I really enjoyed both Super Castlevania and Dracula X Chronicles recently - Any other similar games on the console? I.e Action games with tight level design and tough challenge. Already played Contra 3.

i really liked the firemen game but then i found out you aren't supposed to mention it here because it's one of those things that used to be obscure but now is super popular.

but that being said, the firemen is great.

If you haven't already checked it out, Super Back to the Future Part II is surprisingly good for a licensed tie-in game from the 90s. It was a Jap exclusive though, so just make sure you get the translation patch.

Basically Japan version is easy difficulty, EU version Normal difficulty (but 50hz crap so belongs in the trash), American version is hard difficutly

but each version has difficutly settings on top of that. Hardest in Japanese version doesn't even match Normal in US version.

there's a lot of shovelware (and by that I mean a lot) and slow plodding stuff that feels more like a PC game

I feel like Ganbare! Daiku no Gensan (Hammerin' Harry) for SFC is truly a hidden gem, never heard anyone talk about this. The game is really well made and the graphics are superb. A solid action platformer.
