Hello /vr/. I had the urge to play a good old fashioned RPG a few days ago, and stumbled upon this little gem.
I decided not to look into anything about the game once I started playing, so I know nothing about it and it's just like the good old days when I was a kid and couldn't just google something if I got stuck. It's an amazing feeling, not knowing every little detail of a game before playing.
Anyone else do this? Just, jump into a game without knowing anything? Share stories.

yeah dude I played ultima 4 before the internet existed

I hadn't gotten that same feeling of constantly finding cool stuff for months at a time until I played fallout 3, twenty years later.

I remember getting hints on how to beat indiana jones on the atari 2600, by talking to some friend of a friend etc over the phone, and that was an exciting and strange concept, to learn secret things this way

I didn't play a lot of popular games like Final Fantasy when I was younger but I have them on my shelf ready to be played when I have some time so soon I will be feeling that. How far are you into Lufia 2? It's my favourite RPG on any system by far simply because of the dungeon system with no random battles except on the overworld.

One of my favourite retro games for sure. I loved, along with Lufia 2, Terranigma, Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force 2, and Tales of Phantasia.

I heartily approve of you not looking up solutions to Lufia II's puzzles before charging forward. Good luck with the blocks in Percelyte Temple, the box puzzle in the lighthouse, and the plants in the volcano.

I will offer one piece of non-spoiler advice, however: Never use the Statue item (you can buy it at the casino) outside of battle. It causes an overflow glitch and can reset your game, even ruin your save data.

Oh fuck, those two were the hardest puzzles by far. I didn't even realize you could cut the plants by other means until failing like 30 times.

First off, Lufia II is an excellent game. I'm actually playing through the first one now, which has a neat intro (especially if you've already played II)

To continue, though, I miss those days when I could play a game without knowing what to do or where to go. The only issue is, I've come to rely on some things when things get difficult.

(Currently in Chrono Cross, had no idea how to access an area, went everywhere I could think of. Nearly quit until looking up solution. Still hate myself.)

But I'm trying to go through more games without relying on the vast Internet and its knowledge. I just lack the time I had as a child so I can't simply slam my head into the wall for hours until I figure it out, either. Well, I can, but not without growing incredibly frustrated.

I have NieR however, and know nothing about it save for the fact that it's somehow loosely connected to Drakkengard. It is on that notion alone that I am playing it... so we'll see how that goes.

i played this game with so much attention to never leave a puzzle behind.

once after i finished the game quite satisfied, i looked at gamefaqs and see the best walkthrough/guide available at that time. there was this one very meticulously detailed. i began comparing it to my game, assuring every puzzle i have solved and missed none.

...then i found out... that i solve more puzzle than that guide...
