Playing through PSO Infinity for the first time and Emilia is now my favourite character in the franchise. It actually hurts knowing Sega speedran this franchise into the ground with PSO2/NGS.

I'll probably play a game called "change a billion settings, setup 40 different emulators, download 300 roms, customize a good theme for a decent frontend". It's probably going to take a while to complete it but I'm sure it's going to be fun.

But seriously, there's a bunch of stuff I'd like to play on handheld.
I have yet to try Metroid Dread, pretty sure it runs on this thing. I'm also curious about the Super Metroid GBA Edition hack.
Dragon's Crown is another game I always wanted to try.
I want to give Snatcher and Policenauts a shot, not sure how/what version but I guess I'll find a way to make them run.
Then I'd like to play a heavily modded version of vanilla Doom, again not sure how but I wonder how much shit is it possible to add/change on Android.

Seems like a pain in the ass compared to Daijisho.

If I understood correctly, ES-DE requires me to
>make a patreon account
>pay for a month at the very least
>download the app
>create a billion folders on my SD
>move all all my games to their new folders
>bind each and every emulator to their new game folders
>bind each platform to its emulator? hell I hope it does this by itself at least
>let it scrape assets for hours even
>look for workarounds to make it your default launcher and use non-games app

I honestly don't think a video preview and a fancier interface is worth the effort, the alternative looks nice already.
Hell most EmulationStation themes don't even look that good.

This may have been a valid argument like, five years ago, but the truth of the matter is that your average new, decently made handheld (not the rs36 game console shit some people here shill) will probably be more solid than your average Gameboy, GBA, DS, or psp that's been used for over twenty years.

If I go and buy myself a Retroid, I know that it's gonna be a new device, that I'll have a warranty and customer service, that I'll most likely be getting exactly what I expect based on reviews. If I go on eBay and get a DS, it's a gamble. Maybe one of the shoulders feels weird, maybe some of the clickiness on the buttons are gone, maybe the hinge is weak.

At the end of the day, as unfortunate as it is, original hardware is becoming a less and less reliable way to play old handheld games, and it's an overall good thing that new devices are being made that can take their places

You can buy three r36s for the price of a cheap used ds lite and still get a better experience out of it for 90% of ds games you don't need the touch screen anyway. And excluding ds which isn't even retro, every other console is more enjoyable there than in a ds. Let alone portmaster or streaming.

Is not just the materials or the screen or the additional buttons. The software is simply unparalleled to anything the DS can offer.
And this is the bare minimum you can get nowadays.

The anti chinkhelds are so out of touch is incredible. We don't care about your nostalgia googles. It's been 20 fucking years.

to be honest, most games in the DS library don't really use both screens, one of them almost always ends up feeling more like an afterthought and you barely look at it/interact with it.
So it's pretty nice that you can resize them accordingly, make the main screen bigger and increase internal resolution it the game has 3D assets.

On the other hand, there are games where you indeed use both screens and you never touch the buttons as they're entirely played through the touchpad; for such games you can always use the device vertically if you can't stand having both screens side by side.

Good evening lads
Hope you’re having a wonderful day.

I’ve got this conundrum where I have a ps4 pro, Mac with openemu, vita, DSi, n3ds, n2dsxl, genesis mini, snes mini, wii
(Used to have a steam deck which I got rid of)

but i cannot stand playing games that were not “meant” for their original hardware, pr lor related hardware
I can only play psp games on vita, nes games on my snes mini, etc
One issue that I have, is that my tism blocks me from fully enjoying my GBA games on my DS systems because of the black screen below - and I haven’t seen anything related to a fix for that

What’s a reliable system I can get for GBA games only?
I’ve been looking at the new Anbernic 35XX Plus, especially because of the advertised 8 hour battery life, but the 4:3 screen is of concern to me. 3:2 screen would be preferable to avoid black borders.
Any way to mitigate that? Maybe it’s not that noticeable when actually playing?

While I’m here, how do I mitigate this kind of tism when it comes to the n64? I’d love to avoid paying for 2 Wii classic controllers or 2 GameCube controllers.
I feel like I just have to bite the bullet and install retro arch on my ps4

I’d also get a ps classic for ps games if it wasn’t for the controllers that it comes with.

Cheers lads

>What’s a reliable system I can get for GBA games only?
It's my time to shill the TrimUI Smart Pro! With an almost 5" 16:9 screen like the vita GBA will be between 3.9 > 4.4" scaled without too much wasted space. Good ergonomics, a beeg enough battery. Big enough but not too big, think of it as something akin to playing DS games on a DSi XL vs a standard DS/DSL
>3:2 screen would be preferable to avoid black borders.
However same as the other letterboxing anons who have crippling autism about letterboxing, you'll always have to compromise.
Best bet will be searching the device lists to see if a 3:2 screen exists and then going for that.

Your mental block on systems on systems is on you though.
I've been using a PC at home to emulate for years and so long as the content is scaled appropriately had no issues with which controller or logo is around me.

Also since I still have the tab open and didn't want to refer to my excel sheet. Have this from Inman's site to demonstrate the scaling.
If you need an idea of the size, scale it so that it would meet the same dimensions on screen or via prinout and slap it on top of a GBA or something.

People complain about the dpad but that can be kinda fixed if you don't mind opening, otherwise just the CPU is 3326. Back buttons are a bit stiff/loud but again mods. If you're going from 3.5 to 3.5" vertislop at a similar level though, you should get it to fuel your need to consooom.

The R36S is low budget and the lowest quality people are willing to deal with. Its issues with the d-pad are no greater than the issues with the RG35XX d-pad, same fix, and while doing it the minor issue with the X and A buttons or the Y and B buttons being connected can be simply fixed by cutting the curved link between them. These are both extremely minor however, the only real issue with the build are the shoulder buttons. All four shoulder buttons are awful, the worst in the industry. They WORK, but they're so stiff and uncomfortable.

Emulation-wise it's better than the RG35XX in every way and can emulate more systems the RG35XX can't even touch, like PSP, DreamCast, and N64. Even the Pi port of Super Mario 64 can't run on the RG35XX, but you can play the original Super Mario 64 rom on the N64 emulator with the R36S.

I too thought I preferred bezels once. Then I realized that each time the screen went black during a map transition or whatever, the content would go black, but the bezels would just stay there, sticking out like a sore thumb. So then you’d have the black physical bezel, followed by the colored digital bezel, followed by the black in-game screen. I now prefer bezels off, if only because the WHOLE screen turns black each time the game does, which is more times than you think.

I check in on this thread every few months now ever since I got my Galileo G8.

2 gamesir x2 bluetooths for the LG LTE premier pro I use. (Up to snes basically)

1 Galileo G8 with my LG stylo 5.

The X2 controller has lasted me 3 years so far and still works great.
Got the G8 around christmas and I always compare it to the sturdiness of an xbox conroller. Love it and gonna buy another.

I probably burned through 150$ on what couldn't be returned in my trial and error with other controllers. Hindsight being 20/20 but that's how it is with niche products.

About 1/4th of the way though persona 1. Love the game but to me it's biggest downfall is a lack of quality fusions that can be made. You're tied down to a very few choices per character but with the complexity of he fusion system you think thwy would have put more reward into it for the effort.
Also started up golden sun for gba some time ago and it's pretty cool; I get the hype now.

Somewhere down the road I will need something stronger than my current devices if I want to play gc/ps2 mobile at which point if I were to go with a handheld; I think it'd be the rp4 with 8gb ram. Alteratively; perhaps I'll get lucky and find a solid flagship phone for cheap.

What's the point of Retroid Pocket 4 Pro? It's $265 USD after shipping and taxes here in Europe, and that's getting very close to the used 64GB Steam Deck territory. In my mind smaller devices should also be cheaper than bigger devices because they need less materials to manufacture and use cheaper ARM chips. It doesn't make sense to pay this much for something that totally locks me out of PC games and some systems where only x86 emulators exist like Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3 and WiiU just because I can put it inside my pocket.

>> No.10840531

Unironically?
Capitalism's best friend, corporatism, shareholders, bloat & IP.
"The big three" (I'm going to include MS here) don't release frequent devices and stick to 2-3 devices within a generation because it's deemed to create confusion within users and dilute the brand.
Then there's the concept of having R&D and QA (LOL) focus on just one or two devices they can keep things focused and reduce the risks of their platforms being cracked open and subsequently reduce costs. Fewer revisions means they can produce in bulk, set up lucrative contracts with partners to source parts and squeeze every penny out.
The switch, PSP and DS have all had issues with piracy but also with original and refresh devices hosting unique hardware issues and to shareholders that risk and a bad product showing through or damaging the brand isn't deemed to be worth it.

Anbernic and powkiddy etc can release a couple of handhelds a year if they want because they don't need to support a platform where you buy games or worry if sleep mode is broken or there's charging & battery issues.
The smaller size benefits them because they aren't subject to corporate bloat. If a bad model releases and the next one mogs the competition it will in time be forgotten. If something catastrophically bad were to tank their rep they can rebrand to patch it over.
The worst thing they could have happen is someone copies their devices but that's expected and the sales lifespan of them is so short that it doesn't matter if someone rips off their device so long as they fill different niches.

My battery & charging issues continue with the RGB30 on jelos. Anyone experienced similar or use arkos?
>First arrived at 0% but turned on
>charged to 100
>dropped to 30 to charge to 80
>dropped to instantly to 0% after a 40% charge
>charge back to 100

>still charges to 33% and then stalls
>unplug & leave it overnight
>won't progress past 30% after 20 mins charging with screen off
>teardown to remove battery
>now reads 87%
So I've read that fixes it but I want to avoid the battery discharging again, is this an issue with jelos specifically.
It's charging past 87% for now and I'll pull it at 99 or so but these battery issues are killing an otherwise great experience.

You get to blame the USB standard fragmentation in this case.
Here's where you can point to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Power and its subpage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware#Power
These devices have a simple implementation. There's multiple seethe articles and videos crying about this overall and not just in the chink handheld community. We're talking more than cables, we're talking wholesale chargers not being compatible. It's a problem on both ends.
I have a tablet that supports 18W and 22w~ charging modes but because it's a substandard (HSC) I can only use specific chargers if I want to suck more than 18W out. Even Apple are guilty of it.

Really chink devices are no different but you can fool them with a simple USB A to C adapter like, well anything. The standard is absolutely fucked. Nevermind what >>10842392 says buy yourself a pack of like 5 or 10 USB A (M) to USB C (F) adapters and live the dream.

NTA but I have my whole house except my bathroom light sealed with suitable draught covers on the doors. Trash bags are shit tier for covering as are sheets. Tin foil and reflective foil are good for a first point covering, followed by something solid like light wood shutters/ custom foam cutouts (again with foil).

That said, I'm almost completely nocturnal and it was done with a secondary purpose. At the time I was using my kitchen as a darkroom but wanted to open up to using larger areas for printing and required more room for throw distance and prints. Winter wasn't so bad but summer time printing was an issue, having most of the house allowed heat to circulate better too which was a nice bonus.
It required more than this lazy effort since I also had to tape over LEDs and have good workplace practices to ensure there was no light bleed.

Genuine answer, because all you do is tell people how many things you have without ever actually contributing the the conversation. You can't even help it, when >>10842709 asked you how you get through the door, you responded by telling them about your pedalboards and didnt even answer how you get through the door.

You just post pics of your handhelds with no context, just letting people know you have them, and the only time you talk about what you're playing is when you say you're grinding for shiny pokemon, so just another "collect things to show off".

Ah yes, I LOVE having to tear down my brand-new handheld and attach electric tape to the D-pad and cut all of the face buttons so they don’t all press down simultaneously every single time.

In terms of price to performance, the R36S may have the edge. But in terms of price to build quality, Miyoo is still unmatched. And anything that can’t play SNES or GBA doesn’t even deserve the honor of the title “chinkheld”. They’re on par with Tiger Electronics “handhelds”; so poor and pathetic in power that they are “handhelds”, in the same way that chimps are “people”. In that sense, the SF2000 and V90 are more like Neanderthals, or Homo erectus. Closer to people than chimps, but still not people worthy of human rights and respect.

R35S, R36S, and R33S have a similar issue. It's due to the shit adhesive used to hold the outer bezzle in place, which is the only thing holding the screen in place, so playing any titles that makes the unit warm up at all slowly dissolves and weakens the adhesive holding it together. But it happens tenfold more with the Miyoo Mini Plus than the Game Consoie handhelds.

The only other experience I can think of was the Spawn cartoon series, but to be honest, despite being a fan of Gargoyles and Spawn I didn't specifically know the actor's name, but I did know the name by the time he was announced as the VA for the Arbiter. The only other piece of media I can think of prior to Halo 2 that he was in was Requiem for a Dream but I didn't see that movie until like a decade after Halo 2 came out. Reset buttons should be on the side of the handheld, so you’ll never press it by accident. Did anyone manage to get SoulCalibur III to run decent on Retroid Pocket 3+ or 2S? SoulCalibur I on ReDream and SoulCalibur II on Dolphin run decent, maintaining 60 FPS in the case of former and 50 FPS in the case of latter. But this game runs awful on NetherSX. It falls to 25 FPS when it has to actually render two character models on the screen (where it should be 60 or at least 50). And it becomes ever worse when one of those characters starts to hit the other, the framerate dips as low as 15 FPS. This happens consistently, no matter how far I underclock the emulated CPU and even with x0.5 resolution scaling on both Vulkan and OpenGL, which is extremely weird to me.

My Retroid has a video out, too. It cost me $10 to get a plug that lets me output to my TV in 1080p

How much did your video out cost?

Honestly, I know "Anbernic released ANOTHER one?" is a bit of a meme now, but as long as it stays around the same price as the old rg35xx I think it'd be a great mini console for throwing in your pocket and playing 8/16 bit games on

I know we're only approaching the end of the first quarter of the year but this has potential to be one of the worst AI designs of 2024.
I'm sure other monstrosities will leave their unique marks but those buttons are a very strong offering. It's either the worst AI design so far or the most ingenious upcycle implementation of a bulk purchase of old volume rocker buttons ever.
Actually kinda impressive.

i'm back

I had a look around, and I can't find anything reliable that's 3:2, and also larger than 3.5 inches

I feel like for now, I'm going to stick to using my 2dsxl for GBA emulation using mgba, especially since there's no actual issues regarding the emulator, as it can handle the audio and save states just fine with no stuttering. Started FE7 and i'm having a good time. The black collums on the sides are small and I can cope.

The lower screen being black/empty still really fucks with me though. Is there any way at all to fill it up somehow with anything?

>>10839296
yeah man just found that out yesterday the hard way. Sucked ass. I'd get the ps classic because I want to play ps1 games on an actual home console in the sony family of games, but the fact that the controllers it comes with are d-pad only is unnaceptable for that price. Guess it'll be mac openemu for a while for me, as much as I hate it. PS1 games on vita don't feel great to me because of the aspect ratio and screen size.

The top screens on the 3DS are 15:9, super close to 16:9 which is standard widescreen. If the 2DS bars don't bother you then just get a widescreen device

>In that sense, the SF2000 and V90 are more like Neanderthals, or Homo erectus. Closer to people than chimps, but still not people worthy of human rights and respect.
Yeah, that may be right
But still, I am a happy owner of both a RG35XX-H and an SF2000
The ergonomics on the RG35XX-H are raping my hands
On the SF2000, it almost feels like making love to a (kinda) beautiful woman.
The device is cheap enough that I can casually do mechanic fixes and build stuff with it in my pocket. When I want to have a break, I drink some water and resume my save state.
It may be like a Neanderthal. Yes, it is correct. Do you know that they didn't go extinct, but they mixed with Homo Sapiens?
Anyway, wouldn't it feel good to be a strong Neanderthal, and go around in the forest? Smacking those lions in the head with a mace? Having elephant BBQ with all the boys in the tribe?
Or, making love with a beautiful Neanderthal woman? Wouldn't you? Strong hips, long hair, and can you imagine the smell?
That's what an SF2000 can be like, if you're not too picky.

I want one but I'm not buying one from Aliexpress. Anon, you really gotta learn what few sellers officially sell through Ali. I've bought from CCC Electronics Store three times in the past, but it was for Famiclones on massive discount. They are a retailer selling these at a massive price increase, specifically to make Chinese products more readily shippable to South Asian and South American countries like Brazil or Portugal.
The ones directly from the dude making them cost about $350. And being a novelty for me, $350 is too much unless I suddenly inherit thousands of dollars and wanna spend a little.

It pains me that the SF-2000 is the single most comfortable form-factor handheld device I have ever used in my life, but it can only do up to SNES and GBA. Just give it a second stick and an Allwinner H700, charge $60 for it, and it will be the best handheld objectively in the sub $100 price range.
