I want to be a Saturn believer so unbelievably bad you don't understand. I am one of the biggest Sega fanboys. I love the Genesis, I LOVE the Dreamcast, and I even love the Master System. I just cannot get behind the Saturn.

I genuinely see no value in it in the modern day. Its 90% outdated arcade ports that range from decent to dog shit. The rest of the games just arent good. Almost every multiplat from the time is just straight up better on Playstation, and the exclusives are weak. Nights into Dreams is a boring score attack game with only a few levels, Burning Rangers while impressive visually wastes all its effort by being a lame as hell fire fighter game, Clockwork Knight is meh, and then theres all the other random one offs like Super Tempo, Astal, etc etc that just are not good at all. Don't even get me started on Panzer Dragoon Saga, what a joke.

Ive tried it all bros, I even played a bunch of the Japanese games like Bulk Slash that Saturn fans think theyre epic as fuck for knowing about and its just so fucking basic. Where are the real, genuine, honest-to-god good ass games on this thing? The ONLY game I have gotten any real enjoyment out of is Panzer 2, that one was great and a lot better than the original.

Im being 100% serious, sell me on the Saturn, I want to see what the fans see.

It's mainly just shmups. Radiant Silvergun is good and the hype is real so if you have to play one then play that. Non-shmup games I'd recommend:
>Cold Fear
>Keio Flying Squadron 2
>Powerslave
>Sega Rally Championship (not really the best version of the game but it's the only version with splitscreen)
>Linkle Liver Story (might bore you personally, but at least it has nice additive blending)
>Princess Crown
>Guardian Heroes
>Crows: The Battle Action
>Assault Suit Leynos II
>Digital Pinball Necronomicon

I feel the same way as you. I even bought a saturn and put in a fenrir ode, loaded up a micro sd with a ton of the most praised games. When I finally sat down to play them I was incredibly disappointed. I sold the saturn about a month later at a moderate profit. Imho don't bother with the saturn.

No, thanks. Even if we ignore that Saturn is the god of human sacrifice, the planet itself is a shitty attempt at being Jupiter - Saturn, despite having a large volume, is much less heavy and dense than Jupiter. Like a typical homosexual, it has not just a single ring (like a normal, married man) but has many more rings, wearing them out of feminine vanity. Unsurprisingly, the moons it has (Titan) are more interesting and cool than this shitty, puffy, twice failed attempt at both being a star and a Jupiter-type planet. No wonder it was delegated far from the Sun, as it couldn't watch one of its children being so gay.

Fuck Saturn.

If you buy a Saturn, bald women will want to have sex with you. All of them, obsessed. You probably don't even know of any bald women right now, but once you own the Saturn, they just find you. They'll be crawling over each other to get to you.

The Saturn's aura is not for the uninitiated. Only those who have traversed the realms of the 90s, bearing witness to its majesty, can truly comprehend its essence. The hum of its hummingbird processor, the glow of its translucent blue case, the whispers of its cult classic games - all these are mere echoes to the unenlightened.
Do not be dismayed, dear non-initiates, for you cannot grasp the intricacies of this mystical console. Its secrets are hidden in the symbolism of Panzer Dragoon's crimson skies, the cryptic codes of NiGHTS into Dreams', and the twisted geometry of Albert Odyssey. It is a realm for those who have passed through the trials of 3D graphics and emerged scarred, yet wiser.
Rest assured, your ignorance is not a failing. The Saturn's mysteries are reserved for those who have earned their stripes in the trenches of Bit Generations and Virtua Fighter. You may not understand, but know that it is a privilege reserved for the initiated few.

This is exactly what happened to me except I spent even more money and went for the Satiator. Still have a fullset on my PC since emulation for it has pretty much been perfected on retroarch. I keep loading up random games and just don't end up enjoying anything. Meanwhile I can load up random shit on the insanely massive PS1 fullset and almost always find something interesting and have a good time.

Its not fair I want to love it but cant no matter how hard I try. I genuinely think the 3DO is a better system.

saturn is good with a fairly good library, it's just dwarfed by n64 and ps1
if you want some good games that are console original, feel free to buy it, i love mine after all, but it's library is just limited to what the other two have to offer
that being said if radiant silvergun and guardian heroes were on ps1, i wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole

saturn has more and better games than the 64, which has basically none. Especially if your angle is "I can just emulate it" in which case you can just play the ports.

You had to be alive in '95 to understand that Saturn hype was real and if you had one everybody was jealous. Most of us kept holding out for the N64 and the PS1 didn't start gaining ground until the holiday season of '96. It's impossible to recreate that "summer of '95 Saturn" feeling without a time machine.

Saturn ports are often arcade perfect with extra content exclusive to that version. X-Men VS Street Fighter is a must own for any Saturn owner. Vampire Saviour is also every based. Street fighter Alpha 3 is the best fighter on the system but very expensive. It was released when the Dreamcast was already out and yet the Saturn version is usually preferred to the Dreamcast or Arcade version.

Don't reduce it to a nostalgia box. I was born after its discontinuation and yet it's my favourite system that is 80% of what I play. It's literally just comes down to the Saturn being the peak of 2D Arcade Gaming. Nights into dreams and Sega Rally are also really comfy 90s experiences.

It's the best 2D graphics ever looked and played. SNES is often claimed to be better and while I do admit it gives the Saturn a fair fight I only think it defeats Saturn in the category of platformers. I used to be a crazy SNES person but now I only really go back to it to play some Super Metroid or Megaman X1-3. When it comes to puzzle games, Fighters, Shmups and racing games the Saturn games are more fluid, have more content and more colourful/beautiful graphics.

>be alive in '95

yeah, that definitely helps. we briefly had a saturn when it had just came out until one of my younger siblings broke it. we played the hell out of it while we had it though, and i was blown away by it at the time since i had only ever played SNES before. everything about it was awesome back then, the way it looked, the startup screen/menu screen, graphics, music. Sega always had that different vibe from Nintendo/Sony.

we had Bug Too!, Darius Gaiden, Solar Eclipse, Clockwork Knight, Daytona USA, and Sega Rally. aside from that saturn we briefly owned, i never played or saw another saturn until i bought my own many years later. so i think a lot of people like it because it was a cool console they knew of at the time but not many got to try it.

i still enjoy those games today though when i play them, but i really like all consoles each for their own reasons.

There's a lot of good games in that list but one I'd recommend against playing on Saturn is FEDA. The Saturn port added voice acting and extra visuals at the cost of frequent load times. As much as I like voice acting, the loading was pretty annoying. You're probably better off playing the Super Famicom original.
