I have never beat Mega Man 1.
The version I have removed the pause glitch.
I need to know how to beat the Yellow fucking Devil

use lightning bzzzt!!

>> No.1089839

Just figure out the block patterns and it really isn't that difficult -- it just takes significantly longer than the pause glitch.

Man up. It's not that hard. He does the exact same things in the exact same order every time you fight.

That's the only version of MM I've ever played, and I beat it.
Yes, it was a pain in the ass, but I did it. Just beef up.

>> No.1089857

i don't know, maybe you could try jumping over the pieces of his body when they fly at you instead of standing there getting hit by them

it might help

>> No.1089863

Watch youtube vids of the fight. It is hard man.

>>1089829

A retro thread died because you coulodn't use the catalog

Memorize the pattern. It's not that hard and it's not like you have to restart the entire game if you fail, unlike Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden

No, this is hard man.

Hah.

Just keep it up. Learn the pattern, and it's easy.

This. When you learn the patterns, Yellow Devil stops being difficult, but it's still pretty tedious. The fight takes over 2 minutes, which is an eternity for a Mega Man boss that has only one form. There's probably other bosses that last as long, but it feels like it lasts much longer because of how rarely you can damage him.

>> No.1090127

There's like one jump near the end of the pattern where you need to do a long jump over two low blocks, that's what usually throws people off because they try to do two quick jumps over each one and fuck it up.

>> No.1090137

The pattern for his attack is the same every time, and if you time it right, you can hit him with three lightning shots after every attack so it doesn't take a terribly long time to beat him.

Also, I don't know if its the same for the version that you are playing, but in the cube version of the collection, but the pause trick still worked if you opened the power select menu instead of using the pause button (doesn't work as well, but you should still get him down by more than 1/2 in one shot)

Fuck gaymers' cred, I'd use savestates for that shit.

>> No.1092224

OP, try to pause with every button. I have MM1 on GC, and I think pause was set to some stupid button like Z.
If that doesn't work, just memorize the pattern.

It's always better to save-state for those games at first to experience them at least once, and then you git gud and try to reach the end properly.

So satisfying.

Timing the shot mid-jump can be tricky, you'll get a feel for it, but the rest is just pattern memorization. Everything past Willy-1 is pretty painless. Everyone puts MM1 up there with MM9 in terms of difficulty but I've blown through every game in the classic sans MM8 (no motivation to finish, I just hated it) and thought MM3 (my favoirite in the classic series with 5, 2 and 9 behind it) was the worst in terms of difficulty spikes.

I owned this for the Xbox. The manual said you could only save one game at a time, but for some reason mine save as many as I wanted at one time.

>> No.1092695

some blocks you dont jump
some you do at varrying heights

standing far away from gives you more time to react
standing close makes your projectiles have less travel time resulting in more bullets on screen for more dps

the rest is just reaction time

Arrf!! I want one!!

Little children have been beating the yellow devil without the pause glitch for decades.

You should feel ashamed of yourself, OP.

Just ignore the top two rows. Jump over the bottom two rows.
That's it.

Execution is always hard in MM. Almost every boss in the series has staggeringly simple patterns. It's the execution that's tough
