I felt smart the first time I realized you could hop on top of that jumping ninja star guy then boost up on to the platform above using the charge jump when hes at the peak of his own jump to bypass the mask/key section. i had this amazing snes game which had four of the mario games in one for snes. i never really realized that super mario bros 2 was originally on the NES because i rarely ever played NES.
