He has a bit of love-him-or-hate-him doesn't he. I think he put most effort into gameplay rather than looks. LIke his favourite map is E2M9 because he was proud of designing it aruond the idea of monster fighting (which was new at the time) but most people look at it now and think it's just two rooms with no detail and monster infighting is nothing that new or exciting.

I think it's a really great map but the path to the exit is based on ledge walking which is annoying and shitty, and that's what most people remember so it has a bad reputation.

I love giant caverns with high ceilings and I love maps that reward exploration. There's tons of stuff in that map that you will miss if you try to stay out of the slime. You find all sorts of weird nooks and crannies and places off the beaten track if you take the time to explore the level.

So yeah I could totally do without all the ledge walking but the rest of the map is great.

I don't know what I think the worst map would be. Bloodfalls maybe. It wasn't actually bad but was always kind of unsatisfying somehow.

MAP05 seems to be about where the difficulty picks up. The earlier maps teaches you to be careful by giving you somewhat easier fights, but having the only health pickups be Pepsi bottle trails. Around here is where they start throwing tough shit at you and give out proper medikits.

Hey guys, I'm trying to host Reelism through GZDOOM, and I'm having trouble. I can't seem to get my command line to launch right into a game, and the issue seems to stem from not knowing the level values to use with the warp command.

After look at how hexen handles swinging doors, I noticed a trick the map makers used was to lower the ceiling to encompass the entire movement angle of the door to hide its length. This is such a great idea. It's neat learning some of the tricks they used to get around technical limitations. Seems like a lost art.

His initial doomkart modification, while dull due to speed and a single test map, was well done with a twist of comedy in the end beta; and his newer works are well done and imaginative when they are not truetroll fonts. Forgive my primitive explanation, but try this

Set the aura monster to give a special dummy item every now and then during his See.

Set the other monsters to do constant checks on that dummy item. If they receive it, then make 'em switch to another state where their attacks are stronger, defense increases, etc.

I loved the fuck out of NOLF. I was telling another anon the other day it was the first game I ever modded. I learned map making and skinning with that game, and it was the first time I ever used photoshop. A lot of good memories with that one. I think unnecessary stealth ought to be avoided in a Doom game. The action should be intact, but still have loads of atmosphere with a few quiet moments of exploration. As to the setting, it'd be cool if it was indeterminate. Like Kingpin, for example. On the surface it looks like 1930's, but it's full of weird anachronisms.

That's a pretty good question. The main reason why I don't like Doom 3 BFG is because it takes two steps forward and three steps back in regards to Doom 3. Yeah, it gives you more ammo for all of your weapons than its original incarnation did. But that really just keeps you using the same weapon over and over and over. Yeah, you get a flashlight. But the flashlight is chest-mounted at a weird angle with a twenty second battery and it recharges when it's off. These new changes don't make the game better, they make it a wee bit easier but at the same time more obtuse to play.

It's like if the devs asked a genie to make a rerelease for Doom 3 and the genie was kind of a prick and granted their wish with a twist.
