Of course you should master the original, vanilla game first but after that there's literally nothing wrong with playing mods. The reason why the Doom community is still so active over 30 years later is because of mods, and Source games wouldn't be the same without mods either
Also, there's this weird thing in the vidya community where people refuse to play mods literally just because they're unofficial. They could be the exact same but with a Nintendo official seal slapped on it and suddenly it would be ok to play them. It's weird how people put how official something is above how fun it is

Op here i played it vanilla like 30 times and got a A ranking. No first aid, saves or dying, (Arcade style) and now i just welcome anything new

re2's classic rebirth patch allows you to unlock the hard/nightmare mode immediately from the get go if you want

I have a disc of it I bought a long time ago. The game is broken, unfinished. There is basically no enemy AI and sounds are broken. It could have been good, turning the game into a proper FPS in which you can move and shoot at the same time, but it's just not worth anyone's time in the state that it is.
