My favorite-looking console is the N64. Why? I just think it looks nice. It's not trying too hard to be flashy or futuristic. It doesn't look too simple or shabby either. It's just right.

Nah, the Genesis definitely comes across as more trashy.
The tasteful Mega Drive branding at the bottom right looks far more refined than that shit on the Genesis. Looks like the kind of logo you'd see on the packaging of a toyline designed to catch an adolescent boy's eye.
The lack of extra detailing around the power switch and reset button makes the Genesis look like a knockoff where they haven't got all the details right.
Then there's the single, small dark red panel which looks like a cheap car with a mismatched door. Also a garbage choice to have a red LED on a red panel, and with black text that gets muted. On the PAL model 1 you've got great contrast between the black shell and the consistent white of the LED panel, branding, and other text details, plus the white panel really make the LED pop.
The different red panels on the Master System worked really well because they took up a good chunk of the console's top face and the details stood out, but it just doesn't work on the Genesis.

Agree with this, although I am an Aussie with the Euro MD, I have always hated the big 'GENESIS' plastered on the thing. Plus maybe it's just cos I come from a land that's no so under the thumb of the church, but I always thought that the name Gensis was lame and Mega Drive sounded way cooler - especially as a kid where everything was Super, Hyper, Mega etc.
