What’s the best Parodius game? Are they beginner friendly?

no one plays this coomer slop

>> No.11258558

Start with Da!
They're all worth playing though

>> No.11258612

The first one is the least complicated.

The first two (Da! and Gokujou) are my favorite, but unlike some other cute 'em ups they are actually pretty challenging. Better to start with something like Cotton 100%, Twinbee Deluxe Pack, or Harmful Park.

>> No.11258671

>>11258396
No lmao they're hard as shit, harder than Gradius really. Better off just starting with Gradius itself

If you have two players, you can just keep shoveling quarters and force your way through the narrative.

Why is explaining the gradius/parodius powerup system so hard?
In practice it's very simple and intuitive, but every time I listen to myself trying to explain it to a girlfriend I sound like a lunatic
>so you have this powerup highlighted right? First you want to get speed up but then you gotta jave laser! No, You can't select at will, you need to keep getting these small squares and wait for the selector to reach the laser! And then you want multiple too! Don't grab double, it's useless! Then you want the shield! Once you're fully upgraded with the right amount of speed, multiples, laser, missile and a shield, you want to keep the selector on the shield should you lose it, so you can instantly regain it so don't get any more of these orange squares!
They never understand shit, I feel they would learn it easier if I just shut up and let them experiment, as I learned, but they don't have enough patience.

You should give Da! a try
It's not an easy game though, so be patient and give it some time
Snes and pc engine versions are fine afaik, the psp collection is great too

I wish there's a way to restore the replaced tracks, it's not the same without That's the Way

>collecting powerups moves the powerup selector to the right
>pressing the powerup button confirms the selection
wow that was hard to explain

it's funny that the joke baby version of shoot em up is still harder than 99% of games.

Twinbee is the one that's actually intended for kids, Parodius is just "Gradius but wacky"

Forgot to recommend Star Parodier to OP as well

I knowwwww but I start sperging out about the strategy of it and I also feel like they don't understand, maybe I underestimate them

The slowdown is bad. The PS1 or Saturn ports are better.

You are making the mistake of trying to explain strategy along with the basic mechanics of the system. Anyone would be overloaded by this, because you're making it sound 100x more complicated than >>11258813
Rule of thumb for teaching anything: give them the rules, let them fuck up on their own, and offer guidance when you can tell they're missing something. Keep it simple. This goes for a lot of things besides shmups

I only played the NES version

Only gradius 1 is easier than parodius. Gadius 2 is on-par with something like da!, while 3 is just just pure bullshit in the arcades.

>> No.11261674

Da has 3 less stages in the pc engine version so its a bit easier just by being shorter

the only reason really to play PCE Da is the awesome caravan level. you can spend hours of practice trying to unlock the 3 secret bosses

The only really confusing part about Gradius powerups is that the game doesn't really indicate when you have to choose between two upgrades. Especially in games with multiple characters with different powerup lists, it's easy to accidentally buy a powerup then immediately buy another powerup that gets rid of the other one you just bought.
