The power level between them and everyone else is massive (with Alyssa being the only one who could maybe have a chance against them, but only in her magical girl form). Miku is effectively just an ordinary diminutive Japanese school girl with a camera.

I'd say Aya because her magic is more versatile than Koudelka's (she has a shield, for example) and she also has a rocket launcher and a P90 for if the magic battle gets boring. Koudelka is from the 19th century so wouldn't expect such advanced firearms.

James Sunderland is really the only fella protag who kinda makes you feel the same just since he's mopey/clearly has issues on top of his current situation that make him not able to handle it properly. Other guy protags like harry, chris Redfield, and that one nigga from alone in the dark I'm forgetting the name of all seem to have their head on their shoulders enough that they just seem like their going through the motions. And james is a special case where hes silently kinda losing it, compared to if you put a wimpier character ljke otacon in the same situstion where hed constantly be telling youanout how he cant handlenit, instead of it just being sorta implied. Always found it more interesting when the guy character your playing as is the horror, like in manhunt and thief. Makes it go from "how's this scary, I can just kill everyone here" to actively having to plan each gruesome play out, gets your mind in a subtle spooky mood ya know. Wish we got some vincent price/peter Lorre kinda characters for a game like those but eh. Probably wouldn't sell as well as a cute girl in a skin tight bodysuit with a gun anyways, not that I'll complain about those.

This has always been the weakest defense of female character selection IMO. I never had a problem with it. I often (not always) pick a female option when I can create my own character, not because I care about staring at anyone's ass either way, but because it's just INTERESTING, in some fantasy contexts. It works when it's a sword'n'sorcery or high tech science fiction game. Less so in a modern-day shooter. I've never been bothered by it either way. It's only really in the modern era that the nuance has changed, now the big western studios do female characters constantly for YASSKWEEN woke reasons, and all the indie studios do it for LOOK AT ME LADIES HEH I'M ONE OF THE GOOD ONES, ISN'T MY FEMALE MEGAMANVANIA CLONE SO UNIQUE?, it's just gotten tiresome. When I roll a female character in a game, they feel less like fapbait and more like a character I'm writing into an imagined story. They're daughterfus, not waifus.
