attack is a top shelf title, I remember owning it as a kid and it had that fucking radical boxart of the silver flying space dinos.

Although for "favourite" I'd have to go for an Activision title, they made some real quirky originals. Dolphin I love for the fact that gameplay requires you to listen and not just rely on sight alone for incoming hazards.

Anyway, is the Atari Flashback worth buying? Are the sounds and visuals true to the originals? Is it lacking any essential games?
