This is the raddest retro game.

Comix Zone is pretty awesome, and needs a remake that makes it longer.

Please no. I don't want to see 2013 Sketch Turner.

Let him stay as 90's as can be.

How about a downloadable title that keeps it in a 90s atmosphere, but just adds more levels and moves?

I'd be down. It should include some of those "Sega Tunes: Comix Zone" tracks. Those were the tits.

The real question is: would they keep "losing health when punching boxes"?

good != rad, or least not always.
Sometimes it does, but not in the context of comparing something to the likes of Comix Zone.
It's like saying The Wire is rad, which on it's own is fine, but saying it's radder than say, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, just doesn't work.

I agree. Comix Zone breeds 90s comics in all of its post-apocalyptic Rob Liefeldish grimdark way. A remake would almost certainly adapt it to modern comics, which would suck some serious balls.

>Nah. That could be stripped without affecting the game.

Believe it or not, it couldn't. One thing most people never realized about Comix Zone is that it isn't a straight beat 'em up. It's also about 40% puzzle game. The game is filled with traps which are meant to be avoided by finding shortcuts, using items or just finding a way around 'em. You're meant to find solution for certain problems without expending health, otherwise you could just punch the shit out of everything.

This. Comix Zone has tons of puzzles, AND even more hidden stuff.

Like on Episode 1, page 2, right at the start you have to smash a steel door that takes down 1/5th of your health on the first panel. The solution? Let loose Roadkill, and he'll find a hidden bomb powerup for you, that you can use to blast the door without losing life.

There are tons of shit like that. You can the entire lava cave that way too, and find a shortcut to the Himalayan arena with 2 extra powerups.

Also, POWAH FLASH!

I played this game approximately one hojillion times. I think my best run was something like 14 minutes. I was continuously impressed by the sheer amount of secret passages and hidden power ups, and it encouraged me to keep trying out different weird things. I felt awesome when I found new ways to get around obstacles without punching through them and losing health, and when I found out that the ninjas screamed "EEK! A RAT!" when roadkill touched them, I laughed my head off.

It was one of my first tastes of tragic endings in games as well, if you didn't rescue your commander.. When I found out there was a "good" ending I was elated.

I suppose it's classified as a beat 'em up, but the combat was miles ahead of other brawlers in terms of not only complexity, but the weird and interesting ways you could use your environment and even other enemies.

This, I can fucking waltz through this game, the ONLY part that is risky is the question marks between the mines. I always get greedy and check, despite not needing items, end up getting an explodey one, which triggers the mines and fucking wrecks my shit instantly.

It's usually the only way I die in that game, BUT I GOTTA KNOW WHAT THE ITEM IS.

>> No.1133628

>>1133559
The last level can be impossible to beat depending on what items you get at that part. If you get shit items (not even explosions, just useless stuff like a knife), you'll run out of HP by the time you reach mortus.

>> No.1133874

>>1133628
The rat is enough to get through, no need to gamble on the random items. Go down from the first screen for a HP drink. Also, the useless knife can open the door to the boss without having to force it.

>> No.1134161

Not the best, but a damn great game. It's challenging but definitely not arcade level hard. I managed to one life it back then. The only thing I didn't like were some of the puzzles, that felt sort of forced in a sidescrolling beat'em up such as this.

I'd love to see a sequel with expanded movesets and deeper combo system.

>> No.1134187

>>1133874
Yeah, but, that's about the only use for the knife.

And you can't get past so many obstacles and enemies with only 1 health drop - especially if you are playing from the previous page, in which case your HP might be low at the start already.
