What was the last GBA game you picked up in recent times that you had no prior nostalgic connection to, only to find out that the game is phenomenal? GBC is acceptable too I guess, if you could play it in a GBA then it counts.

There's a PlayStation version of this game that actually came out after the GBA version, interestingly. For me it's >>11149060 and >>11156574. M&M's Minis Madness is good too

Didn't know a thing about Kirby before picking it up. Just felt like playing a good platfomer and this title came up.

I always found it weird how his head becomes gigantic every time he runs out of dashes. I know it’s a way of letting the player know but still

Steven Gerrard's Total Soccer 2002... I really like football/soccer and this is one I had never heard of until I found out about it by chance, and while most people talking about it didn't have the best things to say, I went ahead and played it anyway, and I loved it! It's a fun blend of simulation and arcade, passing feels good, shooting feels good, the only thing I dislike is the defending I guess.

I just received Klonoa: Emipre of Dreams for my birthday recently. Fun platformer for the GBA. On world 3 currently.
I didn’t have a GBA growing up, but had some friends/family who had em. The only game I really played as a young kid was Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, but I started collecting GBA games around 2010 or so and now have 26.
Lots of fun games on the platform. I would say GBA and DS are tied for my favorite handheld libraries.

Love Nightmare in Dream Land. One of my favorite games on GBA, and a really solid remake of Kirby’s Adventure. Love the Meta Knightmare mode despite the version in this game being a bit jank.

Motoracer Advance.

I'm not a huge fan of racing games but if it has motorcycles in it I'll give anything a shot. And this one found very entertaining.

why are people posting the most popular games on gba and acting as if they're "hidden gems".

I might as well just post Wario Land 4 at this point since "omg I totally didn't know what this game was!!!!!"

Was also released for DS but seems to be identical with the second screen used to always display maps and such.

this is a thread for games you started playing from GBA platforms after the heyday, not games that you play out of nostalgia or because you knew them at the time of release but finds from the retro era. Reading comprehension

Well, since GBC counts, then I'll go for Spider-Man on GBC, it's a port of the more popular Spider-Man title we got in 2000 on PS1 and N64, of course it's completely different, even the story feels quite different, darker and moody, which I quite like, but the main difference that we have, besides it being 2D, is that it's an actual MetroidVania, and a good one for what it is.

I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I did, but I can't recommend it enough, mostly for those that believe Spider-Man can't be good in 2D, while 3D is best, this is an excellent effort.

it's a lot better than the fucking lazy super star ultra's permament sword ability mode with healing and clear screen moves. Nightmare in dreamland has proper new combos you cant get in normal kirby mode, I like it
But the Master Sword has to be the best version of "meta knight mode", even if it's not really called that, too bad you have to drop the sword every time you get hurt
