Olympic doom actually sounds kind of cool. Think about it, you'd get medals depending on how you complete a certain level based on damage took, ammo used, and monsters killed. Maybe the levels could be quite short so you can rapidly take turns against other players.

Well it looks fine on it's own, but in-game it really pops out due to the level's darker tones. My advice would be to make it slightly more brown.

Heh. I just appreciate everything from serious elements to over the top silliness. Also just like to come up with cool weapon ideas.
A bunch of months ago some anon wanted spell-like weapon ideas for his mod and I came up with some sort of fireball launcher which leaves little flames in the projectile's path, hurting whatever enemy happens to walk into them. The guy said he'd do it but I don't think I've ever played the actual mod. Too bad.
I've also always wanted to make an acid shotgun: it fires acid pallets that stick to monsters and locks them in their "pain" state (kinda like when you fire the chaingun at something, they keep grunting and are unable to attack). You could also shoot at the floor/walls to leave a puddle of acid, blocking the monster's path. I wish I knew how to decorate.

There's no real reason to save during the levels.
They're all pretty short, and if you save through them then you won't really get a feel for Doom quickly because you shorten the experience.

Pistols starts aren't actually that hard unless it's Thy Flesh Consumed.

The important thing is to play how you want as long there's no cheats, and then go from there.

Hey /vr/,

I've been having a glaring issue with Doom ever since I got this piece of shit Windows 8, and it is when there if is an instance where a load of shit is going on, like lots of monsters and particles on screen at once, I get frequent program crashes or even full system crashes in some cases. It doesn't even follow any sort of frame-rate issue or glitches, the game just closes and displays some obscure error message, or the OS crashes and it says "ERROR: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. I wouldn't know if this fucking problem only happens because Windows 8=D is complete garbage, since I didn't get into Doom until after I got it. Please help me /vr/, I've had it with this shit for a year now.

I restrained myself from posting my thoughts on Jimmy's The Adventures of Square, as a way to respect his right of driving his project to whenever direction he wants it to turn, but imma say this:

After playing the third and last map of the open beta, I thought the whole thing was going to go full Eversion.

They also don't realize you can't claim copyright on derivative works without permission, so anything not made completely from scratch they don't have a copyright on anyway.

They also apparently don't get the irony in restricting usage of their edited resources, coding and level design in a mod that requires the use of a sourceport which took thousands of manhours to create and document and was only possible because the original creators of the commercial product released the source code for free use.

Well, I don't know much about coding, but if I'm not mistaken, the AI is there, it's just never been applied. Monsters can have 'patrol routes', and can lose sight of players and become inactive/resume the patrol route. You could make it so that the monster has several different kinds of patrols, a relaxed one would be simply walking back and forth with a small-ish cone of vision, and kinda looking at the ground a bit. Guarded would have their patrol route make them look side to side here and there, and generally keep their head up. Cautious, and they're constantly looking all around, turning, and reacting to much smaller sounds, like silenced fire. They could all basically have a shit-load of patrol routes that are chosen at random that make them look around in different patterns.

Well, the logical start would be alcoves, and making it so that you can hide against a wall and escape detection if the monster isn't on his toes, and if he is on his toes, maybe making it so that crouching down gives you a somewhat better chance of evading him.
The thing you have to keep in mind though is that this is still Doom, and you should accommodate to players who are just going to run and gun.
You should still make it alot more fun to be stealthy though.

I really think that DOOM's depiction of hell is the most intresting. I've seen people play modern PC games in faux-splitscreen, and I keep finding all these vague forum posts about a program called "sandboxie" that is supposed to somehow allow multiple active windows.

Does this method only work with certain games? (I have seen multi-window, 2-controller Borderlands 2 with my own eyes, and this was the method; I have read forum posts stating that Team Fortress 2 has worked, as well.) Or am I onto something?

the thing with shading is that if you shade the bottom of something, it appears to face away from the light source. as in, the surface looked like it was facing downwards. and to boot you had light reflecting off the top of the stomach as strongly as the light highlights as her chest, implying that surface is facing upwards towards the light source, meaning the stomach basically looked almost spherical.

the old sprite did that so it looked almost like she was preggo or something.
